follow in her footsteps and eat 1/2-1 t of coconut oil a day. I decided to take it on an empty stomach and not mix it with raisins and shredded coconut as I usu did.

In 2 days I have lost TWO POUNDS! I have changed NOTHING else.

See, here is where more is NOT better comes in. I was taking 3-4T. I thought if a little coconut oil burns a little fat, then more should burn MORE fat, but it never worked for me. I couldn't figure it out. :p

So now I take it first thing in the morning and wait an hour or two to eat. Everything else is exactly the same.

(After I hit my goal weight I gained 7 pounds in a WEEK!-just by not coming off my fast slowly and letting my body adjust-no binging or SAD food involved, just poor fast management. so now i am only 3 lbs away from my goal weight again.)

Hmmm, I find this topic very interesting! I think I will do the same and see how it goes.
Just today I decided to do coconut water and meat in my smoothies as well, because when I first started that's what I did and it was very energizxing. I have actually felt pretty good all day, not a very big afternoon lull like usual.

Where do you get the coconut oil? Is it raw, or cold pressed? I was just trying to find this kind of thread last night.

Thanks, Z!!

Some researchers in America did the same thing with peanut butter a few years back. It is suspected that it works because the small amount of fat you are eating satisfies a lot of the hunger you would have already had, but the small dosage of oil/peanut butter is not enough calories to add significantly to your daily intake.

right now I am using Nature's Way EfaGold Organic Pure Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

huh. I thought it was cold pressed? Maybe that's the unopened one I have on the shelf?

nope. just checked. Is there such a thing as cold pressed coconut oil?

Nutiva makes an unrefined coconut oil which is raw.

Thanks for the brand name!

So.. the experiment starts with 1/2 to 1 t. first thing a.m. Will let you know how it goes here.

Hope Starfire looks in on us. Would like to know her measurement too.

Have a great end of April, my raw friends!

okay... ya'll are toooo funny!!!

1/2 teaspoon... and it does work!!! I started taking it again while on the MC... my weight loss had stalled and my skin was feeling sooo dry -- so I started taking my 1/2 teaspoon again... Saturday night...

by this morning - I had lost 3 pounds... well... more like 2.85 pounds or something like that!

okay now you want my MEASUREMENTS??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/blush-4.gif

i have no clue what they are! seriously -- I haven't allowed a tape measure anywhere near my bat arms in over 5 years!

okay... let's see .... can I 'guess-ta'mate?'

I would say my bust is about ..hmmm... well - I wear a 36D
my waist - (which I thankfully found a couple of days ago - lol!)... probably about uhhh....

okay ... I must really love you guys - I just went and measured myself... I can't believe I'm saying this outloud ... in CYBER SPACE NO LESS.... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/faint-1.gif ...

now bare with me here cuz I used one of those metal tape measure things - that's all they have here in the shop at work!!! the crew now thinks I'm certifiably insane!!!

My height is 5' (barely) 2"
bust -- didn't measure but I wear a 36D
my waist is 30"
my hips 40"
(as you can see I'm a bit on the 'square side'... trying desperately to remedy that!)....

didn't measure my thighs cuz frankly I'm afraid to know what the tape measure says...

and my current weight is 127 as of this morning. (and that's with the 3 pound weight loss over the weekend).

okay ... now that I've BARED MY SOUL..... no one better be laughing at me!!!

I can't believe I just did that ... now I'm gunna hit submit before I http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/R11chickendancing.gif out!

sheesh.... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/omg.gif ... I can't believe the things you rawbies get me to do!!!

Maybe I should have been more specific with my word measurement... meaning your measurement on how much coconut oil you partake of. Sorry.

Yes, I did get a kick out of reading about the metal tape. BUT... aren't you glad you have the measurements now. I took mine before my herbal cleanse/MC cleanse and before this April challenge. I will re-measure myself come May 1 and post. When you don't see the scale moving, you can always check out your body measurement stats.

I'm glad you posted them, Starfire, you already inspire so many and you will continue to.....including me!!

Yeah, I was taking about 1 TBSP (2TBSP in a smoothie that my boyfriend and I split) a day, too! I think I might knock mine down some --- 1TBSP for the two of us to split or should it be even less?

Alissa's coconut oil is amazing. It can be more expensive than in my coop, so I cannot always afford it, but when I get it! Oh boy! It's delicious and amazing, my favorite of the ones I've had!

Okay, I pulled the following quote from Starfire on another thread. Answered my own question by doing a search.

From Starfire:
"For those that asked... I am taking the coconut oil by the spoonful. 2 to 3 times a day. between 1/2 teaspoon to 1-1/2 teaspoons... depending on what my body wants at that moment. Coconut oil is solid until it reaches like 72 degrees or something? Anyway - I just scoop it up and stick it in my mouth and it starts to melt and I swallow it. It took a time or two to get used to the fact that it is an oil - now - I 'm craving it! My body is loooving this coconut oil. (it's actually harder to take when it's liquid - being the 'graceful individual' that I am - I usually end up spilling it b4 it gets to my mouth -- so -- eating it in solid form is a plus for me!! lol!! "

I haven't figured out yet how to do it where it is in the box. Sorry.

Hope this helps anyone else that would like the info.

bluejaunte... thank you for your sweet words... (and everyone for that matter!) ya'll are too much... thank you!!

now -- as far as combining it with stuff... or the time of day...

it's probably fine to combine it - and it probably works just fine that way too... but I have this very weird thing I do... (my own weird logic... with ABSOLUTLEY NO scientific data or facts to back it up - LOL!)

but... it's something I have felt intuitively... so I just follow it...

here's my theory...
I don't want anything to get between me and the coconut oil and it's benefits... or to water down its properties or change its properties. So - I ALWAYS take it alone -- BEFORE EATING ANYTHING - before having anything else in my stomach - except perhaps water.

and...
I ALWAYS take it FIRST THING in the morning.... by first thing I don't mean when I first open my eyes - I mean... in the morning before I eat anything else... I don't take my first dose in the afternoon or evening...
now - on occassion ---
i have also taken a bit of coconut oil before I go to bed... but only when I feel like my body is saying ..."I want it".

I know I'm weird... but it's what works for me.

I have used coconut oil in recipes... and I love it - but that is separate and I do not count that as my 1/2 teaspoon dose. If I use it for a recipe - that's just me enjoying it's taste mixed in with other flavors...

hope that helped...!!

there is such a difference between how the body processes coconut oil and the coconut butter... I personally looooove the coconut butter --yummm and yummm again!! I actually did an experiment substituting the coconut butter for the oil... I ended up gaining weight -- but then again - it could be because I would take my small 1/2 a teaspoon and just sit there and be soooo enraptured with the taste - I'd usually end up grabbing more .... like a heaping tablespoon of it! heheheheee!! I couldn't just have 1/2 teaspoon of that... it's better than any kind of candy or treat (for me)... so I have to really be careful when I eat coconut butter.... THAT'S what I have on my shelf but I can't find the word "raw" on it.

But it is raw nonetheless. Bananas don't say "raw" on them; yet they are raw. Generally with oils, the words "cold-pressed", "extra-virgin", "unrefined" are all indicative that the oil has not been processed.

Starfire,
And my trainer yesterday said I am not losing weight cause I need MORE protein to burn the fat. Interesting. I suppose he is CORNfused! I have 18 to go. Marilyn Monroe and I were competing in the chest area. I am going down. I forgot yesterday's measurement but thinking 38 from 42ish or something like that. To me, way to big when I remember being 34 way back. I don't wear bras but the sporty kind by Champion sold at Target, Ross or other places like.

Carol that is soooo cool that you only have 18 lbs to go!! Hey I just got a couple of those sport bras from Target -- so much more comfortable than the ones that make me feel like I'm wearing steel armor - lol!!

okay - the coconut oil... it's usually about 1 hour before I eat after I take it... whether I take it first thing in the morning ... or as I'm leaving for work.. . my schedule is such that it takes a good hour to hour and a half before I've got things settled and humming at work.... once things settle down - then I usually fix myself something to eat... like a couple of slices of onion bread with some eggless eggsalad and sprouts... or onion bread or flax cracker with avo slices, tomato and sprouts, or I might just have some grape tomatoes and sliced cucumber and munch away while I sit at my desk and continue working. I know thats not the best thing to do ... work and eat at the same time... but that's how my schedule works out.

Bingo24... wow!! 1 lb in 2 days! that is so cool... coconut is such an amazing fruit isn't it?? or is it a nut?? or seed... gee... ya know I don't really know! either way... it is so healthy for us!! Have ya'll tried making noodles out of the young coconut meat?? omg... sooooo good!!!

Luna,
Whatever % you are raw is great. You can always play with the numbers. Glad you are here and sharing. I do most of the times 100% but then I may do a pinch of cooked sometimes. I don't freak out as I feel great either way, but I know raw is best. We eat tons of fresh produce here. People would think we have a large family when I shop, but it's just the two of us.

==

Interested in still hearing about people's successes using coconut butter vs. coconut oil with weight loss.

Your body's overall weight will fluctuate 1-2 lbs on a regular basis due to things such as water retention, sodium intake, etc. I wouldn't put any stock into the fact that this happened due to the coconut butter unless you observe such a change happening on a consistent basis (and not with coconut oil). One-time "experiments" are unreliable and don't really tell us much about what's actually likely to happen when the "experiment" is repeated.

ok, so I went and bought some actual coconut oil yesterday ... it smells soooo good but when I went to eat about 1/2 a teaspoon this morning .. ugh. How do you all eat this stuff? I took small amounts and let it melt on my tongue then swallowed but I had to drink water with lemon right after I ate it. Will I get used to it? It's just a bizarre feeling to swallow chunks of oil! LOL.

I will say though that I used it to take off my makeup last night and will be trying it in my hair eventually which I'm excited about!
