I've been pondering the idea of doing a fast for some time now  I'm not ready to do it yet. Maybe a few months from now-like during the hottest months of summer. The type of fast that makes the most sense to me is a juice fast. Is there a right way to do this?? Like drinking fruit juice in the morning and veggie juice in the afternoon and evening?? Is it possible to drink too much juice? What should I be concerned with?? I assume food combining is important. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts; preferably from a few people that have done a juice fast or another fast. But everyone's thoughts are welcome, of course :)
TIA

I wonder the same thing. I know some people drink up to a gallon of juice a day and call it a feast. I'm also not ready to do it yet, but I'm gathering information. I hope some experts add some info here soon!!!!

Ok, I would be far from an EXPERT but I have completed several 3 day juice fasts and my last fast was 12 days and I am currently on day two of however many days this juice fast will be... I'm shooting for better than 12.
Things I've learned:
The first day is the hardest.
After the first three days your hunger goes away.
I typically listen to my body and usually consume about 3 quarts of juice per day.
I do not adhere to fruit juice in the morning and veggie juice in the afternoon.
I will typically do 1 quart of veggie juice, 1 quart of some green juice blend (today I did granny smith apple, collard juice and celery) and 1 quart of fruit (today was grapefruit). This is just what works for ME.
Drink when you feel hungry. After the first 3 days I usually put myself on a schedule so that I am consuming the juice I want to drink because the hunger signal is gone.
Best of luck and enjoy the ride.

I echo Heather's post...
I am on day 1 of my Juice Fast. I'm aiming for 30 days...
I have done several Juice Fasts and have a couple of juicing books that help me out... (1) The Juiceman's Power of Juicing and (2) Juice Fasting and Detoxification. These are my "Juicing Bibles" and when I'm having a weak moment, I'll grab these and read them the same as I do when I grab Alissa's book and get encouragement for eating RAW.
What works for me is treating my juices as "Meals". That way, I look forward to having them with my family when they are sitting down to eat. Between Juices I drink water or add lemon to it and enjoy!
For me, I make sure that one of the juices during my day is a Green Juice. Lucy is always telling us: "Green Smoothies, Green Smoothies, Green Smoothies....." Well, on a juice fast I imagine her saying: "Green Juice, Green Juice, Green Juice..." and I can't agree more! The Green Juice seems to give me energy and gives me an inner calm that only Life-Giving nutrients can give! My favorite is: Celery Stalks, Bunch of Romaine or Spinach, 2 Apples, 1 Lemon...process through the juicer and enjoy! Of course, Carrot/Apple is always a YUMMY combination!!!
It IS possible to drink too much juice, too... Just like you can overeat, you CAN overdrink. I think that 8-16 oz per serving is enough for me. I wouldn't do anything over 20 oz at a sitting... Be careful if you're a diabetic too....
I hope that helps! Hugs on your journey!!!

Absolutely everything you might want to know can be found out from one of these three sources:
www.juicefeasting.com
www.globaljuicefeast.com
Angela Stoke's e-book, "A Juice Feaster's Handbook" at www.rawreform.com
I'm on day 50 of my juice feast (will go 90 days) and I can't think of a single question not answered in one of these places.
I gave kind of a long synopsis of my fast on this thread: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?p=413380#post413380
Please check that out - I go into a lot of detail there.
I don't do fruit in the morning and greens in the evening either - I think that would mess up my sugars. Fruit juice is SO rapidly assimilated into the system; I *must* slow it down by drinking greens with it. So I usually drink 2 cups green juice and then shortly after 1 cup fruit. Combining hasn't been a problem for me at all, as long as I don't drink a lot of fruit juice alone.

They talk about the whole schedule & MSM here:

Be warned that it tastes horrible, even in juices or smoothies. Maybe if you start with a small amount you can learn to tolerate it. You can be successful without it, it's just what they recommend & many use.
