having tough time here....
need some motivation i think!!
was juicing and green smoothie -ing it all time before!!
now lost creativity!! tough time bc of injury, can't get around bc on crutches and cast!
so... to keep it simple and find a way to get back to incorporating raw would help!!
i'm thinking i should start with some basics again?? spinach, apples, yams, parsley, -- and try to get back into juice again?
issue is have to get someone to take me to store - (crutches and cast :( ) -- then get some sort of system going in the kitchen.. bc limited with ability to get around!!!
HELP

Set up your juicer by your bed (or wherever you spend most of your time). Have someone buy big baskets of whatever produce is cheap and in season for you once a week. Keep the produce by your bed/juicer and juice away! Juicing is so healing and cleansing. You will feel better in no time!
Also, keep reading your favorite raw books, your favorite spiritual books, and watching raw videos on you tube. You need to keep your motivation up!

thanks for the suggestion!! hmmm.. putting my juicer by my bed with produce... not sure if that will work! could be really messy, too difficult to maintain.
maybe i just need to keep a basket in the kitchen, preorganized with varieties of veggies to juice?
what to do with pulp, since limited as to prep i can do. i guess i can freeze it til i can get back on my feet!
will definitely have a friend weekly get me a selection of some veggies and fruit.
simple recipes? anyone? ........ thanks!! :)

Is anyone helping you? Sometimes one of the most difficult things when you're laid up with a broken leg is to ask for help. Remember you don't have to do everything yourself. You're healing. Can someone come over and help you juice your veggies, clean up etc? What did you break? Tibia, fibula, ankle? Did you have surgery?
Be sure to get lots of celery juice in the regimine. Celery is good for the bones!!! And ginger root will help counteract some of the effects of the pain meds if you're taking it. Also helps with water retention. Apple = relieves constipation from taking those drugs.
Simple recipes....
Apple/Celery/Ginger Juice
Apple/Cucumber/Kale
Wheatgrass! Wheatgrass! Wheatgrass! (do you have a juicer that can handle it?) - It's a super healer. :D
Get well soon...hope your bones knit well & best wishes with rehab.

Do any of the grocery stores deliver in your area? Safeway delivers where I live. That way you can get the food you need if friends aren't available.
Eat plenty of bone building produce like kale (and all greens), pineapple, bananas, beets, brocolli, cauliflower, and sweet potatos.
Here's a juicing recipe:
Calcium drink
1/2 c. brocolli pieces
3 medium carrots
1 apple
small handful of parsely
1/2 lemon, peeled
If I were injured on crutches, I probably wouldn't want to deal with the prep and cleanup of juicing. Smoothies might be an easier option--plus you eat the fiber. Throw a few big handfuls of prewashed baby spinach, a couple ripe bananas, water, and watever you like in a blender. Or have on hand plenty of dried fruits and nuts and things like carrots, celery sticks, bananas, apples, grapes, etc...that you can just grab and eat with little prep. Maybe make up a big batch of sunflower seed spread to eat with your veggies or on flax crackers.
I'm in a wheelchair, so I understand the challenge you may have in the kitchen. I'll pray for your speedy recovery.

you are so right..-- tough asking for help !!
didn't want to burden anyone... so told people i was just fine!! (not true! :( )
i do miss juicing.. and yes.. the clean up would certainly too much work
i think the smoothies are a good suggestion!! -- thank you!!
thanks for the combinations and suggestions!!
thanks for the HEALING recipes, especially for bones!!
it was a compound fracture -- tibia and fibula, and had to get rod and screws put in!! yes-- had the surgery immediately after the break!

Great information. I pulled a tendon we are thinking so maybe great for me too here.
Oh, my friend is not health conscious yet, but he is also wheelchair bound. He was drinking/driving years back and bound to the wheelchair. He wants to improve his health and get out of the wheelchair to go sing professionally so giving him all the advice I can share. Thanks.
He does eat a SAD diet.

carolg, physical therapy can help your friend get on his feet, as well as a good home exercise routine. Cleaning up the diet will help--eat raw! Get the green smoothie in for breakfast. Eat lots of greens and other raw sources of protein like hemp protein powder and bee pollen granules to help build up his body. Also, staying mentally strong and persistant is so important.
I recommend the book "The Raw Life" by Paul Nison, as it is one that young men can relate to. It instructs on getting the toxic things out of one's life and uses a boxing analogy throughout.

Welcome to the metal club!!! :p Compound...ouch...me too...not fun. I broke foot, tibia, fibula, ankle, femur, knee. I've had a lot of the plates/screws removed, but still have a plate on my femur, screws in my knee that you wouldn't even know are there.
I definately understand and I learned the hard way to finally ask for help. You don't want to be a burden, but you may find...at least it was true for me, that those who care about you want to help. You experience both the worst and best of human nature when you're healing...most people are very kind and will hold doors open for you, get your bags, etc. I had home nursing care, but I also finally had to call friends and family say "hey, I need help!" I had a cast on my arm and leg, in a wheelchair at one point. You gotta be realistic.
HEAL WELL AND STRONG.
It will pass, believe me.

A bit less serious than breaking a leg, but I broke a toe a couple of years ago and it didn't start really healing until I started putting lots of broccoli in my green smoothies. That might help you too! I'd also recommend a green powder to help speed that healing process along. Tahini is also very high in calcium. You can mix tahini, honey/agave, coconut oil, and cacao for an easy-to-eat, nutrient-dense spread for on bananas or whatever.
Sorry if I'm repeating what others said .. don't have time to read all the posts right now, just thought I'd throw that out there :o

thank you!! for - emphasizing the broccoli !! i never think to put broccoli in my smoothie or juicer!!
tahini is made from sesame seeds, right?
i just need to motivate myself.. and just prepare a bunch of stuff!!
funny...... i keep checking the boards..... as if i will find some miraculous cure!! i am just used to being so independent and creative, and now it just seems like i am struggling to put recipes together! weird,... because before i was really getting the whole raw food movement, was improvising and experimenting all the time!! i really had the hang of it.
i miss that!! it just hasn't been coming to me naturally........... i think mostly because i feel like i am just in this funk!! feeling more lousy mentally than physically....... even with a broken leg!! :(
but i do know....... if i just get started again, i will feel better in no time!! especially important is to feel stronger and happier mentally!!
can't wait for that! :)
wow... glad to be able to vent here!! it helps!! :)

Yup, tahini is just sesame seeds. Black tahini (made from black sesame seeds!), while more expensive, is, as I recall, much higher in calcium and iron. The brands of tahini (regular and black) that I like best are Artisana and Living Tree Community.
Good luck! :)
