I reccomend buying this from mercola's website.

I have bought this and uploaded the cds to my mp3 player, and the books were also extremely valuable.

The articles on this website ::

This has some good advice.

And typing into youtube 'bates method' is particularly helpful.

If anyone has improved their eyesight through food alone, please tell me, especially people who specifically eat goji berries and omega 3 foods which apparently can cure eyesight by just eating them.

Good question. I am also very curious about improving eyesight. Have heard stories in the past of individuals who did improve through various exercise, etc, but no longer remember the specifics. The optometrist and the opthamologist both advised that it was not possible. Same with improving astigmatism.

When I have a little more time, will be doing more research on this. Hope some others will have experience to share with us.

Well, there are two sides to every argument, and I dont think the optometrists will agree with the Bates method, or have even heard of it.

And yes, The books I have read on natural eyesight improvemnt were very encouraging, some examples and stories of people seeing improvements in only about 2 weeks, and then taking up to 3 months to become clear 20/20.

And to keep things simple, 'sunning' and 'palming' will be most useful for a beginner. Sunning uses sunlight to strenghten the eyes, and palming will relax the eyes. I will repost with the proper ways of doing those techniques.

Hi. I'm a devoter to Bates Method.

For those who's not familiar with the Bates Method or also know as Natural Eye Healing / Vision Therapy, I've pasted an article below for your further reading.

The Bates method is a system of natural vision improvement / eye healing invented by William H. Bates, M. D. in the early part of the 20th century. For forty years since 1891, Dr Bates, a renowned ophthalmologist, researched deeply into the root causes of vision problems such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism. He was not satisfied that prescribing glasses would cure the vision problems, after noting that many of his patients actually continue to suffer deteriorating vision after wearing the glasses. Poor eyesight is caused by the strain to see. The way to better eyesight is through relaxation of both mind and body. Dr Bates was so successful in curing thousands of his patients that he subsequently published a perennial best seller, “Perfect Sight Without Glasses” in 1920.

Dr Bates discovered in his research that vision fluctuates. The eyes, just like any part of the body, is subjected to stress, emotions, mind-body interaction, and physical habits. Glasses do not alleviate vision problems, but like a cement crutch on the eyes, hampers the natural healing of the eyes.

Despite its long history (and critics over the decades), no one has yet proven nor disproven the Bates method. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no long-term clinical trials on the Bates method. It may all sound very unsubstantiated and “alternative”, but there has been thousands of anecdotal accounts of success.

We must explore every possible weapon in the fight against the epidemic that is myopia. If there is a vision scientist or psychologist out there reading this, please propose a clinical study of the Bates method. The possible benefits are too big for us to ignore.

At the moment I am trying to improve my eyesight using the method, and when it is better, I will tell everyone, and tell you all what I did.

Just found this.

Thanks for the reply.

i currently have an eye chart on my wall, and can measure myself at about 10/200, which isnt great.

Just for anyone who doesn't understand how to measure your eyesight reading from an eye chart, the 10 or the 20 in the first part of the reading means how far away you are from the eye chart, so 20/20 is 20 feet away, and better than 10/20.which is viewing the eye chart from only 10 feet away. I think its feet, or it may be measured in something else.

The second part of the 20/20, means you can read the ''20th'' line, its not actually the 20th line, but just the name given to that line. As can seen here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Snellen06.png

i mention this because this is the way that I am currently measuring my eyesight improvements.

the best eyesight, 20/5 or 20/4 would be the last two lines on the snellen chart.

So ive come to the conclusion there are only 4 ways to improve eyesight.

1) get a pair of glasses

2) get contact lenses

3) get laser eye surgery

4)the bates method

these other 2 may not count

5)improving diet
6)things like yoga, alexander technique, these may fall under as the bates method.

My definition of improving eyesight is being able to see the next line on a snellen card after a period of, a month or so, so glasses, and contact lenses, do not improve eyesight, just correct it. And one cannot improve eyesight if they are wearing glasses all the time, so they must be removed even if its blurry for the person.

No one I personally know has ever improved their eyesight by wearing glasses, it either gets worse with each opticians visit or just stays as bad as it always was.

So take your pick.

Hey fuggles -- this is an interesting idea. I am pretty nearsighted (I think -4.75 in one eye and -4.25 in the other), but in the last couple months, I haven't been wearing my glasses in the morning before I start work. I've been curious if that's been helpful to my vision, although it doesn't seem it would help much since I have still been wearing them for most of the day.

What do you know about this method? Have you personally tried it?

fuggles

Personally I still have blurry vision but I stopped wearing them just 2 months ago, and it feels better, and Ive never worn them since. When I move out of my parents house, I wil practice the Bates Method full flow, and then I expect better results.

I'm a little discouraged -- I was making efforts to see without my glasses sometimes and have been eating raw. Since my last exam two years ago, my eyes are MUCH worse!!! (from -4.25 and -4.75 to -5.5 or so in both eyes). Yikes!
