I use the coarse/fruit filter in my Green Star when making citrus juices (orange and/or grapefruit) to allow more pulp/fiber/calories through and minimize waste.
The problem is when I clean the coarse filter with the included brush all the citrus pulp ends up stuck in the brush, I then have to brush the brush with a toothbrush, after which I need to brush the toothbrush and I never really get rid of all the pulp in the brushes.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could clean the filter without all the pulp just ending up stuck in the brush?
Thanks

You use the GS for citrus??? Never done that. Too much like work. I use a citrus juicer. Soooo much easier. Don't have to clean the screen, the brush or the brush that brushes the brush.
IF I did what you did, I'd run water through the whole thing to eliminate as much pulp as I could, then swish the screen in some water, then use the brush; change the water and swish the brush in the water and/or use a veggie brush on it, then swish THAT brush in the water. See? Too much work.
I like my life simple.

I also have the green star and use it for citrus. I've found that if I soak the screen for a while, and then rub it with my fingers, most of the pulp rinses off very easily, and then I only have to use the brush a little. It makes it pretty simple and easy to clean.
Hope that helps.

The Green Star extracts twice as much juice (100% more) than a professional restaurant grade citrus juicer (if a professional citrus juicer extracts 1 liter, the Green Star would extract 2 liters out of the same amount of citrus), so I can only assume the difference is even greater with a regular citrus juicer.
I'm really tight on money these days so throwing half my citrus money down the drain isn't quite an option. It still only takes about 10-15 minutes to make 1.5 liters and clean it. Even if I wasn't tight on money I wouldn't like knowing that half my juice is still in the fruit and in the trash.
Maybe I'll do the test once to see if the 100% more juice out of citrus with the Green Star is really true, it's a huge difference.
Oh, and to get back on topic of cleaning the coarse screen, before even looking at the replies I got here I decided to try and use a sharp knife to scrape the screen from the inside, it worked perfectly! I was alble to get 99% of the pulp out with just the knife by scrapping the insides of the filter.
Thanks
I have a greenstar and a breville citrus juicer. The citrus juicer makes more juice for me than the greenstar and is much easier to clean. There is a demo of the juicer in the breville website. Dont get me wrong, I love my greenstar too, just not for citrus. Citrus juice also tastes better from a citrus juicer. I always get a bitter taste in my citrus juice when I use the greenstar. I can cut, juice a quart and clean my breville in less than 10 minutes. I drink a lot of citrus juice so it was worth the investment for me. Most of the time I just use my vitamix for green juices as it is faster than the greenstar too and much easier to clean. My brush cleans my greenstar screens pretty well. I just scrub it under running water. The greenstar also makes the best sorbets ever!!! My little one loves it!! Best of luck to ya!!

I don't find that to be true since my juicer takes it down to the rind but then, I use the pulp in my smoothie anyway so I get it all with very easy clean-up, plus, as Jen said, I don't like the bitterness from using a regular juicer OR just peeling the orange and dropping it into the VM.
Glad you found what works for you! :)

I use a dishwashing brush with fairly soft brissles. It works very well.
