Some raw foodists believe that a periodic detox regiment is necessary, even while on a high raw or 100% raw diet. Will those of you who incorporate a detox program into your lifestyle please share your perspectives on the pros and cons of doing so. Thanks

I'm starting the MC, and it's just because I have a lot of food issues, hangups, addicitons in general and I feel like I need to clean the slate.
I genuinely feel, spiritually, that I need that complete focus on self, like a giant meditation or retreat. ...although I realize I will still be in the midst of my life.
I also need some quick results, not just weightloss, but just the general feeling of growth in leaps and bounds so I can more tangibly see my own progress.
I suppose the cons would be not taking the rest of your life slow enough and giving it enough attention, so then you don't coast through it as well, and end up quitting because you get too stressed or lose focus or don't stay hydrated enough or get low blood sugar and don't know how to deal with it. I think you need to know the pitfalls and how to handle them.
And ofcourse you can take it too seriously and it can become an obsession and that whole road and all it entails.
....I suppose, in hindsight, my pros and cons are the more obvious ones?

Thanks. Your insights are helpful. I'd love to hear from others about their experience with a detox regiment.

Whenever you do something very loving/healthy for yourself...it makes it safe for old blockages (physically, emotionally, etc.) to be removed. Sort of a reverse process. It's like: "you ignored me once.....here I am again in a safer environment for you to deal with me".
-In my own opinion, detox is always going on at some level. Sometimes we do something very bad.....and suffer.....or sometimes we do something very good....and release old baggage....ready to move on.

In life, we cleanse as we go, physically, mentally and emotionally.

There are many, many ways of initiating this cleansing process. Each of us must find our own way, or we cannot grow and move on in life. For some, fasting, juice feasting, or doing a cleanse is a great way to initiate this process. For others, going raw is good. Some people may need to go on a vacation. Some people meditate. Others engage in religious ceremony.
In our day to day lives, we move fast. We live in a information rich, decision heavy environment. We rely on mental shortcuts, prejudices, and repression to help us deal with all of the clutter that we see every day. Cleansing allows us to slllloooowww down, and we can deal with all of that stored up blockage, that accumulated nonsense, and move on, and grow.
