In Recipe's? I don't see it come up much in anything I've seen, and for my birthday, a friend made me an herb garden....
Which... I am having a difficult time maintaining....
I know that would seem a simple task, but I am the product of a latch-key, fast food environment, so eating raw, having a garden of ANY sort is extremely different for me....
It seems as if little critters are eating it up: (
And, I seem to have killed the basil, which I love eating just to eat, and now there is none: *(

Any herb garden input,as well as Rosemary recipes would be luh va lee....

Hi Lauri,

I seem to remember there are a few threads here on organic gardening. Might want to go up to the banana and do the search. :)

try a very diluted mix of jalepino juice , garlic juice and onion juice with a bit of hand/dish soap (organic if possible)

don't feel bad, basil is easy to kill,

Much like our bodies cry out for disease, when we are toxic, your plants will cry out for bugs when they aren't happy.

Most herbs, especially basil need full sun, and lots of water, but not wet feet, which means don't leave them sitting in water, They also like to be pinched off, so eating them is a good thing.

also, they don't like to be root bound, and herbs grow very fast, so they can get root bound very easily.

The number one death to plants is too much water.

so, that may be your challenge.

Rosemary is exceptionally good with anything you want to taste savory or hearty, such as a bread, or heavy food, like herbed cheese (cashew cheese) is excellent with rosemary, basil and thyme. Or nut pate' with rosemary.

it is good in a dressing, or bread or cracker.

or even better , lady bugs - you can buy them from some local nurserys

oh the mixture above needs 2 cups to every 1-2 t. of soap..and put the final mix in a spray bottle ,and spray after every other watering!

btw the spray ,will kill most bad bugs , yet SOME good preditory bugs (including the little ladies  )

and spiders help ,so welcome your spidery freinds :)

Thanks for the gardening tips, VV and RP.... I will try them out.
I killed the basil almost right away. My friend had told me to keep them watered, as they had just been put in the pot. I have all kinds of things in it, and it was BEAUTIFUL!, and now, I just went home (I have been housesitting), and my roommate didn't water it ONCE like I had asked her to, and it looks as if a swarm of locusts has had their way w/my baby!! I am house sitting elsewhere, and have brought it w/me. It's been in the sun, but...

I am also wondering if part of it is b/c I put my pulp on the top of the soil, and it attracted bugs? I am feeling Oh so like Amelia Bedelia...

I will try your rosemary suggestions, RawPriestess, which is the main reason I posted, and then my trauma struck, which is why I injected my dilemma about the garden.
Thus, Revvell, why I hadn't done the nana thing as of yet. : )  I am going to call you AKA "keep me on my toes", or something like that. Because I know, if I don't research before I post, you will be to type in your, "do a search you, dork", in not so many words : ).... You have put the fear of Revvell in me!! :p :)
And, I will post my other herb garden questions in the gardening section, AFTER I have checked to see if any one has addressed it (them) yet....
But, I am going to sneak in one last question...
Now that it looks so atrocious, should I just cut off all the bad parts and let it try to live again? Should I pinch them off? Was I naughty to leave the stuff (pulp) on top, could that have been the catalyst to it's demise?

Thanks!
Lauri

Hi, pinch off the bad parts,
get rid of the pulp.

Plants don't like metal instruments, they much prefer to be handled with human hands. that way they don't turn black, think of cutting lettuce.

also, pulp on top of the soil, just decays, and turns icky, the bugs come to clean it up, but if it is under the soil, it turns into compost, but it does take a while.

So, it's best to make your own compost, not in and around plants although the Vita Mix company does say you can do this, I've never found it to work well.
