I've never done this before, normally I just grind the seeds, but I want to try and make some conventional flax crackers with whole seeds...
how long do I soak the seeds?
whats the seed/water soaking ratio?
do I rinse after I soak?

I usually take a quart canning jar; add however many seeds are required in said recipe; fill with water.

Usually 6 hours will do it but, I stick a chopstick down to make sure everything is getting soaked and I can get it done in about 4 hours.

DO NOT RINSE! Slimy is what holds your stuff together. Think if it as egg yolky.

ooohhh, that really helped!
so if the slimy is what holds the stuff together, what is the slimy stuff?
1 more question...
can I blend some of the soaked seeds to break them up a little, or should I blend some first and let them soak with the whole seeds?

Flax slime.

Hmmm. Never done that. Blend first, then add to soaked OR, which I think is better, just add the dry blended seeds to the recipe. They'll absorb the fluid and hold whatever it is you're making, together.

Most of my recipe books say to soak flax for just 15 minutes... I've never done it longer.

I soak mine from about 4 hours to sometimes overnight, depending on when I need the seeds.

I throw the soaked seeds into my foodprocessor to really mix up the slime, and/or mix the seeds with other ingredients...I find them to make a cracker a little crispier after they've been through the fp (maybe because I have better luck spreading them thin in the dehydrator).

I've learned to love flax crackers...I snazz them up all different ways now too....and they are really "cleansing" LOL!!!
