View Full Version : Greenstar obsession

I saw a video of someone using a green star juicer on Thursday, and since then, I haven't been able to get it out of my head! I currently blend greens and fruit in my vitamix, and make juice by straining out the pulp in a nut milk bag. This method takes forever, but it yields good juice.
I keep obsessing about the green star juicer and suddenly I want one so much. I'm not one to want many things; in general I prefer to buy as little as I can get by with. I can afford a juicer, but my parents probably wouldn't appreciate another appliance cluttering their kitchen. Also, I am going away to college in the fall.
Does anyone here have a greenstar juicer? Do you like it? Would you bring it to college with you if you were living in a dorm?
Thanks so much for your replies! I keep dreaming about feeding celery, kale, cucumbers, apples, ginger, lemon wedges and spinach into my greenstar juicer!

Yes, I love my Greenstar. It's a better investment in my health than buying vitamin pills. It's absolutely wonderful but not perfect- it's not the easiest to clean. But I still gratefully do it. My health desperately needs extra liquid nutrition from low-glycemic green juices. My next purchase will be a Vitamix; it was a hard call which one to get first.

I love the juice etc it produces but its a pain chopping everything to get it through the chute and then cleaning it afterwards. I usually use my cheap centrifugal juicer with a big chute that takes whole fruit and veg and is easier to clean, even though I know it kills most of the nutrients. I can't wait to own a vitamix.
Green juice still makes me throw up (my body hasnt adapted enough yet) so I can only consume greens blended or whole. :(
If I could drink green juice I might appreciate it more.

I got a green star a bit after christmas and love it. I couldn't have done a better choice on a juicer.
I don't find it's a problem cutting things, but I rarely have to cut the things I juice:
-Carrots (most will fit fine, otherwise cut a bit off the thicker end)
-Leafy vegetables
-Scallions
-Garlic/ginger
-Oranges/grapefruits (just peel and quarter by hand)
-Apples (quarter with a knife, easy)
I find cleanup very easy, I always clean it in less than 5 minutes, and can make a juice and clean the machine in 15-20 minutes.

hello there,
I recently got a greenstar and love it!! I really do not find clean up that bad. Also to me one of the most of important features of the machine is it gives you more nutrients that any other juicer. Also it is good for making frozen fruit into ice cream like substance. It makes nut butter, but I have not tired it. I think it is well worth the investment.

I like mine, but to be honest I would never have taken it to college! Back then I did use a cheap LaLanne though. The parts of the greenstar are just heavy/clumsy and I wouldn't want to be cleaning it in a public sink situation.
Besides juice, I have enjoyed making sprout breads, nut butters without having to add extra oil/honey like in vitamix. Also, the flax breadsticks recipe that was here a couple months back...

I traded mine for a Samson. I don't know how heavy the new Green Star is but mine was quite heavy and awkward whereas my Samson is lighter and easier to handle.
If I were going to take one appliance to school (other than an fp, it would be the VM... that's it! BUT, if you've got room for the juicer, go for it!)

I appear to collect juicers and while the Green Star makes great juice, mine is a reminder of a rocket launcher - big and heavy. I would, as Revell stated, take my Vitamixer. For the ease of school, I's take a Breville (yes, it is centrifugal), but a great and easy clean-up, and juice maker.

I love my Greenstar for juicing everyday and I make a BIG bowl of sorbet everyday with frozen bananas, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches or any combo of frozen fruit. I LOVE it!!!! I'm used to cleaning it...so it is not that bad.
