* i am no cook, so if you feel like giving this recipe a go, please do so without any hopes. most things taste good to me. this is my disclaimer. :) *
Raw V8 Smoothie
:base:
1.5 cups water
1/2 avocado + pit
3 tomatoes
1 celery stalk
1/2 cup spinach
1 cup of kale
1/4 red pepper
1 carrot
1/2 beet * i would include if i had them *
:spice:
1/4 cup parsly
1/8 sweet onion
1/4 garlic clove
salt to taste
makes 6 cups (1 big serving - semi-thick)
i'm still working on refining this, so if anyone has any ideas, please post them. my intention is to have a nice all veggie drink with garlic and onion in it.

That sounds good; I would add a little cayenne and some parsley?
Cheers!

i think it tastes good. it's just that i'm quite easily pleased. this is one of the first recipes i've ever posted.
i was surpised that the onion and garlic didn't overpower the drink. they seemed to liven it up. i hoped it would colour of the drink might be red, but it was green. the drink can be easily thickened by adding carrots. though i didn't want something so thick that i felt it was a chore to drink. i want this to be enjoyable and nutritious at the same time. i've experimented with so many drinks that i had to force down.
Joz,
I did put parsley in it. i just spelled it incorrectly. as for the cayenne, i like the sounds of that. that would heat things up nicely.

i haven't had a v8 smoothie.. but many v8's through the juicer!! tastes good and easy to drink.
when taking left over pulp from juicer.. and adding fruit, the 'green' smoothie is more tolerable

if you want to give it a zing with a little heat... add in 1/2 a jalapeno! it would be amazing with that!!!

Aleesha,
you just made my salivary glands drip for those jalapeno peppers. * drools * tomorrow i'm going to try to make it to the market and get some.

i just jam-packed all the ingrediants in the blendtec (or vitamix if you have it) at once, including the avocado pit, and programmed it for 'xl smoothie.' 35 seconds later it was perfect.
if the ingrediants are put in the blender in the order they appear, it should work out great. the carrot and beet do have to be cut to one inch pieces.
i don't believe in wasting the valuable fibre and minerals within it so i won't use a juicer. the ingrediants seemed to come together to make a very nice consistancy anyway.
the evolution of V8:
V8 cans - refined/cooked/preservatives
V8 homemade - cooked/lack of fibre
V8 raw juice - lack of fibre
V8 raw smoothie
it just makes sense to me, not to mention its more faster and easier to make, it's more economical, makes less waste. infact, no waste. everything goes in, even the carrot tops.
i'm excited to wake up and have another one for breakfast. i'll be playing around with ingrediants to see the best combo i can make.
please continue to share thoughts. maybe we could compare recipes. i'd like to try different versions. :)

Sounds really good--especially with the added hot pepper heat. Don't get the avo pit, though. Wouldn't eat it plain, so don't think I'd include it. Is there supposed to be some vitamin/mineral that would be very missed without it?

I'm addicted to these! I've been looking for a good tasting all veggie smoothie for a while. This is it! I've become addicted to the hot chili's as well, yum.

The avocado pit is full of soluble fibre. I like to include the entire vegetable, including stem to get all the possible benefit. The pit will blend to a texture that seems to melt on the tongue. A nice filler and body cleanser.

Look at you making wonderful recipes....I usually get new recipes by making a mistake and finding out that I love it. (then it's not a mistake, just a wonderful discovery) Many times it's also because I don't have this ingredient or that one so I end up substituting something else and loving it.
