The other day I bought my first Papaya! :D
I have 2 questions:
1. When do you know your Papaya is ripe?
2. What should I do with my first Papaya? Smoothie, dressing, pudding, salad?
Thanks for the input. I'll be waiting......;)

it is soft and "gives" when you press your finger on it. I would make a smoothie with it and add a banana! But that's just what sounds good right now.

When it turns yellowish and slightly ugly looking...yup...and gives slightly like a firm peach. I always freeze some and add it to smoothies. Blend with frozen banana to make a great pudding...with added mango too...delicious.
Papaya makes things very smooth.
It can have a strong smell and taste which might take some getting used to...at first I didn't like it, now I love it and buy one every week.
Good luck and fun experimenting.

i am on a total papaya kick right now, which is awesome because i used to not really be all that into em, but i have a newfound appreciation for that lovely fruit. also, if you have a juicer, i must recommend you try juicing some papaya-it's totally yummy :)

It's so simple, but what I love for breakfast, is putting about 1/3 of a peeled and de-seeded papaya in the Vita Mix with the juice of a large orange. Blend it up and enjoy. It's delicious. Sprinkle some pomegrante seeds on top if you want.
