Hi all, my name is Karen and I hail from Marysville Washington, currently snowing....
I am fairly new to the raw journey, 3 weeks this time but I went raw for 3 months last summer. This time it is for good I believe. I have 5 in the family, DH is open to raw but prepares his own stuff on the side, DS (5) eats what he feels like whether it is raw or not, 2DD's are totally SAD, but will occaisionally drink green smoothies if the green part is hidden by blueberries.
I am making this change for health reasons, I have never been this large (270) and am pre-diabetic since giving birth to DS almost 6 years ago. I really don't want to cross that bridge and am hoping I can reverse the condition eventually.
So far I have dropped 7 pounds but my main problem is I have suddenly developed very dry skin on hands, elbows and feet.
Looking forward to meeting you all and learning...
Trying to find some local raw foodies to maybe do occaissional potlucks with...

Welcome Karen! I wish you and yours the very best of rawesome health! I began my raw journey at about the same weight that you are. I am now down to 185.6 as of last Wednesday, and have only been raw since 8/1/2007. It does work and it can be done!!!

So glad you found us!

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!!!! I'm so glad you have joined us! Your family sounds lovely!!! (very cute about the gs hidden by blueberries!! LOL! had to chuckle about that!! :D !!)

as far as the dry skin... maybe incorporate some coconut oil into your gs or (I actually just eat it straight off the spoon by the 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoonful)...
you get used to it - now I enjoy it!

you might also check out the 'oil pulling thread'.... believe it or not -- oil pulling really helps with dry skin... and actually any kind of skin ailments!

or do a google search on 'dry brushing'.... this also stimulates the lymphatic system... and will help with the moisture and health of your skin!!

It's really wonderful to have you joining us!!

RAWk on!! blessings on your journey!!
