Hi,
Just got my Vitamix and watched the video, then went and cleaned it with the water and few drops of dish washing soap. Then my sister went to make corn chowder in it, and I put it on with variable one and then slowly went up to 10 and I was at about 6 the blender completely stopped and wouldn't go back on. There was plenty of water in with the corn, carrots, garlic and spices etc.
Do I really have to wait 45 minutes to turn it back on and try again, the booklet says it may have overheated and to wait up to 45 minutes. We were about to make dinner and now have to transfer the whole thing into our leaky blender to mix. Help anyone?

That's happened to me before and recently too...I just kept trying every five minutes or so and then it worked. I don't remember how long it took, but I know it wasn't 45 minutes...it was a lot sooner than that.
Btw, although you have enough water in there, try not to push everything down at the same time with the tamper (don't know if you're doing that, just something I've learned). Just use the tamper in one corner and go from there.
Congrats on your purchase! I've loved mine for 11 years now! Still going strong and worth the expense!

Could you have a defective vitamix? Mine only overheats when I try to blend 4 cups of raisins into a paste, using no water. Even then, it overheats after about 2 minutes of raisin blending. Also, mine starts working again after 5 minutes of cooling down.

Hi,
Thanks to both of you for replying. It turns out it was the plug, as I had plugged it into our stove plug which obviously couldn't handle such a powerful blender. I switched it to a wall outlet and it seems fine now. I did notice a slight smell though when I used it on the oven outlet like a burning smell and slightly when I moved it to the wall outlet. It blended fine though for the corn soup and I just made nut milk in the new spot and it had no trouble blending.
I'll keep an eye on it though, maybe it's a new smell that I'm smelling. It's the 5200 model and I was so excited today as I got that and a custom soap mold I've been waiting awhile for and then another soap supply order came a few hours later so it was a overwhelming day with all these new things to try out.
rawstrengh,
I thought you always had to have water in your Vitamix to blend and I'm afraid to try it without. I've got the wet and dry container to experiment with.
