How do tea and alcohol fit into the raw diet, if at all?
I occasionally drink organic wine and beer.
I drink green tea daily and sometimes decaf chai and herbals.
Teecino is also a favorite.
Oh, and is soymilk that bad(the unsweetened kind) and store bought nut and oat milks(Pacific)?

soy milk isn't really good
green tea i used to drink it all the time but it turns out that the benfits work for people who have been drinking it since childhood similar to yam root to stop menstruation. herbals are ok. i read green tea plays havoc with your kidneys unless you have always drunk it
i don't drink alcohol even though im 18 but instead i make drinks with aloe vera juice and it it tastes pretty similar red blood grapes and aloe.
it's easy to make nut milks and oat milk i like sesame and hazelnut. it's my fav i know someone who makes hemp milk havn't tried it yet tho lol

For me, not at all. You "might" find that, after being raw, your desire for alcoholic beverages decreases. Also, it would depend on what you are hoping to get ~ what benefits ~ from the raw food lifestyle.

I occasionally drink organic wine and beer.
You might wish to do a search on the wine topic. My question for you ~ is beer raw? Organic and raw are two different things.

I drink green tea daily and sometimes decaf chai and herbals.
Again, do the search on green tea/caffeine, etc. Decaf, because of the chemicals used is probably as bad or worse than caffeine. Hard to tell. It's all bad for one. PLUS, if you are using boiling water for your teas, etc., then they are not raw. ALSO, how raw are the leaves? Are they processed?

Teecino is also a favorite.

Processed and most likely cooked. Don't know, can't say.

All those have been cooked and highly processed.

See, what I see you doing here is going around the real issue of whether something is raw or not. You put "unsweetened" in and "organic" beer and wine. Let's look at the REAL issues. Are they RAW? Do they contain caffeine, alcohol, etc? Is that what you wish to continue doing ~ or not?

lahandrews ~ thing is, if you are in transition, these things are good for that. IF you are truly headed for a raw lifestyle, you might learn to make your own almond/sunflower seed milks, etc.

As I said, it depends on what you wish to accomplish going raw. IF you are looking to heal, allowing those things to drop away will assist in that. If not, then hold on to whatever you wish to.

Thanks for your advice. I know that these items are not really raw, but I am also not on a raw diet yet and am trying to transition. so i guess i should have asked if these items fit into a transition diet. I haven't been drinking any alcohol lately. I'm just not sure if I'm ready to give up wine and beer for good.

lahandrews,

Well, if you've not gotten Alissa's book/dvd yet, I'd highly suggest it. Another would be Storm and Jinee's eBooks (forget the vid). They will all help with transition questions.

Each person has their own path to getting where they are going.

For me, I started over 25 years ago "wanting" to be vegetarian; then 18 years ago going vegetarian; then, transitioning to raw. Some here jump right in cold turkey from SAD to raw. Others are taking steps and just adding more fruits, veggies, etc. Depends on what you can and are willing to do. Best thing I've found is, find some recipes that sound good to you. What you "may" find is, the more good stuff you put in your body, the less bad stuff you'll have room or desire for.

<<the more good stuff you put in your body, the less bad stuff you'll have room or desire for>>

Pretty much sums it up in a nutshell, yes? :)

Well, as far as this site is concerned, we are all striving for a RAW Vegan lifestyle.

So, (and I can only speak for myself) do not indulge in any of those things.

I do drink tea, but my hubby picks fresh camomile from our meadow and steeps it in warm --NOT HOT-- water, and I drink it that way.

I do not drink wine, beer, alcohol of any kind, never liked feeling "out of control" and don't care for the taste anyway. There are so many wonderful fruits to juice and veggies too, I can't imagine wanting any other drink.

I believer Green Tea has caffeine, and even if it doesn't it does somehow react to me, as I feel "hyped up" after drinking it, so I don't any more. Quit about 20 years ago.

I don't drink any soy or nutmilks from the store, as
1. They are not raw
2. They are so easy to make yourself
3. They are expensive from the store.
4. I don't like thinkgs in packages, as that is just one more thing to through in the trash, where with almond pulp or seed pulp, I can either make crackers or cookies from it, or even compost it, but it DOES NOT go in the trash.

I'm only about 1 month into my high raw way of eating. I've always been one of those weekend beer/wine drinkers. I am finding out that I don't want any alcohol anymore. It takes me DAYS to feel 100% after drinking ANY amount of alcohol. Well, I've kicked the smoking, now out goes the alcohol! So true, I just don't want any of it anymore.
