Does anyone know how to gain weight on a raw diet?

Keep exercising to build muscle. It will come, but slowly. Douglas Graham's book is an excellent little piece of work on the subject. ;)

I had this question since I've been raw. I used to workout a lot and was fairly muscular. I eventually stopped and then went raw. I lost it all.

For my first 2 years raw I had no idea how to get my weight/strenght/muscles back, I tried to just eat more, but raw food is so filling that this is simply 100% impossible, I tried and tried, trust me.

As you can see in my signature I've just put on 10 lbs in about a month on raw! So I obviosuly have found the answer, finally!

The answer should have been more than obvious from the start: Start working out again. As soon as I did, my hunger at least doubled, allowing me to eat much much more (now eating 4000-5000 calories/day, about 90% raw), and my weight, strenght and musculature are all rapidly comming back. It's critical to increase your calorie intake to gain weight, but this will come automatically as you workout.

It's important also to understand some exercises cause weight loss and some cause weight gain, so it's critical to do the right exercises or you'll just loose even more weight.

For weight LOSS:
-Cardio
-Free weight exercises with low weight, high reps (a weight you can lift at least 10-20 times before failure)

For weight GAIN:
-No or little cardio
-Free weight exercises with heavy weight, low reps (a weight you can lift 4-6 times before failure)
-The big three exercises: Bench press (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/BBBenchPress.html), Squats (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBSquat.html), and Deadlifts (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/GluteusMaximus/BBDeadlift.html)

Raweater!
Congratulations on gaining your 12 pounds! We like sunflowers. Sunflowers move throughout the day to maximize the sunlight that they get. Just like sunflowers, we are all continually adjusting, following what works for us. I'm glad that you've found a way to eat and excersize that allows you to achieve your goals!

To all others, keep adjusting! You will get there :D .
