Hello everyone;
I am new to this so here it goes. Does anyone out there have issues or problems with keeping their acid/alkaline in balance while on a raw food lifestyle?

I read a lot about this when I first began raw, but it hasn't been a problem so I stopped thinking about it. The body keeps itself balanced at just the right ph and there is only a tiny bit of variation. From what i understand, the acid problem arises when we eat so much acid forming food like meat, coffee, dairy...or worry constantly. In that case minerals from our bones can be used to make the ph a bit more alkaline. The opposite problem, being overly alkaline, is rare. I think that if we eat a variety of raw foods including some acid forming raw foods like nuts and seeds we should be fine. This is my very basic understanding. Are you having a problem with this yourself?

Hi Shashabila;
Yes from time to time I find that I am a little acidic. It tends to come when I eat too many nuts , especially almonds and almond butter. This may sound weird but it makes my heart race like 60. Not a good feeling at all. Thanks again for the reply, Take care.

I actually also get a rapid heartbeat from certain foods. When i ate cooked foods it was from carbohydrates. I have had it occasionally since eating raw.
Cashews will cause it, and I am guessing that it might be because they are not really raw. This is interesting. I thought i was the only one who experienced this. Are you soaking your almonds? that may help. Perhaps it is an allergy? I'm only guessing.This may need more research!

Sometimes it happens when I soak them and sometimes not. It also sometimes happens with hemp oil taken right off the spoon and hemp nut butter as well. Not quite sure but I am confident that I will figure it all out as time passes.

May I suggest looking into 'liquid chlorophyll’? I put about 2 tablespoons of it into a 1.5L bottle of water and drink that in the first few hrs upon rising. It really alkalises the body.

Also I read that the best was to test for a food sensitivity is to measure your pulse 20mins after ingesting a food... so that might be saying something about a sensitivity to cashews.. The pulse is raised because the white blood cells are rushing to destroy the little components of the food that enter the blood or something along those lines… that what they look for under microscope when doing live blood analysis.

Hi Klarissa;
Thanks for the advise. I will give it a try.

I have noticed that I test more alkaline when eating nuts than after veggie or fruit meals. This is using the PH strips. Anyone else notice this?

I remember reading in one of Gabriel Cousens' books that some people need more fruits and veggies to be alkaline. Others need more nuts and seeds to be alkaline.

What do you all think?

Not at all. I do tons of greens and this keeps me alkaline. Doing exercise and deep breathing also helps me to stay alkaline and relaxed.
You can still eat acid forming foods and stay alkaline as long as they are balanced out by alkaline foods. For example, eat some greens with your nuts/seeds and you'll be set.
Another easy way to alkalize is to put lemon juice in all your drinking water.

Thanks RS....I appreciate the info..

What I was focusing on was that some individuals (I think Cousens calls them parasympathizers or fast oxidizers....can't remember which) actually work differently in that greens and fruits create more acid and nuts and seeds are more alkalining. I find that seems to be the case when I test with PH strips.
