In my 6 months of raw I have never done anything with sprouts, I think its about time! There are so many things that I want to make that call for sprouts.
So I think I would like to try some sunflowers today but I am still unclear about a few things:

I understand how the proccess goes, but after they have sprouted, you put them in the fridge.. you leave them in the jar right? do they stop growing because of the cold? How long will they last?
And when you are read to eat them do you pick the sprout off or use the whole bean/seed part?
No I have never had any kind of sprouts before! :p

Are you using hulled or whole sunflower seeds? I would not sprout unhulled sunflower seeds in a jar. It's a personal preference.

They will continue to grow very slowly in the fridge. You can keep them in a colander loosely covered with a plastic bag or in a sprouting jar. Rinse them once a day and drain well when keeping them in the fridge. I do not know how long they will last because I generally continue sprouting mine until I want to eat them.

You may eat the whole sprout, "root" and all. I take off the hulls before eating them, but they are edible and some people like the eatra crispy texture.

I have sprouted sunflower seeds in a flat tray hydroponically [as opposed to a jar]. It is easier to cull the hulls this way. Easier still if you use soil because many of the hulls will remain below soil level so you can just cut off the greens and compost the hulls and root. I have never sprouted hulled seeds.
