Hi, everyone -- so happy to have found you over 50's! I've been raw fooding for about 1.5 weeks now. I aim for 70-80% raw each day (100% just really isn't practical for me -- though I admire those of you who do 100%).
Here's what brought me to raw food:
I've always been very healthy -- and very interested in health and how to stay out of the doctor's office. Don't get me started on healthcare in America! Modern American medicine is great for emergencies and trauma, but when it comes to disease treatment and prevention, well, I think we've got it "wronger" than anybody. In my opinion, doctors seem to treat the symptoms and don't much care about getting to the cause and fixing the problem once and for all. The one thing I do know is it's going to be up to us to take care of ourselves as we age. For me, blind trust in doctors won't get me to where I want to be as I age -- I intend to remain vital and active up until it's time to exit stage left.
Another thing is . . . I've been vegetarian for 14 years, mostly vegan for the last few months. But the weight still wasn't budging -- it is so hard to lose it at this age! But I've lost four pounds since starting the raw food thing 1.5 weeks ago. The thing is, my daughters tell me I don't look my age, but if I could lose the weight, I know I'd look so much better -- and YOUNGER.
I won't lie -- I want to look younger. LOL! And I think raw food is going to be just the way to go.
At any rate, so glad to have found this board, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you. I've been lurking awhile, and you've already inspired me!
Oh and P.S. I'm absolutely open to any and all tips and advice! Let 'er rip, potater chip!! :D
