Okay, this may seem like a strange question.... But, I have read many different things strongly promoting the high protein/low carb thing. And, I have friends who have had tremendous weight loss results w/this, especially where the stomach is concerned....

How could you incorporate that w/raw foods?

Thanks!

You wouldn't. The raw food program is a healthy/healing lifestlye. Although many find themselves losing weight it's because they are becoming healthier in totality. It is NOT about a high/protein, low-carb, stop-when-you've-lost -enough-weight diet.

I do believe this has come up previously if you'll do the search.

*keeps big mouf shet and doesn't say what she's REALLY wanting to say!* :p

I don't know that you could do a raw high protein/low carb diet. I guess you could eat lots of sashimi and raw dairy dairy products, but I don't really see anyone doing that. Those diets discourage fruit because they're high carb, and lots of raw fruit is a big part of a raw diet.

I suppose one could do a high protein/low carb diet and enhance it with some raw foods, eating lots of salads and raw veggies as a side to grilled fish or chicken. To be honest, I don't see how anyone could be healthy eating a lot of cheese, eggs and meat, even if they had veggies on the side. But I guess it'd be healthier than pasta, cookies, pizza and frozen dinners. And I guess someone whose problems stem from gluten intolerance would feel much better on that kind of a diet.

For that matter, it's the kind of diet recommended for people with candida.

Hi,

A truly good question.

Well, I grew up with the PRE-Atkins diet. of "Calories Don't Count"

Basically you were allowed 5 grams of carbs a day (YES, I said 5) and all the fats and meat and eggs and cheese you wanted. NO fruits except watermelon, and only green beans, brussels sprouts, brocolli, and that's about it on the veggies.

I lived on this from the time I was about 8 until In my teens, then a little on and off and on and off again.

I was thin, only I didn't know it, because I was always "ON" a diet.

The biggest challenge with this diet, is that you put your body in ketosis, where you are actually killing yourself from the inside out, and the Doctor who wrote the book actually went to Jail, because of conflict of interest, about wanting to sell his "Safflower Oil" pills and recommending them in this diet.

This is a diet where just about the only flavor you have is salt.

Trust me you are always constipated, and feel terrible, I was sleeping 12 to 16 hours a day, and I would have a BM about once a week or so, I won't get into the details, but it was extremely painful, but I knew no other way.

I was actually in my 20's before I ever had a slice of pizza.

So, although you can get and stay thin on this diet, it is terrible for you, and your body, and your hair, and skin etc.

NOW, the raw vegan life style that is the way to live, you actually have easy BM's about 3 or 4 (sometimes more) a day, you sleep about 4 to 6 hours a night, your feel great, your skin glows, you have no pimples, your hair is shiny and beautiful, and your body does not smell, (BO) or otherwise.

Also, if you think about eating either fresh whole fruits and veggies, as a natural meal for humans, or eating only processes milk products, like cheese, yogurt (with no fruit) milk, cream, and meat all cooked with salt, well, it just doesn't seem very natural to me.

I suppose growing up with this Pre-Atkins super strict diet, and now learning about this lifestyle plan of fresh and living foods, I would definitely choose the raw foods, just because it "feels" right.

So, although anything could be possible, and you could eat alot of protein, in almonds, nuts etc. Why?

Because on the Raw lfiestyle there is NO dieting, no counting calories, no weighing foods, no portion control, no pills, no patches, no gimmicks.

You eat as much fruits, veggies, greens, nuts as you want, anytime you want, and that's it.

You can make gourmet recipes or not, it is up to you.

But if you want to eat Carob nut cookies for breakfast and lunch and dinner, you can. NO Guilt.

It is okay, to eat 20 bananas if you like, or a whole pineapple in one sitting.

My hubby brought me home some cherries a 3 lb bag, and I sat down and ate at least 1/2 of them, in one sitting, then he brought me in a bowl of raspberries, and I ate that too.

But that is all I wanted, so that was my dinner.

Hope this answer helps with your question.

I actually did a vegetarian low carb diet before raw (I was always sick and bloated from nuts), and put on a bunch of weight ,then I BECAME RAW and lost weight , felt great and Im not interested in even trying that lo- carb junk - WAY too many processed gut cloging foods ,i.m.o.

however dr. atkins and his low carb peers did have a point about the sugar/white/refined junk thats found EVERY WHERE , and in that respect raw offers a solution - only sugar from natural and unrefined (unless you juice) places!

so raw has the best of both worlds!!!! :D

I have totally lost stomach fat since eating just 85% raw. Just the fact that you are cleaning out your intestines, and colon will make a huge difference on digestion and the appearance of the belly. You can't go wrong with fruits and veggies.

the whole point to a raw food way of life is to have the body in an alkaline state..... (healthy) atkins, south beach etc.... is low carb high protein diet which makes the body acidic. something called ketosis happens and your body eats stored fat.... very hard on the kidneys and we need them guys in good working order. when the body becomes too acidic something called ketoacidosis happens and that eats at your organs, muscle tissue etc... (extreme case)
i may be new at raw but i understand a and p quite well :)

When researching nutrition, I always want to see what long term affects are, so I look at the physical health of the people who start the diets. If you saw Dr. Atkins before he died, he was proof enough the diet is unhealthful. He was 71, the same age as my mother at the time. He looked 20 years older than her. Thirty years eating all that fat and protien had poisened his body. That was proof enough that no matter how quick you lose weight on that diet you would pay for it in a big way later. I know I have a thing for Jack LaLanne, but he eats at least 10 raw fruits and vegetables a day and for 90 he looks twenty years younger than Atkins did at 71.
