I am looking into growing wheat grass to juice in my greenstar. I have several trays, organic soil and minerals, wheat, and some instructions I printed from wheatgrassman.com

My husband is very concerned about the space it is going to take. He has agreed to build me a few shelves in the garage (!) by the window, where of course it will be much too hot come summer. He is definitely not fond of me having stacks of trays in the dining room or something. Thinks I'm too weird already and likes to look "normal" for the neighbors i guess :-) I imagine some sort of baker's rack in the dining room and coming up with a system to keep the kids out of the soil.

What have you wheatgrass juicers done? We have a good kitchen but there is no room what with the juicer, cuisinart, vitamix, and my work space. I can't imagine anyone having room for so much grass. Help!

How did you find a supplier? I have never seen it for sale except in ridiculopusly small containers. I want to drink at least a couple oz/day and think it would probably cost me a lot more to buy it than grow it but I would need to compare if that's even a possibility for me..

How large is the container?

I can get a decent sized flat, but it is $21 each. I hesitated because of the cost.

Little do her unsuspecting neighbors know (shsss....she even grows pea shoots!)

I am guilty! I have done it and will do it again soon. I moved to a new house and the dining room in this house has even better lighting. Otherwise I only use it for 2 hoidays.

It is so easy to grow your own wheat grass. I always had too much, and just put it in the compost. One thing I did realized at first was that I needed a fan to gently blow air in the room so that they would not mold. I learned it at Hippocrates in Florida and then got my seed eventually from Sproutman.
Pea sprouts are easy too.
Also, once it gets to the right maturity to harvest it, you can store it in a zippy in the fridge for a few days.
At first it is a challenge to get the timing right for when to start the next tray of seeds so that you always have one just maturing. But you will learn as you go along.
Best wishes on your green thumb!
Hugs,
Terri

Terri,
You are too funny! I am going to have to read that to my husband to show him I'm not the only one out there with the dining room idea :-)

I have two FreshLife Sprouters that I use. They don't take up much space. And they are pretty with their greenery growing...
