Are they heat treated before freezing. I would like to make dh some wasabi peas- the ones in the store are roasted and with soy oil.. I thought I could dehydrate them until crispy.. it would be cheaper to use frozen but I won't if they are heat treated.
thanks, debra

You could contact the company that packages them, but I think all veggies are blanched before they're frozen -- it helps them hold their color and I think it helps the texture, too. So they're basically cooked. Many frozen fruits are treated this way, too, though there are some brands that don't -- there was a thread here a while back about which ones.

I'm not a dehydrating expert-but my guess is that they would be like green raisins...

They're all blanched as far as I know. I buy them b/c my family loves em and I eat em by just rinsing them under water to thaw out, but I know they aren't truly raw.

PS though...there is a totally rawkin company that sells dried veggies and fruit in small plastic containers...they can be found at Whole Foods and other HFS...they have peas and everything that they sell is raw! They don't advertise them that way but I contacted the company and they are. Wish I could remember the name of em. They're amazing.
