Aside from all the benefits I know I can reap from this diet. I am actually here because I have depression, anxiety and speech disorder I have done a lot of research on brain function and food. This might sound weird and out of place but I’m still going to go ahead with this. I feel very positive at this point as I have had improvements in the past when eliminating certain foods.

I would be interested to know and anyone here has used this lifestyle to improve mental health?

my depression has lifted and I feel more centered. 2 of my dc are autistic, and altho he is not 100% one of my boys has pretty much recovered being high raw and gluten/dairy free. He is going to go 100% this summer and try to get off his med. (I'm waiting until then in case detox is terrible. )

Welcome Klarissa.....love the name....yeah, I have a daughter named Karissa and at Christmas time we call her Karissamas. I've wondered the same thing about how this way of eating might help with mental health because I have a brother who suffers with a mental disorder. Good Luck.

Yes! Most definately. I was diagnosed with depression after experiencing some life changing events. Raw foods definately healed me by healing the imbalances in my system. I still fluctuate, but I believe it's just the normal emotional changes now that most of us experience simply living. Although I can honestly say I'm generally always in good spirits and happy these days. I think you're in for an exciting change. Welcome and best wishes on your journey.

Love,
Crystal

I've suffered with up and down anxiety/depression since I was 6 or 7 years old (can you believe it!) I'm doing a lot of different things to strengthen myself, including eating raw. Since starting raw approximately 6 weeks ago, I've cut my medication by a third (60 mg to 40 mg of Celexa). I'm still very wary of coming off too fast because I know withdrawal to this stuff is very strong, and I need to really built myself up. My goal is to be by 20 mg this summer and see how it goes.
Starting raw was such a positive step for how I felt. Not only am I getting the superior nutrition that my body NEEDS but psychologically, I see that I'm strong and capable of nurturing myself (instead of being needy for someone else to do it for me).
It's also prompted me to start exercising for 20-30 minutes 5-6 days a week, something I've never kept up before. I rebound and use my elliptical because it's still pretty cold here for walking outside.
I just have this mindset now that I want to give myself the best and not settle for anything less. I've been reading really positive, action-oriented books to inspire myself (i.e. Anthony Robbins, Debbie Ford) and turning my thinking around.
My resolve is to take the best care of myself so I have an optimal self to offer to my Creator, my husband and my two beautiful kids. And what a wonderful life to enjoy for ME, too!

I can add that since making raw choices, i stopped taking anti depressants and I can say I feel...mentally....so much better...i would say that there is for sure, some mental clarity due to food choice...yes!!! :)

Hello!
I too find myself mentally clearer and much more prone to joyfulness since being raw.
Also, I get really creative when I am raw. Creativity just flows from me!
Many blessings to you,
hugs,
Terri

thank you everyone. We are just comming to winter so it's going to be a little diffucult ONLY BECAUSE my parents will notice. However my 'stuttering' is my main focal point here and i really hope to eliviate it through this lifestyle.

Welcome Klarissa!
I've been depressed/anxious of late,so you're not alone-a lot of us in the same boat.
You're definitely in the right place.
This is a wonderfully supportive environment to be in, with a lot of great folks.:)
I wish you the best.

Hi, Klarissa. I totally believe you have what it take to overcome depression and anxiety and stuttering. Whether it's the food you eat or some other means that is within you, you can do it. It is possible. I used to suffer from severe depression and anxiety. No kidding, it was bad beyond what I am willing to describe here. I managed to get rid of the depression (for good) through lots of meditation and introspection. It also reduced the anxiety by about 80%. That is what worked for me. I did not do therapy and I did not do medication for these things. Like I said, the depression is gone. Something that was with me for over half my life is just gone! I have conquered it. Coincidentially, I think my method of dealing with the depression, i.e., quiet abiding meditation coupled with introspection, set me up to go raw and put this information and life lifestyle in my awareness in such a way that I would pay attention to it. So for me, eating raw food and meditating, etc., doing some sort of spiritual practice, go hand in hand.

I wish you the best Klarissa. I really do feel you will find your way out depression, stuttering, anxiety.

Just wanted to add that I once saw an episode on Discovery Health. I think it was about tourettes. Anyway, among the people featured was one man who stuttered. The researchers were trying an experimental therapy where they fitting his ear with a hearing aid like device. The device would repeat into the man's ear everything he just said, but with like a 3 second delay. Sort of like when your talking to someone on a cell phone, and your on your cell phone, and you can hear yourself talking with a time delay. For most people, that just confuses us and screws the whole conversation up. But for this man, who had a bad case of stuttering, it cured him (at least a portrayed on DH channel). It was really remarkable. There's got to be a neurologist out there that knows about that sort of technology and wants to try it out on their own patients. Just a thought.

In telling you this, I don't mean to discourage you from going raw. By all means, if you have been lead to the raw way of life, then you probably need to be in this way of life regardless and maybe for reasons that are not readily apparent to you. Definitely stop cooking to the extent you can. But look into getting that device if you want to as well. Maybe it could help you.
