I am on a well for the first time in my life and am trying to research the quality of and concerns with well water.
Anyone out there on a well that could share any info on this?

Glendale's water supply is from wells. I use a purifier. They still have to add stuff to make it "drinkable".

We have a private well. It has terribly hard water so we also had to buy a softener. The water quality was awful! We bought reverse osmosis and a TDS tester and our water quality is great now. We do need to change our filters every 3 months or so and I am thinking about also getting a small distiller.

I think well water blows away city water! Wish I had a well!

One would like to think yet, not true unless it's one's own well and one knows if it's drinking water and such. Anymore, most water is terribly polluted. Not sure if anywhere in the States there's actually pure drinking water that doesn't need to be filtered.

our well water is SO nasty !!!!
Houston water was much better (even then we had a filter),now I drink perrier and wont consider our water ,supposedly the old cemetary (a few miles away) has contaminated local water supplies -YUCK!

I was just reading about water yesterday after considering a distiller. Apparently distilled water ain't all it's cracked up to be. It actually leaches minerals from the body and has an acidic effect on the body. Here's one of the articles I found that explains it better than I.:

I am currently reasearching water ozonators. Again from what I've read it appears that pre-filtered [not purified, but carbon filtered], ozonated water is the healthiest to consume. The minerals remain but all bacteria is killed and oxygen content increased.

It really all depends on what you read and choose to believe ;) Here is the flip side:

Has anyone here tried the products from www.phisciences.com? The mega hydrate or the Crystal Energy to be exact. I've heard the guy who invented them on the radio, and it was extremely interesting...

Hi,
I live in the mountains, and we have a 350 foot deep artesian well.
There are 45 of us on this well, so it is a pretty big one.
The water is sooooo pure and clear, I have people who come out with their own bottles just to get some of it.
Because it has 5 or more people on the well, in WA state (not sure about other states) it MUST be tested every 30 days by the state.
The water company has to keep this info on file for all well recipients. so you might ask your water company to show you the statistics, or call you state about any testing that has been done.
I personally love well water, because I used to work for Tacoma Public Utilities, and I KNOW what is in the water system, (I will NEVER drink Tacoma water again) Trust me you wouldn't believe me if I told you.
Anyway, well water can be the most glorious, fesh and pure water around, however the more populated the area, the more chance of contamination.
I live in an area, where 100 years ago there was no one, and 10 years ago there was only a few, now our actual town, which is 10 miles away, has 4 stop lights.
So we are still very rural.
I would check with your state, and see what they have to say.

Thanks for your replies everyone.
RawPriestess~ we live in about 2 miles outside of a town of 3500 people in the forest on a 100 year floodplain. There are 2 other properties near us-no new wells or septic systems are allowed to be put in here now because of the flood plain status.
I spoke with a company that was out here on private contract from the landlord preparing to put in a new septic system. He told me the water here is the second purest in the USA. ( who knows there)
Anyways-I DO believe you about Tacoma water. When Chris lived in Bremerton he had many calls from the city advising him to boil the water for the time being. ack.
So-what state department do I go about contacting to inquire about my water?
Thanks as always
Warmly~

HUMMMM---
You might try the state Utility board, or the EPA, or the Water Quality board, depending on what they call themselves there.
I'm sorry I can't be of any more help.
