I'm sorry but the fact that the Master Cleanse calls for maple syrup really bothers me. Maple syrup is not raw as far as I know. Are there any raw brands? Otherwise, can honey replace the maple syrup?

I agree. So does Alissa. She discusses this with Revvell in one of her Rawkin' Radio shows. I (personally) feel this is not a natural cleansing the Master Cleanse. It's a down and dirty (pun intended) washout, but I feel it's harsh on one's body. You go from eating SAD/CRAP to thoroughly cleansing your system out. So anything (once again - my opinion - sheesh, I feel like Simon Cowle), but I feel that anything then your body takes in - it's going to hoard it and store it as fat, thinking it may be flushed out again.
I wouldn't do a master cleanse - too drastic...but lots do it and swear by it.
I don't use maple syrup for anything nor do I use honey. Can't help 'ya there.

K. I won't do it. I appreciate your input. I may do a juice fast. On a juice fast, is there a method you should follow or do you just juice whatever you want whenever you want and drink?

Actually, I have some raw maple syrup in my fridge.
It's Western Family and it says "100% Pure Raw Maple Syrup"
ETA: I'm not sure if that helps you or not, just wanted to put out there that raw syrup does exist.

Well.. like you say ... for every opinion... there is an opposite opinion!!
Maple syrup is used because it still has micronutrients in it that feed the cells and the body...
and ..well.. as ya'll know - I'm one of those that SWEARS by it...
just as Veganforlife has her greensmoothies... and she swears by them...
I absolutely believe that the Master Cleanse is good for me... and has helped me quit smoking... quit drinking gallons of alcohol ....
and combined with raw foods ... It has helped me immensely.
we could argue and argue about honey and agave and miso and Nama Shoyu and Braggs many other things that many raw food gurus use that are questionable...
so... do your research... make an informed decision and trust your intuition..!!
and btw... the Master Cleanse can be done with honey. I've done it myself - I just found that I get hungry when I use the honey rather than the Maple syrup...
good luck!!

I use the raw blue agave instead of the MS. From my understanding it is just as effective.....

I so agree with Star Fire. I personally, this is just ME, just MY opinion - for ME I would not do a fast of any kind. I feel it is too hard on one's body. But to each their own... ;)

Okay, thanks everyone!! I'm been back and forth with this issue for quite some time. It's probably getting annoying to StarFire :o lol I may try getting my hands on some raw maple syrup and giving this a try. What's the worst that could happen? I stop after a few days and am no worse or better off than I am now? Maybe just a little more knowledgable about the MC.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/laugh.gif .... seriously ... it's not!! I think it is sooo important to be really comfortable with your decision - so to ask questions is a very good thing!
Let me tell you ... oh my goodness... when i was a newbie - I asked soo many questions... and Im sure some of those that had been on this journey for a long time had a good laugh or two at my panic!! Like the first time I soaked flax seed and it turned into a gooey - oooey mess... :D .... I totally freaked!!
and some very loving and very kind rawbies responded to my questions -- calmed me down and helped me out! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/smiley_consoling.gif
better to ask and feel at peace with the direction you are going in... THAT'S the most imporatant thing! AND RAWSINGER... that's what this forum is for... to ask -- to get feedback -- to get support!! so ... never be concerned about asking ANY question!! Ookay!!

I think it's so important to make your own decisions based on research, listening to others in terms of their experience and trusting your own intuition. There is never one "right way" to do anything in my opinion. I hear what both Lucy and Starfire are saying...both raise very valid points to consider.
I will just share my experience with the MC. I came to it after researching ways to jump start my healing process. And although we steer clear of discussing our spiritual beliefs, God brought me to it. My body was trashed and in an extreme state of healing crisis when I found the MC. I had gotten used to pain and suffering, so doing a fast was actually a piece of (raw) cake:D for me. And it helped me clear out 2 years of liver damage before I began eating raw foods. It was not extreme to my body at all as it had already experienced "extreme". Fasting works for some and doesn't work for others more than likely. I try not impose my beliefs on others regarding the MC, I understand the arguments against it, but I don't personally believe these arguments. However, I still respect those who have differing opinions. To me it's still a natural, effective way towards healing one's self. And for me it works well complimenting my raw food lifestyle. Until such time that I find a more effective cleanse or graduate to a true water fast, then I will continue to utilize it.
Just my opinion.
Why is there a section for master cleanse on this forum if it's not supported 100%? This question doesn't have to be answered, I'm just merely curious.
Thank you,
Crystal
