So...I really dislike using deodorant. Even the so-called natural brands aren't great; they're laden with unnatural ingredients. When I started out on this board, I remember a post about apple cider vinegar being a natural deodorant and I've been using that. It actually works great, believe it or not! Make sure not to put it on right after shaving b/c it really burns!! Anyway, I'm looking for other ideas too b/c I like to use different things every so often and I'm out of ideas.

Eating 100% raw and green smoothies - no, not under your arms - drinking them.:p

I don't use any deodorant...

Maybe in time I will not be smelly, but for now I still am. I'm a very very sweaty person in general. I'll be patient I guess...only been 98+% this time around since January.

me too! the sweatiness that is. :p Although after my martial arts practice yesterday, i wasn't sweating at all. i thought that was weird.

i went from baking soda (allergic rxn to that) and then the crystal. it seems to work ok. i have acv and EOs but have not use them for that purpose yet... i'll experiment with those one day perhaps. :p

How about this idea: dab some EO's onto a cotton ball and tuck that into your bra down the front and/or under the band going along your underarm?

Do you apply the ACV full-strength to your pits or dilute it?

Full strength with a cotton ball. :)

Filling a spray bottle with your deoderant alternative (ACV, etc.) will help save cotton balls. I find it more convenient, anyway.

Virgin coconut oil works for me as a deodorant. There is little that coconut oil can't do! If I'm going to be out all day chasing my kids and going to the gym, then I use one of those mineral rocks after showering, then when that's dry rub in the coconut oil. In Bruce Fife's "Coconut Cures" he suggests that after bathing you restore your pH by misting with diluted ACV. THen when you are dry moisturize with coconut oil. I did this for several days back when I had smelly feet :-) and have not had to do it since, although I still use the CO often because it keeps my heels soft.

There are several mineral salt crystal deodorants on the market as well. The great thing about them is they last for a very long time. I can use one stick twice a day for 3 years and it cost me $6. It is hypoallergenic and has no aluminum dioxides or whatever like most regular deodorants and is more environmentally friendly since you are not throwing away more plastic every couple of months or however long your current deodorant lasts.

Most (if not all) of those salt crystal deodorants actually do have aluminum in them.

Natural aluminum is not harmful. Alum (natural aluminum) is actually used to purify water. Processed aluminums (aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum zirconium)are dangerous because they contain very small molecules which can clog pours and penetrate the skin and end up in the bloodstream.

If you do switch to a natural deodorant, you need to "prep your pits" to make sure it works effectively... here's how: http://clumpsofmascara.com/2011/09/naturally-fresh-crystal-deodorant.html
