I've read on a few blogs how people use paint strainer bags instead of nutmilk bags because they're the same material/look/ect... I couldn't find any nutmilk bags in town and I didn't want to wait to order them so I went to Home Depot and bought a pack of 2 paint strainer bags for $2, and opened them, they are just like nut milk bags!
Look at the comparison, nut milk bag on the left, paint strainer bag on the right...
Makes me wish I knew that before I forked up the dough for the nut mylk bag!

I just commented on another thread how you can find better prices sometimes on the same or similiar items when your not buying them from a vendor that is directly marketing to you from a nutrition/ vegan/ raw stand point.
Found a great sprouter on a kids gardening website that I will be ordering. It'a about a third the price of others http://www.kidsgardeningstore.com (http://www.kidsgardeningstore.com/) .
I don't make nut milk often and I never strain it when I do. I guess it's because I always end up using the nut milk in a smoothie so....
But anyway I thought that if I ever did want to strain it then I was just going to use a knee high stocking or a pair of panty hose.:D
But hmmm even a paint strainer is cheaper than a pair of hose!

Good info, thanks! I saw some nut bags for $4 each and thought that was cheap, but this is much better. I'm going to Home Depot.

Why not sprout also in the "nut" milk bag? I remember one of the chefs saying they can just hang sprouts that way and rinse easy. Anyone want to try? Thanks for heads up on the bag price and Home Depot. Maybe that's where they all came from at $9ish originally and just resold to others. I only bought one long time ago and hardly used.

Great profit for a trip to store or savings if we read t his before hand. I only bought one long time ago online from chef and hardly used.
I assume paint department too.

Thanks for that! I haven't been able to find a nutmilk bag, so I have a produce bag with is similar, I think...BUT! it was like $6!
Home Depot, here I come. I actually learned from a post about a great tomato support thing (for growing) that is at home depot for $5.99.
Still haven't tried the cheese its! Thinking about them though......Cheers!

That's a good idea too, I've seen pictures of that, I'm going to start using these bags as a strainer too, since the one I have has holes way too big for my buckwheat and sunflower seeds!

The regular nut mylk bags last a lot longer than the paint strainers but the paint strainers are so cheap and work just as well. They have elastic at the top, intended to fit over a paint can, instead of the larger opening and drawstring of the nut mylk bag. Mine stretches perfectly over a three qt. pot. I've been using these for about two years and make almond mylk about twice a week. They last for about 6-8 uses and then the weave sort of opens a bit and the mylk gets more of the fiber back in it.

hI HARILOO,
OOPS UNLOCK CAPS
I recently purchased a nice filter bag at Lowe's in the pool supply section. It is made for pool vacuums and will fit inside a half gallon jar and fold over the top. Has a cinch cord with cord lock. I had been using it to strain my kefir grains( until I needed a paint strainer one day). Just another option over the paint strainers. It also seems to be a touch more rugged than the paint strainers I've used in the past.
