I tried using brazil nuts in place of almonds in a recipe today and it worked out just fine. They have a similar taste and density. Not sayin they could replace almonds in everything but for pates, pie crusts, taco nut meat (what I made today), they should be fine. Isn't raw food great! No problem is too big!

That's so true! You don't know how many recipes I've started out making, then ended up adding to my smoothies because I either didn't care for them, or they didn't turn out right. And one mistaken recipe becomes a creation! It's cool!

Thanks Francesca! I didn't even think of Brazil nuts. I'm going to get some tomorrow.

I just found raw Brazil nuts on sale, so because I read your post last night, I bought 4 1/2 pounds. I like them anyway and am so irritated at this almond nonsense, so thank you very much.

Nothing wrong with Brazil nuts, love 'em, and they're great for getting selenium... But you can still get unpasteurized almonds!

Alissa has some organic almonds from Spain that are unpasteurized:

and you can still get some from California (not from stores, though; only directly from farmers = The Loophole)

And I've gotta say:

Isn't raw food great! No problem is too big!
I love your attitude! :)

Glad I could be of some help! I may get some unpasteurized almonds by mail but they're kind of pricey (I don't buy organic for the most part; I know I should but I'm in college). For now I'll just stick with the Brazils, considering I'll need them to replace almonds in many recipes.
