I had posted about this on the other thread.
My skin at times had been so bad I was using Proactiv (which didn't really make it clear, but it bleached all my sheets and towels:( ) Its been a few years since I've used that, but I still always have a greasy face, and at least one pimple lurking somewhere.

I haven't made it with castor oil, I'm only using coconut oil....its been about a week...no pimples, my skin is super soft, and not nearly as greasy.

After I read about the OCM, it totally made sense, you spend all this money to strip your face of its natural oils, and then your skin goes into overdrive trying to make up for.

Rubbing the oil in is scary (the first few times :) ), but the steaming and wiping off with the wash cloth is very relaxing, and after about the 3rd or 4th time, no more oil, just soft skin.

It hasn't been long enough for me to see a crazy difference, but I can feel the difference, and I'm hooked, this is my new routine. I'm hoping the tone/color continues to even out, and with the raw food...should have fantastic skin (fingers crossed)!

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.......

I've been doing this with coconut oil as my cleansing routine at night. I have very dry skin and live in a cold, dry climate, so sometimes after washing, I put a bit more back on before bed. My skin feels very soft. I have four breakouts at the moment but I attribute that to my detoxing.

Seren I'm SO EXCITED about this! Thanks so much for posting it. I hadn't heard of it before and just now read your link ~ I'm going to start right away.

Keep posting how it works for you. I'll let you know too! :D

Hey Snoozy no problem! I was just as excited as you are to have heard about it! I've only done it once so far but I'm going to buy castor oil (and maybe sunflower oil too) when I go shopping later because I used carotina oil last night and I really don't think it was a good one to use!! lol!

I may also buy some coconut oil to use as a moisturiser.

Good luck everyone in your journey to clear skin! :p

Any thoughts on using sesame oil in place of the castor oil?? It's supposed to be good with pulling out toxins, so if it would work, I have plenty of extra since I recently stocked up for oil pulling.

I will try this later today. I'm hoping to see responses from people who have tried castor oil and/or sesame oil. If not... I might just try coconut oil for today. I buy that in bulk, too, so I definitely have some coconut oil to spare!

Eva - Im not sure, I can't even find Castor oil! Im just going to experiment. Have you heard of the new brand of oil that is out now called Carotina? Its an orange colour and is a blend of two different oils. Don't use it! It didn't work very well for me and left my face a teeny bit orange - not as in oompaloompa but still not my normal skin colour. lucky it was in the night! Anyway back to the point, as I can't find castor oil I am going to try olive oil tonight, and keep experimenting with different oils till I find one to suit me!

Everyone should post their experiences with different oils so we don't all have to try them all :)

And Snoozy -- I will look out for your experience with the castor oil! :)

Haven't done it yet... and truth be told, my skin is pretty nice but I feel like I do enough of the right things that I deserve perfectly dewy and exceptional skin!!! ;) Sooo... that said, I'm about to go try this with just coconut oil. I'll update on my experience in a bit!

Ok, last night I used Sesame Oil because that was all I had. It felt nice.

Today I bought Castor Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil and make the mixture recommended on that website you posted Seren. This time, I definitely felt a difference. It was more of a tight, clean, drying feeling. I actually had to add more oil when I was done as a moisturizer (like the website said) because it felt tight.

My son is doing this with me. He has pimples all over his forehead and large blackheads on his nose. Since he's not eating raw, I figure his results will really show if this works or not.

Eva, if you don't have problem skin, you may not need the Castor Oil, I'm not sure.

Snoozy -- I have had problem skin for the last few years, but it gets progressively better the longer I'm raw and the more wacky stuff I try! I've gone from breakouts and scars ALL the time to pretty clear with a ton of bright red scars to pretty clear with lighter scars. I want skin like I had in high school. It was so fresh and vibrant and without all of these awful scars.

And I can't wait to hear about how this works for your son too! :D

So all right everyone, whatever it takes, count me in! I have tried it all, that's for sure. This will be nice to add to my very natural but "different" routine. :)

I just tried this with coconut oil, and it made my skin feel very soft and clean. I'm going to hold off on the castor oil for now. I'm tempted from hearing about Snoozy's results, but this did already feel nice with the coconut oil.

Does anyone know how often this should be done? I'm thinking 2-3 times per week will be ideal, but I'd love to hear from others!

I'm doing it every night. I work in a manufacturing facility, and always feel dirty when I get home (tractor trailers idling in the shipping department, among other things). But this weekend I waited 2 nights to do it again, and no ill effects.

The article said to do it each night. More than that would be too much.

Then each morning, just rinse your face, don't wash it.

Thanks Snoozy! I totally missed that. That's a lovely night routine, anyways!

All right... going to the store. I think I'm going to try castor oil if they have it, on second thought!

Just so you know, the molecules in coconut oil are generally too big to really be absorbed into the skin, and it's really only beneficial at all if you've got really, really dry skin. Some of the other oils suggested might be better choices for someone with oily skin...and to pull out toxins in general.

iamacranberry -- Thanks for the info. I special ordered some castor oil that should arrive by Friday. Apparently it's not possible to get sunflower seed oil around here, so I got some grapeseed oil to mix. I guess until it arrives I'll do a mix of sesame and grapeseed. :)

I just started doing this. I started with a 30:70 mix of castor oil to extra virgin olive oil (I have generally oily-combination skin). I really like the way it feels and have been following this method for the past few nights. I was actually complimented on my skin earlier today!! I bought some coconut oil today and used that instead of the blend mentioned above. Personally, I think I notice a bigger difference using the castor oil and evoo blend. Also, after reading iamacranberry's post, I think I'm going to stick with castor+olive oil. But I'm still going to use the coconut oil as an all over moisturizer because it smells soo good!

Yes, thank you for this information. I'm not trying to imply that this isn't true, but may I ask where you received this information from??

Okay, thank you very much!! I just had to know. I'm really into this oil cleansing method and wanted to make sure that I used to right oil. I have generally oily/combo skin and will stick with my blend of castor oil and extra virgin olive oil.

In the other thread - you should do this at least once daily - some said only once per day - I started last night and did again this am - am feeling a lovely face is very near! I have a few breakouts (not completely raw - but working towards it).... - I'm 48 yrs old and stll have breakouts....I am trying really hard to get to RAW - and I' know then my skin will no longer break out!!

Good luck and I can't wait to hear about the teenager!!

Snoozy, please keep us posted about your son. I'm anxious to hear how this cleansing method works for his skin. I have 4 teenagers and some of them need some skin help. Thanks!

On http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com it says to do this once a day, at night (this is when your skin absorbs moisture best and when it has time to rejuvinate).

I'm so happy to have seen this thread. I was looking for something to help my sensitive skin and I'm hoping this might work.

Do any of you that use this method have Rosacea? I do and I'm wondering if it would be okay for me? I have read that I shouldn't use water that is hot on my face.

I am a soap maker and I have lots of oils, so I can try different blends if need be.

Thanks!

Yeah, I would be very careful with the steaming part of this method. It is a crucial step though-you need to gently steam with a very warm washcloth in order to effectively remove the oil from your pores. But I don't want to say, "Yes, go ahead and do the OCM, it will be fine," because I'm just not sure. So yeah, I guess I can't answer your question. Sorry I can't be of help, but I'm sure some wise person on this forum will lend there knowledge regarding rosacea and the OCM.

Thanks Francesca,

I tried it last night before bed. I was awful nervous, but don't look any worse this morning. I didn't end up putting any extra oil on after cleansing. I wanted to see what it would be like with just the OCM. I used 15% castor and 85% sunflower.

This morning I'm going to moisturize with virgin coconut oil after splashing with water.

I'll post again in a few days after I see how it really is working for me. My face is feeling really dry now, especially around my eyes and my VCO is calling me. Off to put some on.

soapgirl: I'm very happy it didn't make things worse! I'm glad that you're moisturizing with coconut oil because I've read that it helps clear rosacea. It has cleared up my keratosis pilaris a lot (the small red inflamed hair follicles that appear on arms, legs and maybe a few others places for some people-I just have it on my arms). Good luck with everything :)

Any updates anyone?:)

I have been doing this for the past few nights. When I wash my face it seems to go well. In the morning I feel dry so I have been using VCO. After I put the VCO on, my face gets really red-kind of rashy.

My forehead has some breakouts on it. You can't see them, but I can feel them. I didn't have any blemishes before I tried this. I'm going to continue on and see if they go away.

Has anyone else had this issue with the VCO?

RawSinger, I'm happy hear the VCO has helped with your Keratosis Pilaris as I have this too. Really badon my upper arms and I have it on my thighs too. I have begun skin brushing, so I think this combination might be good for me.

I look forward to hearing others updates.

soapgirl: I did notice myself getting a lot of little breakouts on my forehead after using the VCO so I stopped using it.

Because of my last period, not staying raw, and all the stress I'm currently under, my skin went insane so I'm going back to using Proactiv because I know it works. When I've been raw for a good amount of time I may stop using it and go back to the OCM but for now, I'm just going to use it. I don't like putting chemicals on my face but I just want my skin clear. Proactiv is not the most hazardous of the bunch anyway.
