Hi Ladies,
I need some advice please. I am having such strong cravings for protien, and when I give in and have what I am craving my all day nausea lets up for a time. The trouble is that it is nothing raw!
What do you do for protien?
Avacadoes, fruit and nuts and I are not getting along right now. After I eat them I feel very ill.
Thanks, J.

What are you calling "protein"? I have no idea what a craving for a single nutrient feels like.

It is kinda different - but that is what I am feeling I need, also, all the foods that I am drawn to are all protien foods - cheese, eggs, chicken to name a few.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look up some recipes for green smoothies as I have never made a green smoothie. How do you make it?

What I suggest to folks wanting to know how to make a green smoothie is to take your favorite fruit smoothie, using whatever fruits you like say for instance, a banana and strawberries. Then take a couple baby organic spinach leaves and add. Add ice if you want it super cold and slushy, blend in a high speed blender and you've got a green smoothie. You do NOT taste the spinach.
If you use the banana up top and do a search for green smoothie recipes, you find a ton of 'em.
Here's one link to get you started:

Those are really not protein foods. As Alissa says in her book (paraphrasing), if those really gave a person protein, why do they keep needing/wanting more? It's really an addiction to those foods; not that they give protein. It's a misnomer.
What you are craving is fish, eggs, chicken... dead animal flesh and their by-products.
People have learned to use the word "protein" instead of saying what it is they are really craving.
It was very interesting to me... one day I want hiking with a man and woman. The woman quit the hike as soon as she found a bench. Said she was feeling weak. Once back in the car he's asking her ~ "do you want fruit or protein?" Huh? What he really meant was, do you want fruit or dead animals? Since what she had before the hike was coffee, she was dehydrated and actually what she needed was water.
But, I digess...
My suggestion ~ green smoothies as Lucy says. If you're still craving dead animals and their byproducts, then it's not "protein" you crave.
Let us know how that works for you, please.

Think about a big, ole 400 pound silverback gorilla.
How much of what our society has learned to call "protein" foods does he eat?
ZERO!!!
"Gorillas are predominantly herbivores, eating mostly plant material. They forage for food in the forests during the day. They eat leaves, fruit, seeds, tree bark, plant bulbs, tender plant shoots, and flowers. They have been known to eat various parts of over 200 different plant species. Occasionally, gorillas supplement their diet with termites and ants."
All plants, nuts, seeds and fruit contain protein. And by eating them raw we assimilate that protein much more readily that were we eating cooked food, whether that food was plant or flesh.
I'd like to suggest that you add good quality fat into your diet. Often when people crave animal foods they can beat it this way. My first suggestion would be to have the green smoothies with a couple spoonfuls of Udo's Oil in it EVERY DAY. (This is a vegetarian Omega 3-6-9 oil blend, you can also get it with vegetarian DHA.) Other good oils are RAW coconut oil and raw hemp oil. If it doesn't say raw, it should always say Cold Pressed.
It's true, our bodies become addicted to animal foods. But when you are getting enough greens and the right fats, the cravings seem to vanish.
Instead of nuts, try soaked and/or sprouted seeds! They don't feel as heavy as nuts in my system, they cost much less, and you can substitute them for nuts in many recipes (especially the pates!).
Good luck and keep reading about raw, as much as you can. You'll see how brainwashed the world is by the meat and dairy industry.

I must admit I have not been able to maintain raw veganism when pregnant or lactating. Some women can and feel good being pregnant and raw vegan or vegan. Some women do not.
I think it is important to support each other in our strive for ideal diet. But I think it is important to also be compassionate to each other if someone is unable to head the calling of raw veganism during a very physically demanding stage in their life.

Hi,
Thanks for the ideas for smoothies. I have only been able to have a little bit of pineapple for now. All other fruits increase the nausea.
A friend gave me some hemp hearts the other day ~ they are doing the trick.... I am not having cravings like I did before. I also sat down the other night with a box of fresh spinach leaves. I ate almost the whole thing!!! Anyways, I felt so much better after that, so I will continue with the spinach and hemp hearts for now.
I am getting reminders of how it is to be pregnant almost everyday. :D I had a salad with lettuce and remembered how lettuce is one of the few things that gives me heartburn when I am pregos. My clothes are tight on me already and I am showing which pleases our 10yod & 8 yos.
