We have a family of six. I'm not sure whether to buy the dehydrator with 5 or 9 trays. Please help!

Nine. I recommend that for a family of 1.

Ditto. Mine is 5 trays and I could see myself using it nonstop if I were feeding a family.

We are just 2 adults and bought 9 tray. With your army you may find 9 more useful in time too. Granola, more granola, pizza, calzones, burgers and the like that the kids would love and you can store some crusts too.
Make sure you get some teflex or other sheets for smooth items that don't want to seep through the holes of the other type of sheets. I think there was talk of another kind of sheets besides teflex, so maybe some will share now.

I know Alissa sells them but do you know of any "store" that carries them? I know Bed, Bath & Beyond doesn't.
As far as I know, they do not sell at any department store.

Check with Excalibur. Ask if they've got retail outlets. I don't think they have yet, wouldn't bet on it.

Plus, Alissa has the best price online that I could find (last October when I bought mine.) I liked knowing that I was buying it from someone I trusted.
Nine trays are best so that you can do many things at once. I dont like to run my dehydrator all the time so with nine trays I can make my granola, a couple of pizza crusts, some flax crackers, dried fruit, and some cookies all at once. I sure couldnt fit all of that in a stove at one time:D !!

I have a family of four with a nine tray. Everything goes so quickly in my family even with a nine tray!

I'm the only one in my family raw at the moment, and I have a 9 tray....worth it.
And definitely buy from Alissa...I didn't, found a "cheaper" price online, but mine didn't come with the paraflexx sheets, and now I have to spend more money than her's would have cost to just buy a few of the sheets.
I've learned my lesson...Alissa gets my business every time now!

I would go with a 9 tray. Even if you don't use the whole space, you aren't heating up that much more space than if you had the smaller model. The other day I made four trays of flax crackers, and two trays of corn crackers - and that's just for one person! However, it should last me a few weeks. The day following I made some cookies, and if I had some extra bananas around I would have thrown them in at the same time too to use up some extra trays.

I would say 9 because even if it's just you, if you find a good produce buy, or overstock on your garden, ect. all you have to do is dry them. I got bags and bags and bags of free tomatoes from a farm here, and took them home, sliced them in my FP, and dehydrated them for recipies!!
The 9 tray is SOO worth it!!

9 tray definitely. You won't be sorry. It's just me and I am so glad I did! ;)

What did you pay for a 9 tray dehydrater? I can get mine for $219. Is that a good price or not? Thanks Suzy;)
