Just wondering, I'm partial to cherries and cranberries, but everyone seems to be on the goji train so I'm wondering what I'm missing!

They taste like life!
I love 'em! To me they have a bit of a bite to them and are somewhat tart. I've only had them dried. Others I've heard have soaked them.

They taste like old dried cranberries dipped in sweat. At least, the ones I've had do. I'm not a fan!

they're yummy and delicious and good for so many recipes. they're extremely potent in nutrients compared to the basic dried fruits at the health store.... so if they don't taste as sugary and sweet that's why. they're definitely a superfood.

They are kind of bitter and dull in my opinion but...that doesn't mean I don't EAT em! I buy em all the time cuz they do taste healthy. They're just not something you think about like...oh man, you know what sounds good? Some delicious goji berries.
Nah...definitely not, imo. But still...try em!

Though I know many are, I am not a goji berry fan.:p

I like them, Its probably because they have protein and have benefits. They taste weird but I convinced myself to like them.

keep in mind too that you might not like one brand but you might like another. so my advice is to try a few different brands and see. personally i do like them and agree that they are a little sweeter than cranberries but not as sweet as raisins. very good though.

I bought 2 different brands. One is much better than the other. So, one I ate by the handful and the other I threw in my smoothies!

Sometimes my hfs will have samples. Ask!

Definitely do try different brands if you are able. I believe we've finally found one that we really like. The berries are not rock hard and shriveled like several of the brands we tried in the past, plus these are much more sweet and smell like...well, berries. One batch from a fairly reputable company smelled like smoked wood chips and tasted as such (though we've never actually eaten any wood chips, so we could only imagine by how they smelled :p). The gojis we use now make everything we add them to even yummier. The flavor is cross between a golden raisin and a dried cranberry, however that may be subjective. Eating them straight by the palmful is not a problem!

...the eraser and sweat references were just too hilarious :D

the only ones I have ever tried... ok only tried one brand and was turned off... tasted yucky and I was so disappointed because they're not cheap!! I'll have to try another brand I guess!

LOL! :D

I also find that if I eat any more than a handful per day, they don't do my bowels much good! I'll say no more on that... ;)

Yes, that's exactly how I would describe them, Cathy. It's as though they are sweet and tarte, at one and the same time, I think :)

They taste rather different if you soak them overnight. Much, much milder flavour.

A word of caution - I saw some red berries in my local Chinese supermarket and although I'm certain they were from the same family as the Goji, they tasted much, much, less sweet and more savoury. While I suspect they pack a similar nutritional punch, they are not as enjoyable and if one were to try these and assume they are the same as true Gojis, they might dismiss Gojis unfairly. Addiitonally, it is important to be aware of the fact that the Chinese government does not prohibit the use of many of the insecticides that have been banned in other parts of the world (e.g. D.D.T.). Consequently, one should carefully consider the source and whether they are 'wild', organic farmed, or conventionally farmed, since they are grown in massive numbers in China, meaning a great deal of the international 'goji' berry market is supplied by China. Add that to the fact that goji berries are incredibly small. Small berries means greater surface area for a given weight of berries - greater surface area means higher probable concentrations of pesticides.

None of this stops me from eating goji berries but I do think more carefully about where and what I buy.

I'm not a goji fan either--I eat them, I just don't like them.
I throw them in my smoothies so I don't have to taste them. They are bland and earthy, at least the brands I've tried.

Will those of you who have found tasty brands please share what you're buying? I'd love to be liberated from the bland, eraser-esque experience I"m now having.

They reacted to the mercury fillings when I had them. Then, they tasted horrible because the metal clashed with the berry acid and there was a strong metal aftertaste, yuckky. So, if you have metal fillings, beware. Now that the metal is gone, they taste like the berries are cranberries and raisons combined. Very good.

You know that "smell" in the supplement section of a health food store? Goji berries taste just like that smell. I suppose it is an acquired taste, one which I have not acquired.

Lol!! I agree! Bleurgh!

Although, if you soak them and eat them with other things they're not as bad!

I love goji berries...... But I didn't really love them until I did a 12 mile hike (Na Pali coast of Kauai), eating only goji berries and fruit I found a long the way (wow that was very raw food of me and I wasn't even trying then)... A little goes a long way for energy... they truly are a superfood... Yes some brands are way better than others, you have to get the squishy ones, the squishier the better.... The hard ones are really bad.... Alohas

Some facts. Gojiberries are a rich source of antioxidants and nutrients, 33 minerals, 18 amino acids , high in zeaxanthin, beta carotene, riboflavin and selenum. They have been found in studies to inhibit the growth of cancerous cells, help your body to produce natural antioxidants, balance blood sugar levels, prevent heart disease, and promote healthy digestion.

goji berries have 500 times more Vitamin C than an orange. Remember that. No, I've never tried them. I would if I could afford them.
