Hi! I am 28 years old. I have been through alot in life and am looking for a way to become more in tune with myself. I am from Indiana but have been in Mississippi since May. The meals they have here are more of the soul food type :p which has led me to gain some weight. I have become very tired and Im tired of it. Im tired of all the salt and sugar. I just want to be healthy again!!! I have been going to the gym for 3 months now and it's time I change my diet too. I dont just want a diet I want to change my way of living. I dont care too much for meat, never have, and I love lots of fruits and veggies. These things led me into looking at fruit n veggie diets which led me here to this wonderful forum! I am very excited to change my life!!! Have a great day everyone!!

Hey, New Friends!

I stumbled across Alissa's Cohen's book in my kitchen the other day. It turns out one of my roommates had gone to one of her seminars about a year ago and brought the book back with her.

I began reading her book and found her positive perspective and warm approach to things very refreshing, so I checked out her site the next day. That's when I stumbled across the 30-day raw challenge and decided to do it.

I've attempted to eat all raw on three occassions and never made it past two months. I always felt incredible -- very strong, clear and positive -- when I ate completely raw. My challenge was worrying about being so thin. I'm a 40-year-old man and have a slight build, so naturally, it scares me a bit!

I worry about eating enough, but seem to eat less on this diet, as I'm so satisfied with the food. I really enjoy the taste of raw food. It works well with my body, too. Here's where it gets sticky for me: I've read mixed messages on the topic of calorie intake -- some say you need less, as it's so dense in nutrition and live enzymes, and others say you need tons of fruit to keep up your caloric intake. Does anybody have any feedback concerning the issue of caloric intake? I didn't find any information about it on this site... I worry about this topic a lot and think resolving this will enable me to move forward with more ease and confidence, and to keep with it for more than just two months -- even if I get real skinny again!

I live in Portland, Oregon, and have for more than half of my life. I think it's very beautiful here. I even know of a few restaurants that carry raw food. Pretty neat city to live in! My weird name "Drak" is short for Drakar, a Czech name that means "dragon," although I'm mostly German and Polish. I was given that nickname when I was a teenager and it never died. Oh, the many jokes during Halloween... :o)

I'm very happy to have found this site and am going to keep checking in daily for the 30-day raw challenge. I hope having support will help me around my fears of being underweight and encourage me to break past the "really thin phase." I've read that at a certain point, a person's body starts to gain a little weight back and even-out a bit.

Well, thanks so much for listening, or shall we say "reading," my ramblings. I'm looking forward to learning more, getting to know some new people, and renewing my adventure in health.

Thanks again! :o)
