I just got this book and made a couple of recipes. I am now going to sell it on ebay. I should have noticed first when the author described himself as "personal trainer, raw food chef, yoga instructor, nutritionist, healer, artist, film maker, actor, lecturer, consultant, peace activist, and CEO of pa-raw-dise". He seems a bit full of himself (He continually notes how much his businesses will gross in a year...).

I perused the book and wasn't too impressed by the recipes. I made a couple recipes and wasn't 'wowed' at all. The pictures on his web site are very interesting and make you excited for raw food, I'll give him that. I am also suspicious of his amazon.com reviews. I think maybe people he knows wrote them as they are layed out in a very 'marketing' way.

My favorties are still Alissa's and "living Cuisine", bar none. If you have this book and love it, I hope you're not offended. It just didnt do it for me.

I was going to get his book, but then saw a review he made of another raw book (might have been Living Cuisine, which I have and love). On that review he totally plugged in his book in a tacky way so I was turned off by that.

He's a tacky sorta guy. lol

I purchased his book..directly from him.. more out of curiousity than anything. Was perusing it yesterday as I'd made almond milk and it seems he has some recipes for the pulp. I'll "try" some of his recipes and get back to ya.

He was so funny the day I met him. Kept saying how everyone just LOVES his recipes and I'm standing there (there'd been MUCH controversy here just before that meeting) saying, "uh nope! nope! not true! nope! nope!". He was so fixated on himself and what he was saying he never heard me. THEN I purchased the book.

I'll get back to ya on the recipes.

I think the main issue stands with the names of the recipes, and how long it really takes to make. The macaroni and cheese is nothing like the SAD version. The baklava is nothing near pastry, but layered apples with some kind of sauce, tasty as it is, but not even close to what Baklava tastes like. The mac & cheese recipe I tried didn't take 10 minutes, it took about 30 minutes and I got frustrated with slicing the yams & couldn't roll them up. My opinion is that the names of the recipes needs to be suited to what they are, not a SAD substitute.

Then, if you've not done so, do a search here for bread. There's and onion bread here that's to live for: and someone else took the time to type in a whole bunch of various breads.

For me, it's not so much breads as sandwiches. Now I've got THAT down...:)

I was totally excited to buy his recipe books, because I've seen the raweo and grilled cheese recipes elsewhere online. Then I went to Amazon to read the reviews, and they all said the same thing.

This fellow seems to be extremely full of himself, the recipes aren't that good, the cookbook is poorly put together.

I didn't buy it because of the reviews I'd read on amazon, and now to see the same comments here, is a definite deterrent.

i saw an ad for the Raw in 10 a few days before my doctor suggested that i try just vegetables for a couple of weeks in order to drop some weight i gained a few years back and have been having a tough time losing. i suddenly remembered the ad and searched through my recycle box to dig out the magazine i saw the ad in.

found that ad and off to the internet i went!

his website made me laugh - and also made me cry, i have NEVER (and i am a graphic designer on two magazines) seen an author use THAT MANY exclamation points in my life! the whole thing was pretty much devoid of information, and was all market speak and "invest in me" over and over. i still wanted the book - but now needed to SEE it first - so off shopping i went.

this was 3 or so months ago - as he was advertising the grand opening of Pa-Raw-Dise. i have now been to that location 4 times - it is still not open yet.

after searching through several bookstores (and Whole Foods, which Brian points out on his site several times supposedly carries his book) i FINALLY found a few copied at Rainbow Market. (side note - anyone in the SF Bay Area that has not been there - go right now!)

one quick look and i knew right then and there that i would NOT pay full price for this book. poor print quality and generally disappointing. i really did not care for all the information about what products one could go to his famous restaurant and purchase - the one that now over 10 months since the publication of Raw in 10 - and that restaurant is not open.

OK - so that was a BIG RANT. to give Brian the benefit of a doubt - i have not been able to try a single recipe, or sample any of his food - so his stuff may be beyond wonderful - i have just been way frustrated by the whole experience.

one thing the experience did for me though was to lead me to a lot of good information, un-cook books and web-sites like this one to give me a hand. i am just getting my feet wet with raw at this point, so if nothing else Brian gave me a "hunger" to find out more.

Return it if you're not happy with it, for sure. Then buy a book you can be really happy with. :)
