Hi,
I recently purchased a Vitamix at Costco which started me reading and thinking about going raw. I've added to that a 9-shelf used Excalibur that I've used once for making fruit leather and once for making soy yogurt.
I'm just getting started -- adding raw foods to my diet here and there, but am transitioning from pretty standard cooked meals, although I almost always purchase organic when available and have avoided pre-packaged processed foods for years, w/ the occasional exception of some frozen items from the natural foods section.
I know I'm going to need help w/ finding ways to make this easier and also overcoming some of the challenges - especially because my husband and daughter are not on the same page w/ me.
I'm interested in losing about 15 lbs, too. That doesn't sound like much but I'm only 5'1" and weigh 125. The excess weight has caused me to develop sleep apnea so now I have to use a CPAP machine to keep me breathing at night.
I'm looking forward to finding my way around the forum and getting to know everyone and hopefully, some day I'll be able to share my success stories to help others get started! :)
Karen
PS - It looks like a lot of folks from OHIO have joined recently. Hopefully we can raise the nutrition consciousness of our state. Cincinnati doesn't have a single raw restaurant (and very few vegetarian or vegan) as far as I know.

Welcome!! Hey, don't downplay the weight you want to lose. We all have our own goals and they seem like a big deal to each of us because they're what we're dealing with! So glad you found us and good luck Ohioan!

Thanks to both of you for the encouragement! For myself and my family, I know that a slower and more gradual transition is more likely to result in permanent changes, but I'm ready to take some "baby steps" if someone will "hold my hand".
Starfire - Since you live in Hawaii, would you know of a recipe for papaya seed dressing? My daughter and her hubby went to Hawaii a few years ago and brought back a bottle of this sweet salad dressing. I'd love to know how to make a raw version!
Thanks again.

Cintilady47 - I am also from Ohio (about 4 hours from you). If you travel to Columbus, I believe there are some raw food restaurants there. Not sure - I would google that perhaps. Anyway...good luck to you. I like living in Ohio; I just don't like the limitations on fresh produce and the way Ohio is not as progressive as other states. (I do not mean to tick anyone off with that statement - so please just take it as MY opinion only. Thanks.). See you on the forum! You CAN do this.

Loving Cafe has a lot of raw options. They have excellent smoothies, a raw blueberry pie last I was there, and an amazing salad with a raw dressing. Worth a visit :)

Hey! It's great that you are trying raw! Columbus does have great places to eat if you ever make it up! North Star is great and so is Whole World, vegetarian and vegan, not so much raw but there are some choices. Does Cinci have a Whole Foods? Anyway keep it up! I'm here for encouragment because I too am starting! Good Luck!
