Hi,

This month I changed my life by doing the 10 day Master cleanse (also known and the lemonade diet) and then go raw directly after that. Everything has been great, I no longer crave coffee and I was springing out of bed everymorning to go for a morning walk, which I never did before. Until I got my period that is. I am so tired and lethargic these last 3 days. Don't know what I need to be eating to help remedy it. Fortunately I'm not craving meat or cooked foods, but I'm tired. Help!

Your Body is getting rid of MORE Debrie. So it is working harder. Good thing it only lasts a few days.

It sounds to me as though you may be low on iron. For obvious reasons, there is a drain on iron reserves during this time of the month and, being on a no-meat diet, you are probably not receiving haem iron in your diet. This needn't be a problem at all, it's simply that you need to ensure that you are eating foods which will provide enough iron. Mostly, this would be dark leafy greens but there are plenty of others, including dried apricots, raisins etc. Dark leafy greens are definitely the first port of call, though, and are needed for general good health, anyway, as you'll see reflected in the huge number of posts on the board about green smoothies and the like; greens are unbelievably nutritious and are eaten in terribly small quantities on a S.A.D. :)

Put simplistically, iron is needed in order to help the blood transport oxygen around the body, so any deficiency can potentially lead to impaired ability to transport oxygen around the body, which would obviously lead to subjective feelings of lethargy etc.

I would suggest you ask your doctor to check your iron levels, and in the meantime, make a point of consuming iron-rich foods to see if they have any noticeable influence on your energy levels during that time of the month.

Let me know how you get on.

Also, you could try drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea before and during your period.

I'm appreciating this thread, since I just had the same issue arise--yesterday and the day before. I'd noticed that my period this time was very heavy with kind of startlingly large clots coming through. My period is always robust, but not like this has been! I just got sooooooo tired yesterday all of a sudden. Then I realized it was a simple matter of not having had enough greens. Wow, I've never in my life been so exhausted during a period.

A large shot or smoothie with 2 Tbs Vitamineral Green or other green powder may help with energy. Chia Seeds are also suppose to be good as they contain a lot of nutrients we need.

What is good to combat the cramps? Most of the time I do not get them, but every once in a while I find that they get pretty severe. I am wanting to go as natural as possible, because I do not want to take a pill at the drop of the hat. My aunt gets very defensive when I refuse to take a pain killer for a headache. Her logic is: well, would you take a drug if you had heart trouble, and there was no other alternative to save your life?

I tell her it is two different things, but I know that I can never get her to listen to reason.
