Hi! I live in the midwest & I've dabbled with raw food for the past several years. Initially, I was pretty hardcore about it for a year and a half, and then I moved back to a cooked vegan diet. This winter I really struggled with depression and instead of combating it with a healthy RAW diet, I ate a vegan version of SAD. Hmmmm.... Seasonal Affective Disorder = SAD, too. So, yeah, it was a SAD time all around :-( But I'm seeing green things beginning to poke through the ground, little shoots and bulbs and blades of grass. I see this green and I'm reminded of the healing power of chlorophyll and live enzymes. This past week I've been eating mostly raw & I've felt so great! I can't wait to read more about other people's successes & healing journeys with raw. Thanks for creating this supportive & informative forum!

I get seasonal affective disorder as well. Unfortunately I've never been raw during that winter time. October-March is when I'm severely depressed usually (SAD on top of chronic depression). In the spring and summer I can do raw just fine, but in October the depression causes me to not care, crave carbs, etc. so I fall off raw completely for months. I still don't know if the cooked food causes more depression and that causes cravings for cooked. I wonder if I'm raw one winter if I'lll have SAD. I'm determined one winter to do that experiment!

Hey Dreamrawalwz, how about trying THIS winter? If it works for you, you might just kick yourself for not trying it sooner. :D

Hi! I have been depressed for most of my life, with the worst always being October-April. This year i went all raw in December. This is the first February that I haven't been in danger of hospitalization. I am realistic and I know that I haven't been through all the possible cycles of depression that might come along. I am vigilant and keep my thoughts positive and don't expose myself to negative influences like sad or violent television, etc... But, I am very hopefully optimistic about the future. I hope you will also experience relief from the pain of depression. Best wishes on your journey!

If only knowing HOW to do it was the same thing is actually DOING it! That's really the next step for me, I think, is to figure out how to stick with it. All I know is that I feel amazing when I eat this way, and I keep coming back to it. Just gotta stay on the good path! Y'all are such beautiful spirits to welcome us newbies & returnies like this :-)
