Day whatever this is and feeling great. I've been motivated to kick up my exercising even more...my previous amount was more than sufficient, but I've decided I quite fancy training for a marathon or something. Planning another hiking trip sometime next week, about which I'm excited. Last time I brought with me to eat a banana and cacao smoothie and a trail mix of various nuts, seeds, shredded nori, wasabi, and shoyu sauce. Gorgeous. That's not what I had today, though.

Re: Carlsbad...

Thanks for your advice and encouragement! Before the raw challenge I was doing about 80% raw, with my main exception being my morning bowl of oatmeal, which I used to buy for £0.20, and which used to last me all week. Now of course I am not doing that...and that was the budget shock! But my solution was just to not buy anymore food until today, as I usually food shop on the weekends, when I have a bit more time and when produce is often sold for reduced-to-clear prices! Today I was lucky enough to stock up on some cheap baby greens, which are one of the only types of greens that I can eat in salad (and not smoothie) form. I was thrilled to find that.

And as far as between my last post a few days back and now...I managed to make 1 1/2 bananas stretch pretty far...lol. I work at a bar, and whilst there I surreptitiously ate orange and lemon slices all night. I don't think anyone noticed...but it became my dinner.

I just drank another green smoothie (bananas, greens, kombucha) and had a ginormous salad with a dressing I made out of a reduced-to-clear green pepper, parsley I bought last week, oil, an onion, a clove or garlic, and a lime. Then I was still hungry....I went and worked out for a while, and of course was still hungry, but right now I'm fighting it because I want to make this food last....a bit longer!

reading all of your daily accounts are so inspiring to me!. I'm up a lb. today but i'm sure it just water weight. I didnt really eat any "meals" today, just pretty much grazed through the day.

started the morning with 1/2 a pineapple, raw nuts, dried pear, dried apricot
drank 1/2 bottle of g.t.'s kombucha tea
at lunch i didnt feel like eating the big salad i packed, but instead found a plum and a mango much, much more appetizing
noshed on some more raw nuts
dinner i'm having the big raw salad i made for lunch and another yummy plum

at work i get the urge to snack when its slow. does anyone have any suggestions to avoid snacking especially when youre not hungry? i've tried chewing gum, drinking water, drinking kombucha but i just love to munch!!

no movement today. spent the whole day at work and now i just want to enjoy some quality time with my boyfriend. hopefully tomorrow i'll get to take a nice long hike :)

Good morning, everybody! I just got caught up on reading yesterday's posts, and it seems as if everyone is doing GREAT! I am finally starting to feel a bit better and my plan today is to go to the grocery store to pick up things for the week.

I started with some lemon water this morning. Also on the menu today are some sugar snap peas, some carrots (or carrot juice, haven't decided), and whatever else I find at the store that looks good!

Have a great day!

finished my third raw week and feeling like I could keep going on this...

released 4#

released ALOT of posessions and notions too

I love the whole letting-go side effects of the raw life

my life is orderly and serene

I need to channel my newfound time and energy into more exercise

my concerns about being raw in the "outside world" are alleviating - I feel like when I am with my SAD friends (or at home, for that matter) that I will continue to have fruit/smoothies before noon and big salads for lunch and dinner - that's not freaky, right?

If I get put really on the spot, and have no alternatives, I will eat cooked vegan, as I did before...but I am really comfortable with my at-home raw
food plan now.

Yesterday I cleared out my kitchen (again). I was looking around and remembering ALL the food and utensils I had there that are now gone -
it feels GREAT to have eliminated so much clutter from my life. Now I just see lovely, red, ripe tomatoes, wrinkly green avocados and bright yellow bananas...it's almost all I need!!

I used to tell my SAD friends - if you don't drink coffee, you don't need a coffee pot, or cream, or sugar or coffee or cups or spoons......and so it goes

stay raw, my lovelies

fifi--
if you don't drink coffee, you don't need a coffee pot, or cream, or sugar or coffee or cups or spoons......and so it goesThat's one way to put it!

I've been raw for most of 13 months now, but suddenly I'm messy and cluttered again this week. I've been more tired and icky since I had coffee at the end of March. Blasted coffee.

fifi, I'm taking your lead to get all of the clutter and mess BACK out of my life today. I am going to start right now with my kitchen.

P.S. I made scones from here http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?p=406137#post406137, and they were sooooooooooooooooooo good!!! And total prep time = 20 min. incl. making almond milk. Then 2 hours in the D, and boom, lovely scones!!! Wowee!

Good morning everyone!

I am back on track with the workout routine! I am feeling great.

Just finished exercising and had a GS. Lunch will probably be a salad and apple/carrots for snacks. I am visiting some friends today, so I will need to pack some extra goodies so that I am not tempted with all the junk food.

I love my friends, but it is amazing the type and amount of junk they can put into thier bodies without thinking twice. I remember when I ate pub food and enjoyed. Eating what I do now and feeling as great as I do, I am confident that I will not go back!! My outlook is completely different and I am overjoyed!!

Have a great Sunday!

Happy Sunday to everyone ! I love hearing stories about cleansing of possessions. I always feel so good when I do that . My kitchen is all raw, only a few pots if company needs or I'd remove them too.
Have made broccoli salad, tahini dressing , hummus and fresh tangerine juice for week. It's so helpful and I actually had time! Yeah for me!
Today- lots of water, salad and whatever I feel my body needs.
Refresh refresh refresh !

Good morning all! I hope everyone has a lovely day, full of relaxation and rejuvenation. It is kind of gray here, so I will probably hole up inside with good books and good food!

I'm having a fruit salad for breakfast, and some green juice. I'm not sure the plan for eating for the day --- every time I make one, I never follow it! However, I did order a bunch of stuff online and go shopping last night so I can "uncook" for the week. I keep forgetting flax though! I'm planning on cooking some Bell Pepper Soup, Mexican Stuffed Peppers or Alissa's Mock Tuna Stuffed Tomatos, and Roasted Bell Pepper with Mushroom "Risotto." I'll probaby be nibbling off of those for the day!!!

I'll check back in later, and am wishing everyone lots of yummy foods!

Good morning all.

I too feel the urge to clean house today. There's a lot of stuff I just want to plain get rid of, stuff we don't use anymore that's just lying around. Including things like white wine vinegar, baking powder, etc.

As for food, I'm having a GS for breakfast. Probably some salad later with my new favorite dressing (olive oil, pine nuts, lemon juice, dill) and maybe some guacamole.

Will probably go to yoga later or the gym. It's my first day back from vacation and I'm dying to work out.

Have a great day, stay raw.

Morning All! I woke up this morning and decided to eat fruit rather than have a smoothie. So far, I've enjoyed a banana, a grapefruit, and some yummy pineapple. I have errands to run before work today so I'll be packing extra snacks to take, as well as my dinner. I have a few pears that really need to be eaten, and I think I'll take a small dish of mock salmon pate with carrot and celery sticks. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

it sounds like everyone is doing great and is very motivated!

i'm dragging a bit today. its gloomy outside and its making me sleeping. my appetite is up but i'm only craving fruits so i guess i'll just roll with it.

started the day with a grapefruit, banana, 2 dehydrated cookies and i'm about to dig into a juicy mango! my fridge is starting to look a little grim so i guess its off to the store today for me! as long as my fridge is well stocked i dont have the urges to go back to cooked. whatever it takes!

i hope every has a wonderful day!

Hi all
I am really loving this I feel great! I am having 1 or 2 green smoothies in the morning, for the remainder of the day i have fruit usually bananas and or apples then i have a big green salad for dinner. My hardest time is the evening as my old habits consisted of chowing down lots of chocolate and although i am not craving it i have the urge to eat, right now bananas fill this need but i would like to not be eating 3 or 4 of them before bed, any ideas what i can munch on?
went to yoga first thing so feel good that i have done my exercise today
good luck everyone its great to read all the posts

Whoops, I haven't been able to post in a couple days, but things are going well! I just finished a big mango-spinach-coconut-hemp smoothie and I'm feeling great! Social situations are challenging, but it's getting easier the longer I stick with it. Seeing some results on the scale isn't hurting, either. They've been slow and gradual, but there's definitely a downward trend.

Rawk on, everyone! It's great to see that more people are joining the challenge and that others are sticking with it. Keep on going! I love reading about everyone's successes and how they deal with some of the difficulties. I'm learning a lot from all y'all & I'm so inspired by the love & support on this forum.

Peace!

OMG scone recipe...thank you Eva. That may help with my potato pancake craving. Come to think of it, I wonder if those things had MSG...they were one of the only processed things I previously partook of.

Today...I've called myself athletic for a while, and while that has been based in the past on a general smattering of various physical activities in which I partake, I feel like I'm inspired to take it to a new level. My exercise time per day (on average) has increased twofold. I think that is really where the energy comes from, not the diet. I've done stints of 100% raw before and never noticed the energy I'm feeling now. I've always heard about the supposed benefits and wondered why I never felt them...perhaps it really is necessary to do this much in order to feel them. Or perhaps I've changed some other things in my life as well, without even knowing it.

Anyways, today I literally woke up out of bed jumping. I know that that was actually because I slept too long last night, though. I've managed to stretch my budget and as such have eaten today: a big salad with the same dressing I made yesterday, a green smoothie with sunflower and flax seeds and spirulina blended in there, a quinoa and onion curry, a pile of sesame seeds in oil because I was craving something fatty, and a banana.

I'm sure that was too much fat for today, though...by now I'm feeling a bit more lethargic by now. But that's ok since I don't plan to stay awake much longer.

Hello, fellow rawbies! :) Glad to hear most of you are sailing right along. Yesterday afternoon was rather strange...I wasn't hungry in the least. That NEVER happens with me. I had 2 little tastes of granola I had in the D and drank some raw lemonade.

Today I had GS for breakfast
Late lunch was yellow squash and zucchini noodles with Rawvolution Marinara Sauce
I snacked on a piece of delicious raw granola

If I get to the store I'll pick up more romaine and have a nice salad for supper.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week - I know I will! :D

I'm glad to see everyone is doing so well!

Yesterday I was on a job and met some really cool people! I feel like on raw I definitely draw people to me and the funny thing is, they are usually health minded people! We had some great conversations about the evils of processed foods (one of the guys in the group gave up processed foods and lost 100lbs!) and the benefits of "Klean Canteens". :)
I also packed some lovely chocolate covered strawberries (raw cacao powder, raw agave, coconut oil) which made it a lot easier to make friends! :p

Today I had:

Chocolate covered strawberries--- FROZEN- this was Delicious and refreshing.

Nori wrap- two nori sheets, scallions, 1/2 avocado, cauliflower "rice", cut up peppers, mung bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, carrot.

3 small nori crackers

2 handfuls of simple trail mix (almonds, walnuts, raisins)

tomato stuffed with green tahini dressing (tahini, water, lemon juice, sea salt, and lots of shredded parsley) on a bed of mixed dark greens, carrots, broccoli, celery, and alfalfa sprouts with a little lemon, sea salt, and olive oil drizzled on top.

YUM!! I feel great!

Woke up with a vanilla/almond butter/banana shake and now I'm off to the gym.

I'm going to keep it light today with a big old green salad for dinner, with a handful of dulse and cucumbers. Some orange juice for lunch.

Take care, have a great day.

I woke up feeling quite angry and found myself unable to concentrate on anything at all...which actually isn't that abnormal for me, as I'm diagnosably ADD and have put up with such things for years. I know that it may take a while for this to all go away, if at all it ever will. However, I know that it's at least gotten better through the years. This may sound stupid to someone who doesn't understand the condition...but I now can actually sit down and read books for fun. I didn't use to be able to sit still that long without taking breaks so often that I eventually gave up and did something else.

I still find myself needing to take breaks/switch tasks often. But I still get the same amount done, so as long as this is the case, I don't really see a problem with it.

Anyways, as far as what I've actually eaten:

-50g herb salad, topped with quinoa sprouts, pumpkin seeds, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and basil.
-100g barley...soaked, heated slightly, sweetened
-1 kg parsnip chips...parsnips cut into sticks, tossed in oil, sprinkled in salt, and allowed to dehydrate for a few hours.

I feel like a genius of sorts (even if I'm not) for the parsnips idea. I actually only bought the parsnips because they were on sale. Then I sat there and thought, "What the hell will I do with these parsnips?" I thought about what I would have done with them if I were cooking...and I did that raw. The longer I've been high raw/100% raw, the more I think of these sorts of things. I would not have thought to do that 2 years ago when I first went high raw.

Not sure what dinner will be. I'm actually planning to post this later on today, as I don't have internet at home. Perhaps by then I will have added to it.

My guess, though, is that dinner won't be the most interesting thing. I'm planning to meet a friend for dinner, so it just might be another restaurant salad.

Every time I try a period of 100% raw, my stomach almost IMMEDIATELY stops tolerating most cooked food. As I mentioned before, some of the only cooked foods I was eating before this month were cooked grains. Those have never bothered my stomach, but things such as Indian curry apparently now do. A few days ago I had some. My stomach was churning for hours afterward, and so I planned to make a raw curry to replace that sort of thing. Later on, I did, and it was brilliant. However, my stomach didn't seem to like that very much, either, so I'm wondering if perhaps it's the high spice and onion content. I will keep experimenting with things like that until I perfect my raw curry...lol.

Starfire: What a great message I came onto the board to see today! Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Today:

Breakfast: Juice, huge glass: Spirulina, APple, Pear

Lunch (now!): Raw chilli, with lots of water to drink because I added too much jalepeno, haha. Very filling and delicious. I'm not usually a tomato person but I could eat them all day like this!

Snack: Rawberry Shortcake (SOGOOOOOOD.)

Dinner: More chilli or chipotle corn chowder.

Look forward to hearing about everyone else's day, it gives me yummy ideas for later in the week!

Hi everone! I'm feeling sooo GREAT!! It seems like everyone is doing so well!

MMAYNARD: I am glad to hear you feeling better, I've been praying for you that the flu would pass and you would feel better than ever!!

STARFIRE: Your energy IS contagious and I feel honored to know you!

AVANDERLAND: Which raw chili recipe did you use?? I love the taste of RAWvolution chili but I've never added the toppings he suggests...just wondering.

It's spring and there are still plenty of low temp. days where I would love a warm "spicey" dish to warm me up in the evening. I love raw chili, but mine mostly tastes like a smoothie because I tend to blend it too long.:o I'm usually to much in a hurry to dehydrate sliced or chopped veggies in the dehydrator...but I have done that before and it turns out good...stirred into the chili (smoothie) mixture.

I thought of making Alissa's, but I think she uses barley sprouts, and I don't have any barley to sprout.

Today my food has been:
apple, banana, walnut, ground flax seed, honey mixed in with some almond milk:D YEEHAW! YUMMY!!
I also had some kombucha....and regular honey sweetened tea....that's it so far. Getting ready to have a quick lunch before I take DS to the dentist!!

I'll check back in later!

I love my avo as guacamole.....:D

HOW ELSE DO YOU EAT AN AVO????

Well, I have been off-line for the weekend but definitely on-raw (hee hee I thought that was funny). StarFire, I want to send out a big kiss for your continued enthusiasm. You rock girlie!!

The weekend went easier than I thought it would. I worked in the garden a lot and my allergies were really bad both days. I felt so miserable that Sunday night, that I was really craving something hot to consume. So, I made some tea (a few cups actually) and felt a bit better. I also tried a slice of lemon in hot water and I really liked it. I think it might have helped clear up my nose a bit. Today I am back at the office, so allergens are at bay since I am in closed windows with not a lot of greenery around. I keep reading about folks that overcome allergies once they have been raw awhile. Bring it in baby! I get allergy shots, I use prescription eyedrops, I take a prescription oral pill, I use a prescription nose-inhaler and I still feel pretty congested, etc. year round. I can’t wait to feel better regarding the allergies and be-all-I-want-to-be!!

Speaking of which. I am usually a pretty up-beat happy person. But, since I have been raw now for 7 days, I am ridiculously happy. I am in my mid-40’s so I look just goofy walking around with a huge grin on my face and smiling and waving to everyone. I am having a hard time containing my glee. Believe it or not it is someone bothersome, since I am having a hard time sitting still. I am sure this will pass and I am just going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Still eating whatever I want (as long as it is raw). I did actually lose a few pounds last week. This is odd since I have eaten so much. However, I do want to lose about 10 pounds so I am going to just enjoy it, but not get fanatical about weight-loss quite yet. Being/staying raw is enough for now.

Love you guys and thank you so much for the support and love. A big hug to everyone! (See what I mean about the unbridled happiness????).

Wendi -- I mix an avocado up in salads. I have seaweed with any kind of sprouts, sliced avocado and herbamare. I have avocado sliced with basil, olive oil and mushrooms. Or sliced with tomato, olive oil and herbamare.

Or... mmm... mixed with a sweet almond mylk in the blender. My Brazilian husband turned me on to this, and it is just divine. You can toss a banana or two in too. Why not!? :)

Ah... and sometimes, I put just a bit of agave in the nori rolls. It's a really lovely surprise that really tempts my senses.

Lately (and I have no idea why -- it's physiological not emotional) I'm craving avocados like crazy. I've been eating 2 to FIVE on an AVERAGE day!! It's crazy!

Wendi - funny you should ask about ways to eat avo. I just ate some mushroom caps marinated overnight in Nama Shoyu and stuffed with Alissa's spinach dip, which is mostly spinach and avo. Very tasty.

I had a GS with spinach this a.m. I'll have a romaine salad in a little while, bananas for supper, and maybe a big ole glass of green lemonade when I get home tonite.

I have pumpkin seeds soaking and will put spicy pepitas in the D tonite. I love those things.

Btw, my RFRW grawnola turned out yummy! My whole SAD family loves it. I like it but can only eat a nibble at a time...chock full of heavy nuts.

Hey Everyone!

I haven't checked in since last Thursday, so I've spent a while reading all the posts I missed. Everybody seems to be doing so well--I'm so proud of each of you!!

I had a completely bizarre week/weekend. I will preface it by saying that I stayed 100% raw, and I'm really proud of that. But it was definitely a major struggle. I'll talk about it more in detail in my blog. The weirdest thing though was that none of my raw food sounded at all appetizing to me. Not even my favorite stuff. I've never had that happen with food before! I think maybe I've just gotten into a food rut, and so I tried making some new things. I made almond mylk for the first time, and was surprised by how yummy it is. I also made little cookie things out of the pulp, and I can't wait to try the scones someone posted. Anyway, I'll save the long story for blog world. The important thing is that I stayed raw and I feel better today, so hopefully I'm through it.

Today's food: glass of almond mylk before my workout class, handfuls of almonds afterwards (can you tell my raw almonds just came in the mail? =), then a glass of green smoothie (dandelion greens, almond mylk, bananas, peaches--I may add honey next time). For later I have some fantastic raw granola made by Two Raw Moms, and for dinner I'll make Alissa's fettucini alfredo, but without the Braggs (I don't like the taste).

Keep on rawking everyone, even when it's hard!!!

Whooo-hooo! This is so exciting. I'm so glad that I'm sticking with this & we're all celebrating our progress together :) I'm still eating raw—it gets better & easier every day. And... drumroll, please... my weight finally just dropped down from the 160s to 159.8! It's just barely there, but I know I'm headed in the right direction.

Today I've had two big smoothies so far (one green). I'm gonna snack on some fruit later and then have a great big salad for dinner. Rawk on!

One week raw and have released 5 lbs. Yea. With all the stress I had going this last week, it is amazing that raw has helped me out.

Like Carlsbad, I also had the weekend where I didn't "feel" like wanting anything. Also think I need to add a little variety. Just got Alissa's book 4 days ago and that is going to help...and of course all my cyber RFT buds with tips, advice, encourgement and lessons they've learned on life and raw.

Have a great Monday!

I have now been 100% raw for one week - although i was dabbling in it for 2-3 weeks before, maybe smoothie breakfasts. I am thouroughly enjoying the new tastes, but I will be very glad to see the arrival of my ordered De-hydrator as I need something to 'bite' on to, something other than soft and wet or crunchy and wet ! I'm sure I'm not alone on this one ? I'm using the food processor which is great, so i'm able to produce Alissa's non deydrated recipes at the moment. So far I've lost 2lb in my first week, perhaps i'm eating too many nuts ! ? I am still also needing a sweet fix so i'll blend together some soaked dates, soaked almonds and carob powder... I'm reassuring myself that the balance of alkaline etc will re-address my blood sugar levels. What have others experienced regarding sweet needs ?
Continuing good luck everone.... Papayabanana

Good evening everyone!

So today was really stressful. I didn't have much of an appetite at all. I couldn't even finish my GS. Nothing seemed right.

It was a weird day. Tomorrow is going to be equally as stressful. We'll see...

The only highlight today was that I was able to get my workout in early this morning.

Have a good night!

Ha, ha! Thanks for the prompt, Starfire. This raw gal definitely plans on shaking her bootay today!!! And I've got my favorite yoga class tonight. Wheee!

I'm so excited to be on week two with this. I'm having a little bit of detox, I think (my breath this morning when I woke up? errr, YUCK).

Anyway, I've got loads of fresh fruit to munch on today: kiwis, apples, oranges, and bananas. I'll make a green smoothie at some point using some frozen berries and spinach. And for dinner probably a green juice with Alissa's mock salmon paté in collard wraps. I've also got some lemon-sesame-dulse crackers that I made yesterday (I don't have a dehydrator, so I just baked them as low as I could get my oven to go).

Have an AWESOME day, everyone!

Good morning everyone!!

I feel so great! I feel skinny....no that I am, but you know, when you loose that "bloat" and feel clean...it makes ME feel skinny!!

BANSHEE: It IS just a detox thing. What is it you are angry about? Sometimes I've felt this way, it I realize it's a surpressed anger....something that happened awhile ago that I never resolved for myself!! Think it through and spend some time thinking about the emotion, the WHY of it.....does that make sense??

STARFIRE: I will try those. I think I tried Alissa's chili, but it was early in my raw days and I think I left out the sprouts and maybe some more stuff. AND I will definitely look for all the ingredients for the chutney....AND I am going to the Y this afternoon to really break a sweat!!!

I have not eaten yet....I've had tea and kombucha....

HEY STARFIRE: DH went to one of our local HFS to buy me some DULSE....and they QUIT carrying it!!! How an you QUIT carrying a food as precious as seaweed.....the only seaweed on their shelf was nori sheets!! I'm off to another town to another HFS to see if they have any:eek: I sure hope so....I may have to order it!

I don't have any plans for the day....

OH yeah, my flax crackers in the "magic box" are smelling good. This is how I made them:
RAWvolutions chili recipe....without the toppings (with a half an avo added) all pureed...what I had leftover from Sunday nights dinner....about 1/2 the recipe (maybe 1-2 cups) I mixed in with my flax (1 cup seeds soaked, in water overnight....made about 2 cups "mash") I mixed the chili with the mash. I let that sit and mingle on the counter for most of the day...then spread it out on 2 sheets. Sprinkled with nutritional yeast and alittle sea salt....they smell so good this morning! I flipped them over....I can't wait to taste them. I'll let you know how GREAT they are. How can they be bad? THEY HAVE TO BE GREAT...all those flavors and spices!! YUMMY!!:D CAN YOU SAY CHILI CRACKERS???!!!!

ok, we gotta get going on our school work. Ya'll have a great day. Everyone is doing so great!!

Morning Everybody!!

Today is the most beautiful day here--high 70's and sunny, with clusters of bluebonnets all over the place. But the most sunshiny moment of my day came when I read Starfire's posts from yesterday and this morning! What a beacon of pure joy you are! You brighten all of our days!!!

So, I'm still coming slowly out from under the "ugh" of last week. This morning I had the best breakfast, and I ate it (for once) sitting at my beautiful breakfast table and having a little quiet devotion time. It was, in a word, serene. And even though I was two hours late to work :p , I don't feel bad about it. I was here for 12 hours yesterday, and my boss is out of town, so I didn't feel bad taking some time to reset myself this morning. Anyway, here's what I had for breakfast that was so good and satisfying: chop up a banana and three dried figs (I used calymyrna) in a bowl. Top with a couple of handfuls of soaked, sprouted, dehydrated buckwheat and a handful of hemp seed. Pour in the almond mylk and enjoy! It was sooooo tasty, and it soothed my soul to eat "cereal" in the morning like a "normal" person. Now before everyone jumps on me for saying that SAD poison is normal, understand that I KNOW raw is the healthiest, most natural way to eat, but sometimes I get nostalgic for the food rituals I've followed my whole life. I think it's been years since I've eaten cereal, but it just felt good to sit and eat and enjoy it.

Gosh! Sorry that was so long!! For food for the rest of the day, I have green smoothie left over from yesterday, some awesome raw granola for snack, and more of Alissa's fettucini alfredo from last night. Yum! And I will definitely hit the hills with my pooch and then hit the gym--thanks for the encouragement Starfire!

i've had the happiest few days. i've been eating this way for a little while now but until this month hadn't gotten that ecstatic feeling. could be spring or could be all the juice i've been drinking, but i hope it sticks around. :)

very hungry today. had two apples with almond butter for breakfast and a big salad with tomato and seaweed flax crackers for lunch. mid-afternoon quart of green smoothie and we'll see about dinner. probably another salad or a blended salad. i've had some cravings and setbacks lately so i'm really working on upping the greens this month.

i also made raw mexican hot chocolate today for a treat: a thick hazelnut milk with cacao, cinnamon, cayenne and 1 date, all blended up until warm. yum.

make a lovely day. :)

Hi Everybody! I am back to feeling like myself again, except for a lingering cough. It feels great to finally have my energy back! My boss is traveling this week, so it gave me an opportunity to do some spring cleaning in my office. I can finally see my desk! :) hee hee

I have been sticking with mostly fruits and veggies (not many fats) since I've been sick. Tonight I'm planning on a pear and possibly some corn later on if I'm still hungry. Tomorrow I need to get to the store to pick up some things like avos and nuts for the week.

It sounds as if everyone has been doing GREAT! I weighed in this morning and I am down 5.5 lbs this week (a benefit of having the flu, I'm sure).

Today was a GREAT day!!! I actually had a headache for a good part of it until I had my tax appointment. Everything was filed electronically, so all that's left is to cough up some cash. :( Ah well... my headache went away the moment the appointment was over!!! I knew it was stress. I NEVER get headaches anymore! I actually forced myself to stop what I was doing a few times to really try to relax. My headache loosened up those times.

ANYways, I brought my tax lady and her husband some scones fresh out of the dehydrator and some fresh almond mylk. She was really surprised at how good they were! :) Yay!

And I promised my English students I would do the same for them our next class. :)

Aaaaaand the sun was shining down on me this afternoon! My class went wonderfully, and I totally brought vegetables into the conversation in a funny, teasing way. All of my students are Brazilian and two were complaining of stomach aches. Our lesson was about "I'm excited to..." and I got them coming up with sentences like, "I'm excited to eat my vegetables."

hahahaha.

Have a RAWkin' night folks! :) See you tomorrow,

Haven't checked in for a while- but sailed smoothly through the first week. Only had one time when I was tempted, but thanks to having plenty of great food choices already prepared, I was able to push it right out of my mind and move on.

I love eating this way, and am soooo thrilled to be doing it again. Have tried a few new recipes and liked them all. My goal on this challenge is to try at least 2-3 new recipes or create my own weekly. I love "playing" with food!:D

Started the morning with foxtrot tea, then ate a scandalous amount of fresh picked blueberries, wasn't hungry again until mid-afternoon.
Ate Kale Krisps right out of the dehydrator, a few walnut hemp crackers with various raw dips and baby carrots.
Had sprouted buckwheat granola with fresh almond milk for dinner.
And drank lots of home brew-kombucha!

I have terriyaki almonds in the dehydrator which should be ready tomorrow- tasted one today and my whole body felt charged- but it wasn't quite crispy enough yet. Sometimes it takes foreeeeeever to dehydrate in Florida. But it is worth the wait!

Well, it sure is good to be back! I essentially put in a seven-day work week last week. *whew*

Banshee: I've had a few experiences where I've felt really angry since starting this. I'm an emotional eater and think I'm having withdrawals from my old addictive eating, if that makes sense... I think more than my body is detoxing, my emotional and spiritual "bodies" are, too.

I'm feeling much better these days -- no more headaches and not grumpy. I have alot of energy and think I need to start exercising. I need somewhere to put all this energy!!! :D

I've remained raw the past few days in which I didn't post, so good so far. I've been having huge green smoothie cravings, must be something in it that I'm really needing right now.

Today's menu was:

Breakfast: Green smoothie with chia seeds
Snack: 2 Larabars
Lunch: grapefruit juice
Snack: 2 bananas
Dinner: almond & carrot pate with cucumbers
Snack: Another huge-ass smoothie with chia, raw green grass powder and chia seeds

Raw Celebration Day #8!!! :D

Wow, I'm first?

Well, first thanks everybody for getting me through my "angry" day...today I'm like a whole new person...feeling GREAT and HAPPY! I guess I hadn't had any emotional detox symptoms until yesterday, so really didn't know what I was dealing with...now I can recognize it and try to get to the heart of it so to speak.

Got the Box from Rawvolution last night. I can't believe I spent the money on it, but I did it because I don't make many recipes (short of smoothies, dips and crackers) and I wanted to taste prepared items so I could feel the confidence to do it myself. So far I've only had the Spinach Mushroom Quiche and it was FANTASTIC! Does anyone have the Rawvolution "cook" book? Is this recipe in there? Just wondering before I buy it.

My wish??? Alissa needs to start selling something similar to the Box! I hope she's thinking about it!

Anyhoo, back to the food....
Yesterday was hard, but today is a brand new seemingly fantastic day....

Green smoothies (spinach, banana, green apple, lemon)
Spinach Mushroom quiche (all gone :( )
Zucchini hummus in boston lettuce
curry soup
bananas
avocados
and not sure about dinner yet....

Everyone have a fantastic day!
I'm waiting for Starfire's pep talk!

Good morning everyone!

I am feeling very motivated this morning!! The weather was fantastic yesterday. I got out of work and was able to wear shorts for the first time while running this Spring! Yeah!!!

I watched the Biggest Loser last night. What an inspiring show! The dedication, commitment and change is outstanding. So my goal for this week is to workout hard, not make excuses and have fun!

For breakfast, I had a great GS with swiss chard, kale, spinach, strawberries, banana, grapes and raw powder. It was great!!

Lunch, simple salad. Snack apple. Dinner: still pondering...

Have a Wonderful day and get out and live!

For breakfast had 2 kiwi and waiting for my mango to get a little chilled.
L- Banana/romaine smoothie
S - seeds/nuts/raisins
D - 1st time to make Alissa's fettuccini alfredo (or may just do marinara)
If I need a little something extra throughout the day - a banana maybe with 1T cashew butter, and some raisins

Good morning everyone!

I've been doing great. After my LONG workout last night, I came home and had a handful of cashews mixed with some cacao nibs and honey for dinner along with a sliced JUICEY orange!!

kristi7mark: I'm getting ready to make my first batch of kombucha. I'm making it using a bottle of already made kombucha as the starter....with no real SCOBY in it. Someone mentioned that this worked, so I'm going to give it a try! Hopefully in a month I'll have my own home brew!

BANSHEE: YES, this recipe IS in RAWvolution! I've never tried it, but thought about making it. I paid under $20 on amazon for the book (counting shipping). The recipes I have tried of his are great. Cut down on the garlic alittle, he uses LOTS!! I love his chili recipe, and today I want to make his mock tuna!!

I don't know what I am going to eat today. I am running out of supplies. My avos aren't ripe yet...maybe I have the stuff to make a salad...and the mock tuna (I think).

This morning for breakfast I'll have a sliced banana with a few walnuts and herbal tea.
Lunc will be a salad with some of the chili flax crackers I made yesterday!! THEY WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!!!
I am really enjoying my food lately. No exceptions.....and my kids even ate one of my most tempting treats, that I took them into the store to buy...I had none, came home with several for DH, but I've had none. All I could think about was, "yeah, it might taste good, MAYBE, but the feeling afterward would be misery!! It's just not worth it!!!":D I have found that the sweet treats I used to eat, when I have slipped in the past, they don't taste as good....I've noticed how SAD chocolate tastes PLASTIC to me now. I don't want it!!

I've gotta get busy!!

Everyone have a great day!!:D

Hi all,

Feel great today. Started out with a pina colado. Brought a big jug of oj with me and a cucumber. I'm leaning towards simpler foods these days, not sure why.

I went to a Toastmasters meeting (that is a public speaking group) and met a couple who turned out to be raw fooders. How cool is that?

Enjoy the day. It is absolutely beautiful here in the Northeast.

Just wanted to pop in and say "hi"!

Hi!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day. I'm feeling a touch stressed to start out... because... there are a whole bunch of birds that keep flying at my windows. It's the STRANGEST thing. I don't know what they're thinking! And my dog has been barking for almost 4 hours straight!

But I have to work! Sheesh!

Good morning all! It just dawned on my this morning that I haven't checked in AT ALL for days. Eek! Well here I am...lol

Today for breakfast I had green lemonade (romaine/kale/apple/ginger/lemon) and a green smoothie (spinach/green chard/pineapple/orange/strawberries/blueberries/flaxseed). For lunch (if I'm even hungry after what I've just had  will be a great big green salad with avocado/purple cabbage/tomatoes/carrots/salsa. And dinner? Hmmm...not quite sure, perhaps some broccoli for a snack.

Have a great raw day!!!!

Good morning everyone...

What I had this morning...my usual...
Banana, strawberry, orange juice I juiced myself, lime juice I juiced myself, and spinach green smoothie.
handful of almonds,
snacking on flax seed crackers,
and about 4 glasses of water, so far.

I think I may make myself some guacamole (to use up my avo's) for dinner...and just pile it on flax seed crackers.

Good morning! It's only day 3 for me, but I'm jumping in anyway. I hope that's ok!
So far today I've shared a smoothie with my little one (spinach, blueberries, pear) and I'm not sure about the rest of the day yet. I do know that I will be eating some avocados, because I have 4 that are going bad.
No water for me yet- I just got up about 40 minutes ago! I work from home on Wed., and sleep in, but usually not quite this late. It's 10:40 here. I think it's part of the detox process for me, being really tired for a few days. That, and giving up my disgusting addiction to a certain dark brown pop which will remain nameless.

Going strong! I had 3 bananas this morning for breakfast, a big salad & green juice for lunch, and I've got a couple apples to munch on as snacks this afternoon. For dinner I'll have another big salad & some collard wraps stuffed with an almond based paté. I also bought more coconut so I can make some more chocolate macaroons :-) YUM. I'm convinced raw chocolate treats are the secret to keeping me raw... As long as I can have something chocolatey, I'm happy!

Keep on RAWkin!

Hi all,

I'm glad things are going well! I'm very sluggish and very tired as I am suffering from jet-lag. I had a great time away but the time difference has certainly caught up with me. Yesterday I was doing some weights and was falling asleep on the machines. At that point I realised it was time to stop and go home.

I'm going to try again in the next half an hour, I've had a little nap and will take part in a class. Breakfast was my usual powerful green smoothie, lunch salad and evening meal yet to come. I love the idea of the home delivery sevice and the quiche. So keep up the good work! I had lost a few pounds before my hols and have put them back on again. It is so important to remain focussed. So smile with me as I put my body through the realms tonight. I am having to pay for 10 days of no real exercise!:) Blessings

I am having a "plain" baby spinach salad. I put some sliced red pepper and deh. sunflower seeds on it. The sunflower seeds were soaked overnight, rinseed, and then soaked for the day in Braggs....and dehydrated until crispy...these add such a great flavor to any salad! A drizzle of evoo and squeeze of lemon and all is great!!

Everyone have a blessed day!:D

Hey Everybody,

Had another bummed out night last night and didn't make it to the gym. But today I started with a workout, and I already have my workout planned for tomorrow, so I'm feeling better.

Food: breakfast: fabulous raw "cereal"--banana, figs, buckwheat, and hempseed. Now I'm out of dehydrated buckwheat, so I need to make some more! Ditto on the almond mylk!
Lunch: green smoothie, raw granola
Snack: almonds
Dinner: will be a salad of romaine, zucchini, broccoli with my experimental dressing (tahini, honey, ACV, lemon juice, nama shoyu, garlic, avocado). I hope it's good. It smelled strange and looks like pond sludge, but hopefully it will be good.

Now I'm off to my mom's house for a quick shower and then back to work. [Explanation on that: I work right down the road from my parents' house, literally, but about 40 minutes from my house. On Mondays and Wednesdays there's an exercise class up here at my office (I work at a church) and it's really hard and I get drenched. If I can, I scoot to my mom's to take a quick shower, since I often have to work late into the evening.]

Day 8:

It's been:

green smoothie (bananas, kombucha, dandelion greens I picked myself)
soaked barley
salad topped with quinoa, pumpkin seeds, basil, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice
chocolate pudding made out of a banana, oil, sesame seeds...and no, the cacao wasn't raw, because I can't afford it...and I don't know how many threads I've seen here saying "don't sweat the small stuff"
Dinner later.

In response to that, though...I've seen people on this board vehemently defending the use of things such as frozen corn (which is blanched prior to packaging), agave syrup (which in most cases is not even raw), Liquid Aminos, etc.

I say...if we're not going to sweat the "small stuff", why worry about whether or not your cacao is raw? Or your coconut? Why waste all the money buying it online when you can get nearly-raw (cooked only at slightly higher temperatures than "raw") for a fraction of the price?

Personally, I would use cooked cacao BEFORE I'd use cooked (frozen) corn. For one, I am not a big chocolate person and rarely use chocolate at all. Two, I am not convinced that spending £20 on raw cacao is worth it when I can buy cocoa powder for £2. But my choice is based on practicality and my financial situation.

My final point with all of this...I have listened quietly to those who tout their 100% raw ways, but who use frozen veg and say, "Don't sweat the small stuff." This makes you 90-something % raw, technically. So call it that! Because I agree--for whatever your reason, don't sweat the small stuff. In the long run, it doesn't matter.

And I'm feeling great, by the way.

Day 9:

3 avocados
2 tomatoes
in 2 nori rolls
1 kiwi
1/4 c sesame seeds
500g dates
carob powder in water

Admittedly...not the healthiest menu plan the world's ever seen from me. And I actually don't feel so great. The trouble with dates is that I physically cannot resist eating all of them that are in the same container. I need to either buy them in smaller quantities or not buy them...I'm going to just not buy them; they're not really necessary, and I never use them to make the raw desserts I think I will...I really don't make too many raw desserts. I don't really like chocolate. I keep thinking I do...but I don't. No more dates.

Avocadoes. I think keeping it at 3 was ok. It's not something I do on a regular basis.

Ran only 2 miles today...perhaps I will do some more this evening once I feel less full (just ate dinner). I did walk at least 2 or 3, though.

Now to go off and possibly do something useful.

Wow, sharethejoy, that must have been so tough! Kudos for you for sticking to your goals when life goes awry! Many of us slip then, and you are a model for everyone who says, "well, I'm feeling so stressed, so I'll have a little..." Excellent!

Today I had:

Breakfast: Banana, green juice
Lunch: Oh My Chilli! (so yum!)
Snack: A little bit of everything that I uncooked tonight: Fudge balls, snickerdoodles, rawritos, red bell pepper soup...
Dinner: GS with baby spinach, cucumbur, mango, pineapple, anddddd coconut oil!

I have to say that I am NOT normally a GS person. I WANT to be one, because I totally need to up my greens intake like crazy, and it seems the perfect way. Adding that coconut oil today. Delicious!!!! I could DEFINITELY start my day off with one of these now. I guess it is just about finding the combinations that suit you!

That being sai,d I guess tomorrow I will have to pcik up some more greens! All I have right now is broccoli, so I guess I'll be heading to thef armer's market tomorrow!

iamcranberry... OUCH  !! okaaaay... well.. if I ever 'appeared to be 'touting my 100% raw ways I apologize.... for I am one of those that says "I don't sweat the small stuff".... and i certainly did not meant to 'tout'... or to "vehemently  " defend the use of frozen corn (it is after all -- only corn!!) ... LOL!!!

hmmmm... I have a very 'strange' opinion about my 'rawness'... and I always try to preface it with ... this is MY OPINION and MY OPINION only... I apply this to me... and me alone...

as we all know.. LIVING on LIVE foods... this journey -- has it's ups and downs for all of us... the stuggles, the battles, the journey is unique to each of us. It is important that we find our balance, our path -- whatever will work for us to help us be successful in our endeavors towards health.

I realized one day that my heart --- my body ... loves raw food. I am happiest when I eat raw food. Occasionally I may eat something cooked... i will not say I 'slipped' and ate something cooked... cuz it's never a 'slip'... I didn't trip on a banana peel and a piece of cooked food ended up in my mouth!!
It's a choice - I made a choice to eat whatever.

I was reading about the journey of a very well know Raw Guru one day and she wrote (and sorry I dont remember the exact words but the gist of it was) ... I consider myself a RAWFOODIE ... during times when I struggle or not - I realized - I'm STILL a rawfoodie, that just decided to eat something else at that moment. And at that moment - in that realization ... something changed for me. and this journey then became easier - because I knew and understood where I'm going, and who I am.

That was a 'key' for me that has helped me along my journey. I AM RAWFOODIE... I am not 90%... 99.999% .... 80%.... 85%... raw foodie... I am simply --- A RAWFOODIE...

I have often used the analogy of being a woman.
I AM A WOMAN. In my culture - most women have long hair. If I were to cut my hair - I would be no less a woman... I am STILL a woman - just with short hair. (granted my grandmother would turn over in her urn and slap me upside the head if I cut my hair !!!) hehhehee!!! :D

as a RAWFOODIE... the majority of my food is RAW... and THIS is where I am happiest. On occassion - I may use agave... miso... BRAGGS... MAPLE SYRUP...

and even on those rare occassions where I might have something cooked... I STILL CONSIDER MYSELF A RAWFOODIE... that just ate something cooked.
I don't deduct percentages day by day... I simply ... 'am'.

I am not saying it's okay for me to eat slabs of fatted calf 24/7... and all cooked foods... and still call myself a rawfoodie... that would be a lie... but -- for me... in 'my world'... a little braggs, a little agave... those small things - I will not sweat them.... but then -- that's just me... It's what works for me... and my journey... and this freedom... of 'not sweating the small stuff' like FROZEN CORN ... which is even used in Alissa's book ... for me... that's okay.
there are no raw police demanding a 'certain LAW' be followed if I am going to refer to myself as a rawfoodie...

I'm learning just like everyone else.. and just trying to do the best that I can...

Personally ... I'm having a BLAST eating this way!! I looove it!! It's like having a party in mouth every time I eat!! So many amazing flavors and vibrant foods!! It just RAWks!!! I have tailored this LIFEstyle to what works for me and I am happy!!

I do hope you find your path and what works for you...

RAWk on and I'm glad that you are feeling great!!

So, after the smoothie, I wound up eating two bananas, and some leftovers from dinner last night for lunch (red peppers, broc, and pine nuts in light sauce), and for dinner I made delicious dehyrdated spicy and sweet corn crackers that I dipped in guac. I need to write down that recipe before I forget what I did, because it was fabulous and my two year old loved it. It was a great day :)

-gs: 2 bananas, frozen raspberries and blueberries, bunch of spinach

loving the greens and seaweed, my new love. my body is not loving fruit for breakfast... noted.

i went to my first pilates class ever today with a real instructor who yelled and did corrections and wasn't passive through a tv screen. Hello all! Another blessed raw day!

tvillemom- I wished you lived in my area, I would give you a kombucha baby-my scoby reproduces regularly and I have had a hard time finding parents to adopt them. :) Hope your experiment turns out well!

thirtyone- I sooooo agree-chocolate is indeed the answer! I am careful to always have a chocolate treat on hand, and when I am getting ready to run out, I make a new one before I do. As long as I have raw chocolate, I am happy, no, make that euphoric!

starfire- I know exactly what you mean about eating raw being like having a party in your mouth! When I try to explain that to SAD eaters they look at me like I have two heads, but once I convince them to try my food, most of the time, I can see the lights come one and I love it!

My food for the day consisted of-

LOTS of blueberries, again
Sliced avo and tomatoes on Walnut Hemp crackers- Yummy!
Bubbies's Dill Pickles- also yummy!
LOTS of Kale Krisps
few pieces Choco-mint fudge
strawberry, banana, and pineapple smoothie
kombucha

I made the fruit smoothies at dinnertime because our church hosted a neighborhood pizza party in our front yard. It was for a good cause but honestly I didn't feel good about people being fed pizza and soda in my front yard so I did my part and made a few blendersful of smoothie and brought it out to share. Everyone who drank it, loved it and the neighbors were ministered to and blessed.

My mother is having major health issues and I am sharing lots of my food with her. She loved the avo-tomatoe sammies today. I am hoping she will join me for the next challenge! In the meantime, I will keep sharing with her. Every lil bit helps!

Blessings to All!:)

Here I am...bringing up the rear again. Congrats to all for doing so well.

Starfire, thanks for your post re: being a rawfoodie who sometimes chooses to eat some trivial thing cooked. I saw a very similar post recently that was pivotal for me on my raw journey. That shift of self-perception makes all the difference to me. :) I, too, disagree with the whole concept of a "slip up" because it is a choice made, not some random accidental occurrence.

Something I've started saying to myself whenever I feel tempted to eat something cooked..."If you're not responsible for your own nutrition, who is?" Since I am generally a responsible person, this strikes a cord (and makes me eat more greens:p ).

G'nite, y'all!

Boy, I really enjoyed reading the threads tonight. I, too, came to the conclusion that making foods with Braggs, dehydrated garlic, or any other not-perfectly-raw foods is okay for me. After all, I'm in this for the long haul and simply want to be more healthy. I'm definitely not wanting to lose weight, so I don't have a short-term goal -- it's all long-term! :p

I went out to dinner, then the movies with my mom. I told her about the raw food diet and she seemed pretty good with it -- no rolling eyes or uncomfortableness like in the past when I tried it. I was grateful. We've come a long way in a relationship and she doesn't get up in arms about my choices like she used to. I ordered a really delicious salad for dinner and had an apple for a snack later on.

Here's what I had today:

Green smoothie
2 Larabars
Grapefruit juice
Almond/carrot pate and cucumbers
Salad
Apple

Pretty good day all-in-all.

but hungry at night - my salads are not enough dinner
and don't want to over do the sunflower seeds any more than I am..and a fruit does not appeal to me at night

any suggestions for a good heavy-ish thing to eat at night?

an avocado might do it - but I am trying to limit myself to one a day in my salads - I know some of you eat several avos a day - but I also want to release weight - help!

had zucchini noodles and salad for dinner - maybe 2 zucchinis instead of one?

missing the "dense" feeling - but don't see anything in the market that looks
like it would do it ....trying to avoid crackers, etc..don't want to get bored and mess up

what's in this hummus you all eat????

Not much to say today as I must go to work in just a bit. I've eaten some more of my stir un-fry, a green smoothie with bananas and melon, and some dates.

As for hummos...I personally just use soaked chick peas instead of cokked ones, and then I add extra of all the other things (tahini/sesame seeds, olive oil, lemon juice, parsley, etc.) I've also heard of replacing the cooked chick peas with cashews, and this apparently is very good, although I've never tried it...too much fat for me, and cashews are expensive to buy raw.

Feeling really energetic and hoping to get a chance to run or something before I go to work, but I don't know if that will happen. But in the hopes that it will, I am keeping this post short!

Hi Rawfifi,

Add some more oils (coconut, olive), that will help with the full feeling.

The hummus I'm eating is made with zucchini and tahini, and some other ingredients. Most raw recipe books have a zucchini hummus recipe, and here's a thread with a recipe:

I'm not naming any names with what I said in regards to the cooked exceptions from time to time. In fact, Starfire, it appears that we seem to agree, but that we differ in our exceptions. I honestly did not mean the comment to be hostile, but I wanted people to see that more important than being able to carry the label of "100% raw" is that we stay healthy and vibrant. And...that those who are not actually 100% raw shouldn't claim to be. Just like a vegetarian who eats the occasional dairy product should not call herself a vegan, but she can still be happy with her specific breed of vegetarianism. All in all we spend entirely too much time on labels and specifics...that is all.

Off to an okay start here... My dog has still been barking at the birds flying into our window... so he'll be barking all day. Ick. I might lock him outside for the sake of my sanity if he doesn't watch it!

But... I had myself a potent green smoothie with a beet, the beet leaves, two bananas, some chard and a teaspoon of Vitamineral Green. Whoosh! That woke me up nicely! I'm hoping for a bit of cleanout this morning. ;)

AND LAST NIGHT I MADE THE IMITATION NESTLE CRUNCH. OH MY Goodness! If anyone has not checked out that recipe (it's floating around on the board), look it up.

I mean, WOW. Having stuff like that on hand makes it so it would be nearly impossible to feel even a tiny bit deprived.

:D Hi everyone,

Wow, this has only been almost 10 days and I can already see a big difference in how smooth my skin is (my husband noticed too) and my clothes are fitting looser! What a great feeling!

My birthday is coming up and my DH and DS are going to make me a raw cake - I gave them several recipes to choose from - can't wait!!:p

OK, foodwise... choc smoothie for breakfast, fruit for lunch and probably greens for supper...

Have a fruity raw day!;)

Wow, day 10 and here we are! Quite a celebration for all of us! I haven't been posting lately since I have been so busy lately. Then I go to NY for the weekend. The flight is during lunch time and what with the restrictions of what you can't and can carry-on, I am hoping they let me take some fruit and LaraBars. One of my coworkers told me that she couldn't take yogurt in the original container, I am not entirely sure where they draw the line of what is too "moist". I was hoping to take some guac and carrot sticks, but they might freak out at the creamy green guacamole. Holy moly!

I have been having days where I am not too hungry and days when I can't stop eating. They seem to coincide a bit with the weather (e.g. when it is a cold day I am more hungry). I can't wait for my hunger to balance out a bit. I have gone to bed a few nights still ravenous, but my stomach hurts from how much I have eaten so I have to stop. Probably a psychological thing that we will eventually get used to.

Well, everyone take care for the next few days and I will check in when I am back from vacation.

Good luck to everyone!

Good afternoon! It's warm here too, also low 70s, and very sunny. Wish I could take my students out for a walk!

Feeling a little tired right now, but felt AMAZING upon waking this morning, which was an unexpected surprise, and one I hope continues every day!

Protea, I too have noticed a differnece in my skin... A little softer, and not so frequent breakouts! I cannot wait until it's almost NO breakouts :)

Meals:
Breakfast: Pear, peach
Lunch: Oh My Chilli! (Last of it gone, something new tomorrow!)
Snack: Fruits from the fruit market
Dinner: I'm going to have another AMAZING GS, probably banana, pear, kale or romaine, and coconut oil, but it depends what veggies are at the market!

Hey Everybody,

Still battling this weird ugh mood and the very heavy pull of a cooked food coma. But I've been staying raw and hoping this thing works itself out of me soon, cuz it sucks.

Started the day with 3 raw chocolate truffles. I have kale chips in my dehydrator for later, and I hope they turn out well. The last time I made them I goofed on the timing and had to throw them all out. For lunch I brought a cool solution to my "I hate salad" issue. I chopped up carrots and broccoli in my food processor, and I'm going to mix in some of my salad dressing (it's the kale chips marinade with honey and avocado thrown in). Then I'm going to put the mixture on whole romaine leaves and wrap them up and eat them. I think it will be good, and will help me get in some veggies. Also, I made a cool thing this morning (I had to wait around for some repair folks, so got to spend some time in the kitchen--can't you tell? :D ). I made Alissa's Walnut Fudge recipe, but used soaked dates and doubled the honey (I also added salt). It makes this really yummy dip like thing, and I'm going to dip an apple in it and eat it. I think it will be awesome. :) I'm trying to shake up my food selection, since I was in such a rut. Anyway, then tonight for dinner I'm going to try kelp noodles with Alissa's alfredo sauce. The kelp noodles smelled really fishy when I put them in water to soak, so hopefully they won't taste fishy.

I'm hitting the gym after work for a super intense cardio class, then home for shower and dinner and then off to get a nice long massage. I WILL beat this detox, so help me, I WILL. :p

Carly, how much water are you drinking? Increasing intake might help to flush out whatever's bothering you. Just an idea. Hope you feel better soon. Making veggie wraps is a great idea to do battle with the salad mentality. I love avocado, grated carrot and zucchini wrapped in purple cabbage. With the creaminess of the avo, these may not even require a dipping sauce. :)

Rawfifi - if you're feeling hungry at night, definintely try 2 zucchinis instead of 1. You're only adding a few more calories and it will fill you up.

As for me, I had a delicious GS this a.m. made with banana, oranges, spinach, frozen peaches and raspberries. Mmmm....
I had RFRW granola for snack.
Lunch was a romaine salad with red bell pepper, avo, and spicy pepitas (used "Slap Ya Mama" Cajun seasoning instead of chili powder...think I like the chili powder a bit better).

Not sure what dinner will be - maybe zucchini noodles w/marinara.

Hope everyone has a great afternoon/evening! :D

I had a really productive day at work today with all the new-found energy I have. It's such a neat feeling. I had stuff I've needed to clear out and organize for ages, and I managed to get it all done today. Interesting thing how the body, spirit and mind work: my body was cleaning out a lot while I was cleaning out the office. I guess I was finally ready to release some things both inwardly and outwardly. :)

Here's what I had to eat today:

GS w/ chia seeds, bananas, blueberries and raw wheatgrass powder
2 Larabars
Sunflower seed pate with cucumbers and celery
Another HUGE GS
Some cacao nibs (probably helped with the energy!)
Probably will have some raw spaghetti and marinara when I get home

I ask because my brother had a mini-stroke last month and his cardiologist put him on Coumadin (blood thinner) and they are saying he will have to take it for the rest of his life. I am SO MUCH enjoying this clean raw state - and the timing of the beautiful spring weather is just amazing! Plus I have been sleeping better than I have in months!

planted mint, coriander, basil and thyme in my balcony garden yesterday - already have chives, rosemary, sage and sorrell .....I just love to gather herbs for my food preparation...there is not enough sun to grow any veg, tho - that has not worked in the past ...maybe some lettuce this fall...I might be able to grow some peas - or whatever grows on vines

thanks for the tips about eating more oil to satisfy hunger - it works!...also had dates/cashews/pistachios ground into a sort of bar...delish!!! I was soooo afraid that I would have a weight gain but had a small loss instead!! yeah!!

also made the zucchini fettucini with an avo/garlic/lemon sauce plus black olives - very nice!

I am lovin' this raw life - more than I ever dreamed I would

think I'll go out for another spin in the convertible today - look for some seeds to plant....I feel so blessed!

yes, coumadin is one of the drugs I no longer have to take

I HAD an irregular heartbeat, which made my risks for heart attack and stroke greater...on Jan 27 I had an procedure - cardioversion (electrical shock to the heart) which put my heart back in rhythm

because I am back in rhythm, I no longer need the coumadin - which is an awful drug to be on - your blood is so thin that you bruise with the slightest touch to the skin - I was on it for 5 months and had so many humongous bruises - including a BLACK EYE at one point - AND I had to have blood tests as often as once a week - it was not pleasant

the other risk with coumadin is that if one is in an accident he can bleed to death if not treated quickly - I definitely reommend your bro wear a medic alert bracelet in case of emergency

as he gets stronger, the docs may be able to put him on another blood thinner - aspirin, for example, thins the blood but clearly not the way coumadin does

in any case, I was SO SCARED having heart issues that I did EVERYTHING my doctors recommended - you just can't mess with that

I would definitely encourage your bro to make positive lifestyle changes - that can help to get his heart rate and blood pressure to normal

Happy Monday. I'm typing to the sound of tax returns printing - yeeHAW.

Green lemonade so far this a.m. Just got Alissa's Pizza Bread out of the D and put Alissa's Nut Brittle in. :) I've not made it before, but it was soooooo much simpler than the RFRW granola recipe.

Breakfast will be juicy sweet oranges
Snack: bananas
Lunch: Spanish rice
Dinner: Pizza Bread rolled around avo and veggies

Hi all, just checking in.

I have not posted in a couple of days because our internet connection at home is not working (Vonage). I am posting this from the public library.

Been enjoying eating simple foods and am absolutely gaga over legume sprouts -- chickpea, lentil, adzuki etc.

I've also been sleeping great and am very much enjoying my workouts. We went hiking in the mountains yesterday.

Everyone enjoy your day.

Hey Everybody!

I've been MIA from the board for a few days--sorry! I've stayed raw though, barely! It's been a white knuckle couple of weeks. This is day 74 for me without a slipup, and that's the longest I've ever gone. But I didn't expect it to be this hard. I think there are a couple of factors at work: 1. I've got a pretty high level of stress at the moment, and I'm not getting nearly enough sleep. 2. I've gotten very bored with my raw food. 3. I don't have any raw recipes that I love, so I don't really have any "treats" to turn to when I need a pick me up. 4. I think I'm still battling the emotional side of my relationship with food. Cooked food was my drug, and there are times when I really miss that warm hug feeling I would get from a giant plate of ______. I don't miss the guilt, the feelings of disgust, the intestinal issues, or the 58 pounds I've lost though. I know raw is the way, but I'm just having a rough month.

Anyway, I ate raw all weekend, even though there was tempting stuff around. I've also done a good job keeping up with my exercise. I exercised 5 days last week, and I'm proud of myself for that.

Today I started off with an apple pie lara bar because I was short on time. Then had a crazy hard workout class. I'm about to eat a banana and then head home for the afternoon. I'm hoping to either go to Whole Foods and get some prepared raw stuff or make some raw stuff in my own kitchen (maybe both). I'm trying to make new recipes to break out of this boredom thing.

Sorry to be so whiny!! At least I'm staying raw, right? And I've released 4.5 pounds already this month, so that keeps me going!

Was busy busy all weekend, and totally forgot to post! It's been great, though... Except my blender broke!! :(

It was just a standard blender, but now I'm blenderless and unable to afford a super nice aweosme one. I did find an older VitaMix, used but working, on eBay. Here's hoping it lasts longer --- everyone here says they last for decades!!

Anyways, today's food:

My last green smoothie probably until my new blender comes... I might be able to get onnnneee more out of my old one. It was good -- arugula, banana, apple.

Carrots w/salsa, an apple
Raw Fudge Balls (So good, even my SAD bf is addicted!)
And I'm making pesto to eat with tomatos for dinner!

Hey Rawfooders!!

I'm feeling better today, and got through yesterday without any cravings. I went to Whole Foods for lunch, and though they were still out of nori rolls, I had a raw tostada that was very tasty and very filling. Then I had cashews and kombucha in the afternoon, and fruit salad and raw carrot cake for dinner! It was a nut heavy day, but I'm okay with that.

Today I'm working from home because the boss man is out of town. Plus I have a lot of cleaning to do at the homestead because I'm having people over tomorrow night and I currently have stuff everywhere. Then I'm heading to the gym this afternoon for a really tough cardio class. I'm excited about that.

Foodwise, here's the plan: for breakfast I'll have a green smoothie. I burned out on them, so I haven't had one in a long time. This morning's should be good though: kale, bananas, strawberries, and orange juice. For lunch I have "happy tuna" from Whole Foods, which I may roll up in nori with some avocado and tomato. Dinner will probably be Alissa's fettucini alfredo.

I've got Ani Phyo's sesame seed bread in the dehydrator now, just crisping up. Mine doesn't look at all like hers does in the picture, and I think next time I make it I may change it a little bit. But here's hoping it tastes good!

Rawk on everyone, it sounds like you all are doing really well!!

I'm enjoying romaine with Alissa's Dressing and Pizza Bread w/guac for lunch. Have bananas for snack and will likely have a corn salad for dinner.

I've let go of a couple lbs. this month but my major accomplishment so far is that the 2 little age spots I had on my face are GONE. :D Woot!

Today I thank God for showing me the way to raw. Hope everyone has a marvelous day.

Hi all. I started going raw a little late this month, but I have completed 9 days 100% raw! My question is that I am still tired and not full of energy like I was hoping. I did one week raw over a year ago and what I remember most was that I had so much energy. I even jumped out of bed, literally, before my alarm went off. This time around, I am really slugglish when getting out of bed and am ready for a nap mid morning and mid afternoon. Not sure what is going on. I'm exercising daily as well. Any clues????? Rest of the day probably fruit and oh yes, I soaked and dehydrated buckwheat, then mixed some with almond butter and agave - and it was heaven!! Now I only need to order more chocolate powder so I can make the Nestle crunch!!;)

A little low on cash so it will take a while to replenish my fridge with veggies...

Yesterday:

Apple slices with almond butter, cinnamon, and raisins... So good!

Broccoli and carrots dipped in homemade tahini dressing with paprika and pine nuts.

Chocolate covered strawberries. (Yes, 100% raw!)

Orange

Raisins

Brazil nuts

Today so far:

Fruit plate with sliced apples and oranges

Later I plan on having...

Hopefully some sort of makeshift green smoothie with whatever I have left in the fridge or a nice salad with mixed spring greens and a whole bunch of veggies, avocado, and tahini sauce or olive oil and lemon juice.

Then I will probably snack on some more fruit... Chocolate covered or not..:D

Hi all. Back from NY trip. I was pretty good. It was interesting eating out the whole time and not having the comforts of home to go back to, to eat more of my own food. I "chose" to eat a few nibbles of cooked items (one per day). I was pretty proud of myself though, because I was the only raw foodist and I was able to stay strong given all the conditions.

Right now having some major gastro issues. I had my colon removed for health reasons a while back. I have also been fighting an intestinal infection for a while now, and the high fiber in the raw food can aggravate things sometimes. So, right now I am trying to eat just soft and low fiber things like bananas and avos. Hopefully it will clear up soon. Had a pretty rough night last night. Bummer, I was doing so well and my darn intestines have to act up now. I suppose nothing good comes easy....

Love you all and wish you much happiness and rawness.

I am trying a simple smoothie tomorrow since I'm out of my smoothie staple, which is fresh orange juice.

I'm going to make a smoothie out of banana, water and clover sprouts. I will let you all know how it goes!

As for your weight question, it's different for everybody. I've been at 100% for eight weeks now and have lost four pounds. I was already slim though (and am not trying to lose weight) so I am losing at a much slower rate than someone who has more to lose.

Then again, I've heard overweight people on this board talk about how it took them a long time to lose, because in the meantime their body was focusing on healing. Frustrating for them in the short run, satisfying and beneficial in the long run. So it's different for everyone.

Good morning everyone!! I've been missing posting on the boards some, but still raw and loving the new energy that I've got. It's been awhile since I could say that, even if I was raw, even 100%, it seemed I just didn't get the energy I expected!! I am looking forward to trying new things the end of this month, and I want to spend alittle more time searching the boards ideas!!

mmaynard: great to see you! I haven't checked my email yet to see if you've mailed me, but wanted to let you know I'm glad you're here!! I've been mia alittle lately, still raw, just too busy to get on the computer!!

Banshee: When you mention eating zuke and beet chips, are those raw or dehydrated?? Just wondering, I've never thought of slicing a beet to use as a chip, and eating the zukes just sliced never occurred to me either!

YayaAnanas: I want to know how you did the chocolate.....I love strawberries and they are in season right now, so I would love this!!! YUMMY, my mouth is drooling this morning just thinking about it!

sriraw: do you drink green smoothies?? Just wondering if getting your veggies this way would help your intestines??

Well, I'm off to look for some new ideas!

Today's food will be:
B: large fruit bowl
L: salad (oops, we will probably eat with family because our belove aunt died on Monday and we will attend her service today. I will take a lara bar, a banana to hold me over until I can eat more)
Dinner: salad.....a large, green one!!

My family is going camping this weekend, it is the first time I haven't made a bunch of stuff to take with me!! I'm going to rely on fresh produce, and just the flax crackers I've already made. I'm not nervous, because I know it's foods that I'm used to eating everyday!

I may not be able to post this weekend, DH might take our laptop with us though because the campground we are members of has Wi-Fi!! We aren't "roughing it" so I'm pretty confident I'll be fine with fresh foods, salads and such this weekend!

Ya'll have a great day!!

Last month avocados where my favourites - now im fine without- not even have a desire to try. My smoothies are very savoury but not creamy - light texture from greens, some onion, some baby carrots, garlic and basil for the taste. Plus some yeast and kelp, I absolutely have to have my green salad - last 3 months i wasn't really into it. Not sure why but dates are out and so the figs. Bananas and apples are strong. Looking for receipes for dressings.

Hey Everybody!

It sounds like everyone is doing really well. I had a triumph yesterday that I just have to share. I had my small group over to my house for dinner, and I made one of my absolute favorite cooked meals. There was a ton left over, because a couple of people couldn't make it at the last minute. I could easily have kept the leftovers and then gorged on them when everyone left. But instead, I sent them home with people so that not a scrap or crumb of cooked food was left in my house! And honestly, the food didn't even look good to me. I didn't want it at all!! That was huge, especially with the cravings roller coaster I've been on lately. So hooray!

The one drawback is that I kept waking up last night thinking I was about to throw up. What was that about?! I don't know.

Food yesterday:
Big green smoothie: kale, cashews, bananas, orange juice, vanilla. Yum!
Almonds
guacamole with corn on Ani's sunflower/sesame bread
Exercise: super tough workout class, but I am the lead runner now--when we started, I was way in the back!

Food today:
I'm hungry, but my stomach still feels weird. So all I've had so far is an orange. I have a big jug of green smoothie, which I may dip into in a minute. It's kale, strawberries, bananas, mango, and coconut oil. Then I'm hitting an intense cardio class between work and an evening meeting. I have cashew cheesecake to nibble on after class.

Keep on rawking!!

Happy Friday! Things are going well here. I'm starting off my morning with a vegetable smoothie. I added in green leaf lettuce, carrots and a tomato. It tastes really fresh but doesn't have too much flavor. I think it's missing celery, but I didn't have any on hand.

I have some really sweet grapes and a plum to bring to work with me. I'm planning on a salad at lunch to get in some more greens today. Yesterday was a heavy fruit day, and today I am craving greens.

I forgot to mention earlier in the week that I went to the hair salon. My stylist wanted to know what I was doing differently because my hair had never been so soft! (Now if I can just get rid of the premature grays!) ;) Anyway, that made me feel good.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Yay for you Michelle!! I think that is wonderful about your hair! I also think it's great that your body is craving more greens, mine is too because the last few days have been light on greens, but I know camping this weekend will be heavy on the salads. I have thought about taking my blender and having smoothies, but it's really only for 2 mornings.....

Today will be a smoothie with a fresh (not frozen) banana, some spinach, and frozen blueberries and maybe some stevia!
I will also have some warm tea
Lunch will be a salad and so will dinner. I need to find a quick dressing from Alissa's book, hopefully to carry with me, but if I don't, I will just have a squeeze of lemon or limes, those are always easy!!!

I am feeling so great, and I can't wait to make it through 3 or 4 months raw....I know the energy will just be great!

Everyone have a great weekend, I won't be able to post again until later Sunday or Monday morning!

Keep it raw.

Good day rawbies!!

I'm in a lot of pain today, but my mood is good. I've spent the last four hours on the couch with an ice pack, and it feels good to just be still for a while. I had a painful skin procedure, which I won't go into, but it was ouchy!! Anyway. Food today has been weird, but good. Started with celery and carrots at my niece's school. Then had a big slice of cashew cheesecake without the crust. Then had a glass of green smoothie, later a handful of cashews. Now I'm munching on an orange and a big bowl of grapes. For dinner I have pumpkin seed cheese on flax crackers or Ani's bread. I need to make some onion bread tomorrow; I miss it.

I'm having thoughts of pasta and cheese, but I'm just remembering that there was a post on here that there's some compound in cheese that acts on the body like morphine. Somehow knowing that I'm only craving the pain relief helps. And these juicy fruits are hitting the spot right now. Plus, my order of MSM capsules finally came today, so I'm hoping that will help me heal. Well, back to my ice pack!

Stay raw!! It's so worth it!! Have I mentioned my skin is finally clearing up? Woohoo!!!

Yeah, where are all the rawbies?? Come back friends!!

I'm here and raw. Finally got a really long sleep in last night, so I'm feeling good. So far today I've had some green smoothie. I'm jonesin for some juice, so I may go get some in a bit. I've got a lot of food in the house, but all I seem to want is fresh fruit and salads, so that's probably what I'll be eating for today and tomorrow.

Well, better get to the store.

love to all!

Hi everyone.

I started with 100% on April 15th officially- it was the time for me to start and I didnt want to wait until May. I have been about 80-90% for a while now. I have had problems with weight gain and such so I am trying to level all of that off, but it was a bummer and hard to stick with it because of that fact.

I think I was eating too many nuts and dehydrated breads and meals with oils, etc because I was working for a raw food restaurant. I am trying to have many more greens and green juices now instead of convienence raw foods.

I hope all of you are having a great weekend.

Hi everyone,
I've not posted for a while so I just wanted to touch base with everyone. Things seem very quiet these days on the Raw Food Talk board, anyway I wish you all a raw and fabulous new week. Blessings

Yes, it's another quiet weekend...everyone will be back during the week to keep on with keeping it raw!

Wow, I can't believe we only have 10 days left to complete this challenge... I 'm already looking forward to the next one!!:D
This morning I had my usual choc/banana smoothie, an avocado and mango for lunch, and planning to try a strawberry coconut smoothie later. I also tried some beautiful wild greens from my garden - ate one leaf and it tasted great! Not sure what it is, but I'm fine so sure it's edible..

Have a great day everyone!!

Week THREE everyone!!

Has anyone else noticed a pattern here? When the challenges first start out, there are like a TON of posts...but the closer it gets to the end, it starts dwindling down!

I mean, look at how many posts there were on today and yesterday compared to the first couple days! Just wondered if anyone else noticed that as it seems to occur every month.

Good morning everyone! I had a really busy weekend and am almost glad to be going back to work this morning so I can relax a little. ;) I'm starting off this morning with another pina colada (pineapple, orange and coconut oil). I really can't get enough of those over the last few days! Also on the menu for today: plums, orange, big salad at lunch and some pecans.

I woke up early this morning to exercise - I think it gave me a boost of energy and I'm looking forward to the day. I am getting a much needed massage tonight after work. :)

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning raw friends! I was super raw this weekend - due to hotter weather! I had fresh strawberies, papya, bananas and light green parsley smoothie! I feel super light today:)
