Do many of you really watch the food combining that closely?

I don't "watch" it at all and I don't worry. If there's a concern about something, I'll take care of it. Worrying is non-productive. :)

Not at all! I follow what my instinct and body say to me. If I eat something and it makes me feel horibble, I will rethink it, although I pay close attention to what it was I did around that time too. I am already eating so healthy, I feel there is no need to keep restricting myself so that I feel like I live in a box.

Yes, I am mindful about which foods I combine, but I don't always follow the suggested chart. Although, I have been trying to seperate my fat intake from my fruit intake, since the fats supposedly cause the fruits to putrefy in our system... ANd I personally like the idea of fruit's cleansing properties.
I have alot of stomach problems though, and am prone to stomach aches, so I don't really have much choice but to be conscientious about combining foods, seeing as though certain combinations are intrinsically 'deadly'! I find, though, that if I eat slower and chew my food really well, I can circumvent some of the drastic consequences... Unless someone has a sensitive stomach like me, I'd suggest they take advantage of that, relax and enjoy their food...:D

I don't think about it too much, but I do try to follow the guidelines during each meal. I don't wait a set amount of hours between each food group though. For me, I try to make it a natural thing. If I'm giving it a second thought, I'm thinking about it too much. If my food combining isn't perfect, then oh well, I'll know why I'm having stomach problems-I'm not, so I'm not concerned. Don't worry. It takes the joy out of eating.

I watched what I combined for a while when I first started eating raw, but it got to be a little much, and there were foods that I wanted to eat together like flax crackers & guacamole (supposed to be bad food combining) so now I just eat whatever sounds good together and don't worry about it. So far, no problems. :)

Hey there,
The only thing I really pay attention to is to eat fruit first or by itself, but besides that I really do not. Lori

Weak stomachs run in my family.
My grandmother has the same issues as me. She always warned me as a kid when I was eating melon to "eat it alone, or leave it alone." Well, one time I didn't follow her advice, and I ate melon with some almonds and some green beans, and felt really really sick and bloated for days.
I find that I don't have to follow food combining rules as long as I eat only two-three foods per meal. Those GS that people make with ten kinds of greens, four kinds of fruit and some coconut oil and superfoods thrown into the mix really don't sit well with me!
That said, I don't always follow my own advice, and I take the consequences. And as zig_zag mentioned, eating slowly, chewing your food until it is liquid, and breathing really help with all kinds of digestive issues. Some people just have strong stomachs, and can eat whatever, whenever. Not me!

i don't worry about it. i too did it when i first started and then i just tossed in the towel and allowed my desires to guide me instead.
for the most part (i have a digestive system which can be cranky) i don't have any problems at all on raw.
i wonder if it's because of SAD food that food combining is more important. you know, all the potatoes, rice, bread, meat, bad oils etc?

I think until YOU'VE reached YOUR lifetime overall raw %, this is basically a non-issue. AFTER that, if you want to improve and 'refine' your diet for better digestion - then this is one tool. I have eaten that way for many years, and enjoy a more thorough digestion. This is my experience / opinions only.

That's a good thought, David--sort of like raw food, advanced class. I don't worry too much about combining, and I'm also lousy at mono eating. I just can't resist VARIETY. But I hear the invitation to SIMPLIFY, so maybe I'll clean up my act a bit as I go along. It's all about process.....;)

The only thing I do is that I don't mix fruit and fat except for the occasional citrus juice with avocado and I always eat melons completely by themselves.
This has been more in keeping with listening to how my own body reacts when I didn't follow those principles vs. actually worrying about following any rules. When I first went raw I could get away with mixing fruit and fat all the time and I felt great. The longer I was raw and the cleaner my body got, the less tolerant it became of less than ideal combinations. I HATE not feeling well, so I quickly learned that I prefered to listen to my body.
Always just use your body as your guide. You CAN trust it!

I started doing food combining after reading the Diamonds book "Fit for Life" in the mid '80's and I have gotten great benefits from it. Doing food combining is a habit for me and I practice food combining to this day.
