I will be getting alissas book by the end of the week and i intend to try her recipies....i have julianos as well.
which of these meatloafs is closest to the real thing?
I was a meat eater and i loved it...but it never agreed with me....but I LOVED the taste of beef. (sorry my vegan friends)
I dont intend to eat meat anymore....for a variety of reasons.....but i would like to have something like that.
what 'meat and potatoes' recipe do you think is a close approximation of the real thing.
thanks so much

I've never tried Juliano's meatloaf recipe, but I've heard a lot of good raves about it here on this very board!
Now, I have tried Alissa's and I must say it is quite tasty. I didn't do it as a loaf, though...I followed the lead of RawPriestess and made burger patties out of it instead. It's pretty hearty. I even made her barbeque sauce (which was more like ketchup to me) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I won't say it's exactly like "real" meat, but it's good when you want something hearty and more substantial.

Thats sounds good Rawkinlocs....its the 'hearty' that i am after. you know...a nice warm meal and a good glass of red wine. And i do agree about the patties....that would make more sense. I am looking forward to trying the recipe. thanks

I've made Juliano's AND Alissa's and like them both. I also didn't make the loaf out of Alissa's yet made roll-ups out of it as I couldn't wait for it to dehydrate. Yummy!

I've made Juliano's recipe and loved it. I have made it several times. I now freely substitute with whatever I have in the frig. I don't measure too much either. It always turns out great for me. Also, only the first time did I put on some kind of tomato sauce over the top, like Juliano does. It tasted great, but I guess I am lazy and just dehydrtate without the sauce.

I remember trying Juliano's and it took quite a while - didn't have my dehydrator at the time and used the oven with the light bulb trick. It was dissapointing. The time it took to make it and I didn't like the taste or texture at all.
