Hello all! Newbie here...

I just bought all sorts of new raw foods and I have no idea what the best way to store them is.

Here is a list of my foods
(all grains are whole)
flax
hard red winter wheat
oats
sesame seeds
buckwheat

shredded coconut
dried apricots
prunes
goji berries
goldenberries
dried mango

macadamia nuts
pecans
almonds
walnuts
pumpkin seeds

dulse
kelp powder
maca
grey sea salt
cacao powder
cacao nibs

sun dried tomatoes

Here are my storage options: fridge, freezer, airtight glass jars w/rubber seal, glass jars w/ metal lids, glass jars w/loose glass lids, airtight ceramic containers, ziploc bags, brown paper bags.

So, what do I put where?? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Adria

I suppose it depends on how much you bought, how fast you'll go through it and how it is packaged.

For instance... I used to buy bulk nuts/seeds. I put them in one of those thin plastic bags to bring home. I'd buy enough for a month or two at a time. Sometimes more if they were on sale. I stored these in canning jars with the one piece plastic lids that you buy separately. If I bought quite a lot, I stored the extras in the freezer.

Now I can get all of the nuts and seeds I want at the health food store. It's conveniently located next to my daughter's dance studio. I am there most weeks 4 times a week. The stuff comes packaged in thick, zippered bags. I buy it as needed. Same with the goji berries. I store at room temp.

The rest of your stuff should be fine at room temp. Repackage if you think you need to.

I keep the majority of my ingredients in the fridge/freezer and I vacuum seal them, but I do keep my ground flax for the week in a ziplock, and any cut up veggies in airtight containers. Cacao should be kept away from light for best storage, and dried fruit I keep in the fridge too because I want it to last, usually I just keep it in it's original plastic packaging, but glass would probably be better from what I hear.
These storage methods have really helped the shelf life of my foods since I'm the only one in my house eating raw... hope this helped.

I bought a case of BTC's - how long are they ok sitting at room temperature? Should I refrigerate them? (this post and the post with people's food storage photos got me thinking)

I also have a brown hairy mature coconut in the fridge (I need to do something with that - any suggestions?)

My current favorite thing to do with mature coconut is ... dig out all the meat, put it in my vitamix with aprox. 4 cups water (including the coconut water) and a couple handfuls of dates and a vanilla bean, blend, strain through a nut milk bag and put it in my ice cream maker ... DELISH! It's so good I can get my kids to pick the meat out of as many coconuts as I want, they LOVE it.

Blessings,
Heather
