Anyone have any tips on getting the meat off the shell w/o slicing yourself? ouch. I do it everytime.

I take a thin, strong and flexible butter knife and insert it between the shell and meat and seperate it that way.

I've used the method above... and I've also used a spoon to work it outta there.... it can be stubborn at times!

I always cut myself as well! I need to buy some grapefruit spoons - that should help with old coconuts.

I've been using a butter knife or spoon too. I guess I just need to be more careful.
Thanks :)

coconuts are tricky! i use the spoon and butter knife as well, seems a common sense thing to do. i've found most people dont bother with coconuts themselves anymore, buying the bagged shredded stuff instead because of the hassle.
