Ladies,
I am having the worst TOM (time of month--) since probabaly middle school. I am in such PAIN and it's really really heavy as well. I find this odd because I would think that being raw would help ease the pains typically caused. However, it doesn't seem to be the case. This is my first TOM since starting raw and I'm curious what your experiences were with this or anyone had the same thing... helppp I'm in pain and trying to resist taking pain killers but it's about to get the best of me!!
thanks in advance!!

I'm having that as well and I once read on here someone suggested it may be like a detox of your female functions. Just a thought.

My first period after going raw almost killed me! After that, the next 3 have been easy and painless.(knock on wood) I thought perhaps I was detoxing hormonally since i'm no longer using dairy and taking in all those foreign hormones. Be gentle on yourself and if you must take a pill, it isn't the end of the world. Feel Better!

It will get better! It took me 3 months of 100%, but now they are so painless and light.
I'm in my 20s, too. Since this is your first one after going RAW, patience is key! The TOMs will definitely get better!
I just went through one a couple of days ago with backpain & serious bloatiness! :p

Hi! I'm 18. My first two periods after going raw were HORRIBLE, very painful and very heavy. But I made it through them without taking any painkillers. My third period on raw was about normal. My fourth period on raw was GREAT, no cramps whatsoever, and the flow wasn't too heavy. You can read more about my testimony here http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=39389 .
Stick with it, raw and no painkillers, because your body is detoxying now! You are in pain because you are HEALING YOURSELF! I'm sending you lots of love and I hope you feel better soon.

I agree, your body is detoxing. My first TOM was horrible as well then after that they were lighter and not much of pain.
You can make it through and it will be worth it.

My first since going raw suprised me. Which is odd. I usually always know by feeling like crap and being super moody. We'll see how it goes this month.

I had the same experience many others did--my first couple after going 100% were really painful, but then they became freakishly easy. Before raw, I had PMDD (PMS on crack), but now my moods are stable (other than one day of just not being as chipper as usual) and the cramps are minimal and only last one day. I used to be hijacked by my period for two weeks out of every month. Now I often forget about it completely! Raw is nothing short of miraculous. So hang in there!!
Also, enemas help get the toxins out.

I'm in my fourth week of raw, and about a week late for my period. I'm usually fairly regular (for about a year), and I'm 99.5% positive I'm not pregnant. Kind of wierd, since I may have lost a pound or two, but nothing significant enough to cause amennorhea (sp?)
Okay here's something else kind of wierd. I stopped nursing my 23 month old daughter about a month ago, the week before going raw. I'm still making milk! I'm not engorged but in the shower, I noticed it - some is thin and blue white but more of it is thick yellow, like colostrum! Is my body just in super production mode in case I give in to my little girl (she'd sure be happy!) or am I cleaning house? Anyone with experience with this?

Not uncommon for your periods to be late and/or very irregular once you've stopped bf. The let down in the shower is also normal ~ Cathy

Hey RBB,
Adding add a different spin to the already great responses here: since i've gone raw i feel more present in my every moment, which means when pain arises in my physical body I FEEL IT like I've never felt it before. I'm realizing that when I ate SAD I used to numb my pain with food and drugstore pain meds which most people consider normal. in hindsight, i see that was absolute madness! I was never living NOW always numbing numbing numbing.
i've learned to address headaches and cramps with natural things like hot and cold water packs too.....these feel so great like a very gentle way of taking good care of myself, instead of violently with drugs (might as well just yell shut up and hit it with a pain med until it's dead)
I wouldnt take the pain med. stick it out. look at it as a challenge and an exercise in pain tolerance. i know people will think this is harsh but the reason i say this is because of the common wisdom splashed all over this board: when you're in pain, it means you're healing. if you douse it with a drug or SAD food, you have to start all over again. a friend of mine always says: what are you gonna do, give your body nutella to throw on it and ask it to fix it? i find this hilarious :D , and so true!
it really is true "if you slip you slip" but i'm so happy to see you're trying your damnest not to!
keep us posted,
Pitaya
