Sounds like it just needs to ripen. The skin will deepen to a darker shade of green and the flesh will give, but is really shouldn't be mushy. You may even notice it giving off a soft fragrance as it ripens. I've never eaten the skin as it's pretty tough. And you'll find seeds throughout the pulp on the inside. A good cherimoya will be akin to a yummy custard. Ooo, now I want one :)
You can often times find them at International markets as well...

Yeah, let it ripen. Put it in a bag with an onion or apple and it should ripen faster (at least, this works with bananas...). I tried one once, it was like $5 or $6 and I found it sooo disgusting. Let us know how you like it.

OMG... I LOOOOOVE cherimoya!!! I think yours needs to ripen a bit though -- all the advice you've gotten is right on... it will give off a wonderful delicate aroma, it will soften as you press it -- it will give slightly -- and no  -- don't eat the skin! :D
save me a piece!!! Yummm!!!
