Hello,
I am 28 years old, mother of 2, and life partner for 8 years.
My father introduced me to raw about 10 years ago. That's when he began reading all the books, the first being Fit for Life, by Harvey Diamond, which is a variation of a mostly raw diet. He passed it on to everyone in the family.
I have never liked the taste of meat, nor the idea of it, even as I child. My mom supplemented with cottage cheese......
I believe my body has been telling me from the beginning how it has wanted to eat, but I haven't been completely listening/ignoring it.
I don't have any major health concerns (knock on wood). I am about 50 pounds over my ideal weight, which sounds like a lot, but most people think I look just right. Most people being the population with a %25 obesity rate. SAD.
I also want to influence my children's eating habits as they are still young. They love smoothies, even green smoothies and fruit, but whenever they are given candy or cookies, or macoroni, and I am the culprit sometimes, I admit, it really pains me. They don't know what is good for them, but I do and I need to live up to that responsibility.
I have read many books, been soaking up info from many raw sites for years.
Now its time to take the plunge and reap the benefits, before I do develop diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc.
I just found out about a Raw retreat 30 miles north of me, in Sedro Woolley. Sometimes I feel so alone when it comes to eating raw, I think that is a reason why it has taken so long to commit.
I look forward to creating a network in the raw community, and to make some friends both locally, and in the "CYBER" world.
Cheers

Welcome and go to the retreat. U aren't alone in your journey, thoughts, etc. Enjoy the ride and under search you will find answers to many questions you may have. You seem to have a knowledge base after perusing the site and reading your book(s). Good Luck. What state are you from? Is it Tx. or Virginia? If it's Tx. there are quite a few here from the Lone Star state!! Take care.

Washington State. Thank you, have you ever been to a retreat? It would be a great way to start, although around $2,000. Bummer.

HEY!!! I KNOW YOU!!! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/tha857f08c.gif

For a long time I thought I was alone in my journey too... and then was surprised to find there are a lot of people that follow this LIFEstyle in one form or another... Now we have a PotLuck once a month and more and more people are coming... they may not be 100% raw -- but they are all starting where they feel comfrotable - and that's wonderful!

and as far as the price for the retreat... you'd be surprised what miracles can happen when you set your mind and heart to it!!

I never EVER in a million years EVER thought I would be able to afford flying all the way from Hawaii to Maine ... pay for a hotel -- along with paying for the Certification Classes with Alissa.... it was a far away dream that I (painfully) thought would never come true...

and then -- miracles of miracles.... it all fell into place and I am now a Certified Raw Food Chef, teacher and Instructor ... I graduated from Alissa's Certification classes in January of this year!... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/thdancegirl1.gif whOoOo whOoOo!!

You're gunna do great on this journey... you have a beautiful heart and lots of determination!!

RAWk on and Welcome ... I'm so glad you have joined us!!

It was sooo nice to read your introduction and get to know you. So the question I have......is your Dad raw, since he introduced you to it. I hope you love the RFT. Judith

jacsam: Yes, my dad has been raw for awhile. He is one of those that don't put much thought into it, it just works for him. He doesn't go to potlucks, doesn't use the web, doesn't even talk about it too much, although you may find a bags of fruit on your door step at any given time. He has never tried any raw gourmet. Basically, he eats carrot juice, bananas, avocados, oranges, and apples, in their whole form. Some nuts. He is an inspiration.

Yes, Hello :) and Good Morning!
What a great experience to be certified by Alissa. I've seen her in some interviews and she is amazing! And down to Earth. I NEED to get her book!

I am in awe at your transformation and dedication to raw. I bet being a raw teacher is such a fulfilling way to keep "on the boat", and of course the fact that raw Heals your body, no matter how much abuse it has taken.

Okay, so here is my first "one", the little saying I love that you guys use......it makes me smile......RAWK ON Starfire.
