I was all set to save up for a 4500 vitamix and now I'm not sure.
Will the 4500 break down the cell walls of greens? It sounds like I need a 3 hp blender, and I'm not even sure if Vitamix sells them???
Will the 4500 do homogenizing too? i.e. nut butters?
Do I need a wet and dry container, or will it do both??
The more I research the more confused I get

Why the 4500? That's an old model. Why not get the 5000 or 5200?
You'll only use the wet container, which is what comes with the machine. No need to get the more advanced ones.
I can do flax seeds - ground up - in my vita-mix 5000. :)
My smoothies are super smooth... smoother than I ever tasted before. So... I can't answer your question, but I sure think it does.

**sticks out tongue at Recycling Goddess** :P
I can grind flax in my 4500 too! So, "nah-na-na-na-nahhh"! :D
But seriously, the 4500 does a lot...it does break down the cell of the greens but I'm not sure if it makes nut butter as I've not attempted it. But I grind flax into flax meal, nuts into flour and oat groats into flour...no "dry container"...just the one that it comes with.

I thought the 4500 b/c that's what Alissa sells.

I love my vitamix 4500. It grinds flax, makes super-smooth smoothies, and makes nut butters. I'm bringing it with me to college next year!
I have the 4500. It's GREAT. I ordered mine from Alissa. :)

the 5200 jar is also made from some other plastic that doesn't have some chemical that is supposed to be toxic. goneraw had a big thread about it.
