I have made tahini a few times in my vitamix, adding extra oil to make it spoonable, rather than sesame flour.

I decided to try my greenstar, which has made almond butter for me in the past. But the sesame seeds came out very powdery.

Has anyone made tahini as nice and gooey as the kind sold in jars? Why don't they have to add extra oil?

Raw sesame seeds are unhulled - meaning the hulls have not been removed. They are intact.

I've been told that hulled sesame seeds are not raw. Is this always true?

The jars of raw tahini are made from hulled (hulls removed) sesame seeds.

Perhaps that is why it is creamier with no added oil.

Question: Are the hulled seeds they use to make raw tahini raw? I enjoy raw tahini by Artisana and they claim that their tahini is raw. Perhaps they use a special hulling process?

anyone know??

I just had a recipe that called for mechanically-hulled raw tahini. That may be the true "raw" process for the seeds.
