I always put my spinach in first...with some water and blend away to really get the spinach liquified...then I add frozen bananas and frozen blueberries....and maybe a squeeze of agave or honey if it's not sweet enough. In the beginning I needed it really sweet, now, not so much. Sometimes I even add ground flax!

4 big handfulls of Kale
1 or 2 Bananas
2 cups Water

Blend until smooth
Then add cup of ice and blend until it's like a Slurpee
I pour it into a huge & fancy goblet and enjoy.

I made this recently and fell completely in love with it:

2 frozen bananas
juice of 4 oranges (you could put the entire peeled orange in but it'll change the consistency)
a few BIG handfuls of baby spinach (maybe 5 cups or more)
about 1 1/2 handfuls of frozen strawberries

Blend well until smooth

Super Delish!

I also love a "savory smoothie". I love spinach, water pulverized. Then add:
about 2-3 roma tomatoes or about the same amount of other kind of tom.
1 celery stalk diced
1/2 to 2 cucumber peeled and chopped
1 avo
1 clove garlic
spices like: sea salt, parsley, basil, chili powder

This is more like soup!! It's great if you are tired of all the bananas and fruit! It sometimes, if you don't add too much water, could pass as chili!

Have fun.

I tried the one with blueberries, banana's, spinach of tvillemom, it is great. I have also added parsley to it. This is one I can do because it is low acid. Tasted great!

That savory smoothie sounds great tvillemom! I'm going to make it tomorrow morning as I don't always like sweet stuff right when I wake up.

victoria boutenko's:

kale (about 4 leaves, stems in makes it more bitter)
4 apples
1/2 lemon (keeping rind gives sharp taste, i don't recommend)
2 cups water

= YUM!!!

it doesn't taste 'greeny' or 'weedy' at all. i can't get enough, and i get more than my apple a day : )

I have another question now.... I just happened to be in a bookstore today and picked up The Raw Transformation. I have Alissa's book ordered also. In this book it mentions not combining fruits and veggies... I see so many of you do it in your smoothies, is there any problem in doing that? I don't know if I could do the green smoothie without some fruit in it.

I have heard many people recommend that fruit be eaten on its own and on an empty stomach since fruit is very quickly digested and, taken with other foods, it may be "blocked" in your digestive system "waiting" for the slower digesting food to pass and, meanwhile, fermenting and spoiling with the rest of the food in your system.

I don't really know much about it but, seeing as you are already processing your food by pureeing it in the blender/food processor/vitamix , you are probably in the clear in terms of any block in digestion.

** Please correct me if any of this is wrong, this is only what I have learned in recent months researching raw lifestyles.

I found this food combining chart that may be of interest to you:

Oh, and my favorite green smoothie is:

Kale
Spinach
Apple
2 Bananas
Mixed berries
Some chunks of pineapple

(enough for 2 days)

:p I thought I was moving so I sold my Vita mix to a good friend of mine. Big mistake, I can't move if I can't take the Vita mix LOL. I had serious seperation anxiety, turns out I can't live without my morning green smoothie. My fav is Spinach and frozen mango, water and a couple pieces of ice. I named it SPANGO!

By the way Raene where in upstate new york are you from, I'm from plattsburgh!!!
