Hello!
I am new to this board, and have really enjoyed reading posts and learning about all of you!
Can you tell me your best sources for raw organic nuts and seeds? I use lots of almonds, sunflower seeds, dates, etc, and it seems like I am forever running to 4 seasons, which is way out of my way, to stock up.
I would love to find a good place online that has relatively good prices where I can buy in quantity.
Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give me, and I look forward to getting acquainted with other raw folks!
A wonderful raw day to you,
Alicia

I get my nuts/seeds from Bulk Foods.com http://www.bulkfoods.com/search_results.asp?txtsearchParamCat=33&txtsearchParamType=ALL&txtsearchParamMan=ALL&txtsearchParamVen=ALL&txtFromSearch=fromSearch&txtsearchParamTxt=1630
They have a large selection of naturat raw nuts and a small selection of organic items as well.

The freshness of these nuts are wonderful. One time I left some of their pistachios in the freezer about a year-and-a-half and they were bursting with flavor, even after that long.
I just received a shipment, actually, and, again, they don't disappoint: http://www5.mailordercentral.com/goldminenaturalfood/
Here is another source; I haven't bought from them, but may in the future: http://www.diamondorganics.com

Instead of running to a store more often than you like, especially one that is out of your way, why not try investing that gas you are using (or shipping cost for ordering online) in a small freezer, if you need extra space, or a vacuum storage bag system. You might even get away with buyig those bags that you seal clothing in by sucking out the air with a vacuum cleaner. You could put a lot of nuts in individual gallon ziplock bags and fill the clothes bag with them. Then when you need some, release the air, fill a large container for your kitchen, and reseal the whole bag. :D

I completely agree. That's my point exactly. I have lots of freezer space, and am looking for a supplier that is reasonable so I can stock up, and save on time.....and gas.....and energy.....etc, etc. Hence my original plea for a good resource!

costco has almonds, pecans, walnuts, and pine nuts all raw, and online too.
They are the least expensive by far.

I went to www.costco.com and couldn't find any nuts or seeds. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thank you for the tip!
This brings me to my next question. How important is it to eat all organic? That has been one of my biggest challenges with my "raw adventure." I know that the nuts at Costco are not organic, and I'm not sure how important that is.
Thanks so much for any advice!

Dear Autumn,
sorry if I misinformed. I buy at the store Costco, and I know they have loads of stuff for sale on their website.
So I just ASSUMED that they had their nuts on their website, and you know what Assume means? OOPS
you could call them, I do know they deliver, and will ship almost anywhere.
so hope this helps.
Love6kids:
YES, unfortunately they are NOT organic.
Sometimes I go for organic, sometimes I don't.
I think it is important to eat what "feels" right to you.
I can't be sure, but from what I've heard eating organic nuts is not as important as say eating organic spinach, because the more moisture in the food the more the chemicals get in.
NOW, this isn't gospel, but this is one of the many things I've heard about organic, that is why organic fruits and veggies are so important, but the organic wheat isn't.
Again, this is what I've heard, or read.
But, it is I am sure much better to eat all organic if at all possible.

our Costco carries nuts, too, but none of them say they're raw....

Do they way roasted or toasted? If not, they are most likely raw. The raw nuts and seeds are generally lighter in color than the toasted/roasted nuts and seeds.

they just say "almonds" or "walnuts" - no raw, roasted, etc. I thought that unless the packaging specifically said "raw" then it probably isn't - especially with nuts since factories usually use high heat to get them out of the shell.

RP-I'll have to call. I'm curious to compare their prices to that of my normal local places. Too bad I don't have a Costco here, or Whole Foods or Trader's or any of the other stores people rave about! *whines*
