Hi,

Does anyone know if putting wheatgrass directly in the VM produces the same benefits as juicing??

Thanks

Well, other than the oxidation that will occur due to the blades churning oxygen into the mix, the nutrients themselves will essentially remain, in equivalent levels to juiced wheatgrass. However, people don't tend to use a blender for wheatgrass simply because although all greens contain significant levels of cellulose plant fibre, the cereal grasses are extremely high in this cellulose, which is rather indigestible at such levels (apparently, cows have 4 stomachs in order to cope with this, hence the name 'ruminants').

Therefore, if you do not own a juicer but wish to consume wheatgrass, you'd be wise to use a nut milk bag after blending, to remove all the cellulose fibre from the blended mix.

In the longrun, if you continue to consume wheatgrass juice regularly, you'd definitely be better off investing in a proper juicer for the task (e.g. an Oscar 900 VitalMax).

The method is not mine. It is from Aleesha, aka Recycling Goddess. Give credit where credit it due, as they say. Anyway, vitamix, strain, and enjoy your wheat grass!
