Hello I was wondering what essentials I would need as a complete beginner. I have been reading and I see so many things that I have no clue what they even are. Then I read that some people even buy boards to cover up their stoves since they don't use them. I am not sure if I will ever get to that point, but in the meantime, what do I need to start?

What kinds of equipment?
What kinds of foods?

Thanks for any advice.

Start with things you like. There is no reason to go to the poorhouse - keep it simple. Salads, smoothies, soups - are all wonderful and don't have to be complex. One of my hubster's faves is to get an avocado - sliced open with a spritz of lemon, cracked pepper, and tajin (a dried chile and lime salt - Walmart sells it in the produce section)

Do you have any recipes you wish to try? What appliances do you have in your home already? Eat whatever you want and as much as you want at first so long as it's raw. Don't go in for a lot of dehydrated foods - keep it juicy and drink water - your body will love you!

Thanks for the advice Amberstorm. See I am just the kind of person who will send herself to the poor house trying new things then I get burned out. But this lifestyle has been on my radar for the last 18 months and it is time I started to get started. KWIM?

Right now all I have is a cheapo target blender, but I used to have the Jack Lalanne power juicer and loved it till the parts broke and I couldn't replace them.:( I think I will just keep it simple like you suggested and start with what I know I'll use which is the juicer. I am fortunate that in the building that I live in there is an AWSOME organic produce stand with amazing deals! Mind if I ask for suggestions for juicers? I can't afford the vitamix so I have to get something else.

I'm not entirely clear whether you are asking for recommendations for a juicer or for a blender. Can you be more specific, please? I'm sure there are many of us here who'll be more than happy to help you once we are certain what type of appliance you wish to obtain.

I am really just looking for a juicer for right now. I guess I thought that the vitamix was a juicer/blender/ice cream maker/ everything else but the kitchen sink maker. I just can't afford that right now.

The first thing I would get is Alissa's book and DVD....then you'll really know what you need. She gives you lists....everything.
